This thing costs $40 and consists of 2lb of beef, 2lb of noodles and a gallon of broth, making it an eye watering 12lb in total; which explains why it hasn't been done since early 2020!

Q: Don’t you worry about your health?

which is stupid, since they're getting very cheap promotion for their restaurant. and also to entice other customers to try the challenge - who will ALL fail.

@@jenninet6382 cold drinks actually make the stomach constrict so when you are doing alot of eating it can shrink your stomach a bit which adds more discomfort lol he had alot of liquid with the soup and with the amount of heat that pho had, I doubt the water would have done much but just add liquid.

I grew up on Tex-Mex and burgers, but when I finally branched out, pho was a mindblower. Every place I've had has been delicious and friendly just like this place.

THAT! Was IMPRESSIVE! A tip for pho, acid works wonders for changing that flavor, a nice ice cold lemon lime soda to chase the broth or a spritz of fresh lime in the bowl really works wonders to cut that salt and refresh your palate. Nothing better than that first drink of Ice water after a big bowl of hot soup!

@@KimoKimochii yes, an acidic flavor like Lemon or lime. It Tames the salt and adds a freshness flavor. If the broth is too sour, youve added too much

@@KimoKimochii for the same reason that too much salt on chicken will ruin the bird. The same reason that alcohol is brewed with other ingredients. For the same reason that you add a sauce to pasta.
To develope that flavor! To keep it interesting for the Palate! A flavor that changes as you eat, is no longer one experience, it is MANY!
That and because Mr. Beard had a hard time with the salt.

Not being critical, just informative - and I'm not Viet Namese, but I love their food: If you ever order a regular size bowl of Pho, it will still be large at most places. Pho is a soup that you customize with additions, like Thai basil, bean sprouts, chilis (usually in Houston it will be Jalapenos) cilantro, and srichia hot sauce. And yes, it arrives hot - really hot. A good pho bo (beef pho) probably got simmering last night. Lots of beef bones and shanks go into the simmer. It's an extremely rich broth.

They are actually cheesecake chimichangas, not egg rolls.
There's a fast food place called Del Taco, very popular in the Western States, that does caramel cheese cake rolls like that, they are so fricking good!

One thing I learned from watching Raina Huang, she takes the noodles out and puts them in a separate bowl so they can cool down and then finishes the broth at the end. Good idea!
It does help. I did do that once but it actually made the type of noodles I had even worse. For pho noodles it’s fine but for the noodles I had in a ramen challenge they were oily and disgusting. They expanded and were so gross jus after a few bites

When a restaurant employee gets that excited over a challenge, you know they chose the right profession.
My favorite Chinese restaurant would see me come in at lunch for years, featuring a GIANT bowl of chao ma mein, extra spicy. It felt like an eating contest, must have easily weighed over 5 lbs, but I got it all the time. Then gone 20 minutes later chattering in Mandorin when I'd order a couple of appetizers. I do miss being able to eat like that!

I kinda wish they would have giving you a quick tutorial on how usual customers season their Pho. My ex used to add a bunch of bean sprouts (change of texture), hoysen sauce (what you later were given), plus chili’s and it’s customary to add sugar to soften the saltiness. It was delicious the way she seasoned it..
I’m Mexican, so if you tried a Menudo challenge would expect to be given chopped onions, oregano, chili pepper flakes and lemons to season the dish. I’d be disappointed if you didn’t get the opportunity to enjoy/ appreciate the flavor of a dish, as opposed to just beating the challenge.
That being said you’re the man and appreciate you going outside your comfort zone. 🫡
Nah. I mean by all means eat it however you like. But the "authentic" way is to put the veg into the soup and let it soak for a while, but no hoisin or sriracha into the soup. You dip the noodles and meat into those in a separate bowl. You want to keep the soup clean and pure tasting. This is also how you tell the bad pho spots from the good ones. If you added a bunch of sauces into the soup, it all tastes the same.
That's a BEAST right there. I ate a XL Bowl and I was dying.

When I saw that bowl brought out I would have bet any amount of money that no human could possibly eat all that in one sitting. But, this guy does the impossible.

As a Houston native, it's great seeing you indulge in one of our favorite foods. The Vietnamese community (along with their food) have brought so much to our city. But being in a jumper in April/May and eating 10lbs of steaming hot pho is not a good idea. Makes for great content though, so keep it up

@@Gblonkers None. The community is thriving here and the people are wonderful and warm. They freely share their culture with us and are some of the most wholesome and wonderful people I've met. Shrewd in business, big-family, wonderful people. Tbf, most are from the south that are here, I believe.
