In this video, you'll get to see a whole host of different things that we were able to do with and why we consider it to be, a jack of all trades suspension system.

    Considering all the hardware and software that comes with the kit. I'd say it is comparable to most higher end lift kits in price and those don't give you the benefit of being able to lower your ride height maintaining proper suspension geometry while towing or load.

    I thing my question is, would you trade any of your spring / shock or coil over suspensions for this system? I know you guys do a little more than "Jack of all trades" kind of wheeling, but I think the question still stands. Maybe it's a question of if you had a second Gladiator, would this be the suspension?

      Hmmm, I'd have to say, probably not. Cindy and I are go fast in the desert type of people and nothing short of coilovers and bypass shocks will do that well. That said, IF we had a second Gladiator, YES, we would totally do this.

      On a JL Wrangler, the default setting #2 will give you a 3.5" lift. That said, you can run this kit on setting #1 (2" lower) without any issues and I typically do for daily driving if only because it makes getting in and out easier and you get better fuel economy. The JRi shocks are custom tuned and made to the exact length needed for the air pistons. Using any other shock will VOID your warranty and could possibly cause damage to the air pistons.

      From what I understand, they should have a direct bolt on kit available very soon. Otherwise, if you're willing to figure out how to mount up the compressor and tank, you can just use what they sell now.

    Hi and thank you creating this series of videos about your experience. If I could snap my fingers and make a wish I'd ask for a phone call with you. I've been planning to install portal axles on my camping gladiator (with an AT Overland Atlas, Goose Gear storage, fridge) from Werewolf for Weld74 in 2024 to gain additional clearance to match the ride I have with my JK on a 4" TerraFlex adjustable suspension. I'd be curious to get your thoughts of portals vs the ACCUAIR system. Of course, each rider's use is slightly different. That's where I'd wish for a phone call :). Best to you and yours. Ofer

      @@wayalife Hi! Many thanks for taking the time to listen and engage in this discussion. My preference would be to learn your honest well reasoned judgement, especially if it challenges my thinking and direction. I went through three suspension configurations in my JK over a span of 4 years as I was learning to load balance and tune the Jeep for my liking and it’s gear setup. For the JT suspension build I’d be humbled to get experienced guidance as to possibly help me skip a couple of lessons and possibly arrive to great in fewer steps.
      Based on your experience building Jeeps, what ya thinking?

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  11 месяцев назад

      @ofermorag What I can tell you is that if I really thought spending upwards of $25k for a social media trendy upgrade, just to get more ground clearance down the middle of my Jeep, I would have already spent it on all my built up Jeeps. On something like a Bronco, I could see it but on a Jeep with solid axle, I personally think it's a big waste of money. Obviously, there's nothing new about portals and I've even had the pleasure of driving the Mighty FC that Jeep made years go with a set of them on it. In addition to crazy high cost, I found they provided way too much lift and without installing a lift and that made running coilovers (something I prefer) just stupid. I also found that the gear reduction prevents you from driving fast and that really bothered me. I'm sure there have been fixes to it since but back then, there were all kinds of speed sensor issues related with them too. And again, I really don't see the point. If you wheel your Jeep like you should - placing your tires ON obstacles instead of trying to drive over them and down the middle of your Jeep, there is no need for them.
      That said, the biggest benefit about ACCUAIR is that you can LOWER your Jeep down on to its bumps to make it easier to get in and out of and clear things like parking garages. It's that you can raise it way up to give you more approach, breakover and departure angles if needed. It's that you can lower your overall ride height at highway speeds for better MPG. It's that you can carry an extremely heavy load or tow a heavy trailer without any rear end sag and therefore, provide greater stability. It's that it automatically levels itself out with that load too. I could go on and on but really, for how you plan on using your Jeep, it would seem to me that this is much better and useful upgrade but then, that's just me.

      @@wayalife Thank you for this input and sharing your experience with portals over time and the Accuair system. I’m a bit over a year in planning, and saving, for the portals and interestingly enough as I was packing up the bed of the Gladiator for a trip this morning, while hopping in and out repeatedly, I did wonder what that would be like if the tailgate was lowered a couple of inches.
      The path that got me thinking about portals last year, and holding on for the time being, was the opportunity to keep the Gladiator’s stock suspension, which is currently riding well by being supported by a rear Helwig sway bar and some light weight airbags, and get some more ground clearance as I’d never bumped the bottom of a rig so much while off-roading as I do in this JT (and I reallllly don’t enjoy that feeling). My ‘13 JK on a 4” Terraflex lift, AntiRock sway bar, and 35” KM3s pretty much glides through any scenario I’m comfortable putting it through, especially at speed. I miss that experience when driving the JT and have been thinking that portals could get me that experience while keeping things simple and making use of the JT’s stock Rubicon suspension setup.
      The complexity of going with portals is like you stated, taking on a higher lift than I’d prefer, and not having a choice about the ratio of the regear. Further, I’ve been bothered a tiny bit by the need to go to 8 lug wheels. My preference is to stay on 35s, 37s if absolutely needed, in all terrain and keep the width to 11.5”. There is exactly (I’m 95% certain) one tire for me in both 35” and 37” sizes. I like the skinny tire look and the efficiency of the footprint it provides, and I get excited that I get to keep the use of the stock Jeep wheels if I went the Accuair way.
      The Accuair system would allow me to gain most of the setup benefits I was going after by putting portals to use, it would reduce some of those non-choices that would come with the portal systems I had narrowed down my choices to, and would allow me to start with my stock wheels and current 35s, and see if I want to transition to 37s (while still keeping the stock wheels, big bonus in my book!). The added complexity of the moving parts and the need/ability to remotely control the ride comfort does weigh on my mind, but (and a big but!) I am excited that those factors do bring major functionality such as riding lower on the miles in between trails and dropping to the bumps for loading and unloading (I bet a huge win for my family and friends as passengers, and me). Thanks again 10x over for taking the time to share your experiences via your videos and, even more, for extending your engagement in the subject matter by chatting today.

      One exciting thing I forgot to mention that is worth putting down is the ability to level out the rig using the Accuair system. For a Gladiator that’s been built for a pop-up camper I can imagine how helpful this feature will be each time we pull in to a campsite, especially for a longer wheelbase rig that’s used nearly exclusively for camping in remote, typically forested areas. That, in addition to a customizable ride height and smooth handling has me considering this setup.
