Loved this game, found the best way to earn scrap and eliminate the grind was to grapple scrap chest in storms and pin them by rocks so you could get multiple per storm.
Never understood why it got middling or even bad reviews, it was a complete & well-made (if not massively polished) open world game w visceral melee combat, fun vehicular combat, it was pretty addictive to explore, salvage & build a better hot rod, but not TOO long. A sequel that builds off of it could have been really good.
I totally agree, car combat is usually one of my least favorite aspects of games that feature it, GTA very much comes to mind. The 'strategic slowdown' while aiming and the aim assist in general feels really good, you totally have to do your part and the system and the options keep you focused on strategy and fighting the enemy instead of fighting your controller/KBM
Agreed. And even then normal hand-to-hand combat is super satisfying, despite it just being another Arkham copy. They did such a good job at making the combat feel impactful. One of the most satisfying looking and feeling melee combats I've seen, ever.
It didn't invent the wheel in a new way, but I had a really good time playing it. I even platinumed it. I loved the design and graphics. It got repttive and I wish they would have been more creative with the quest and mission deisgns (maybe surprise us with some out-of-the-box DLC along the way). On a side note: To witness an electrical storm approaching from far away then slowly engulfing you and everything around you was an impresive sight to behold and quite the experience.

Fun fact the studio was gonna cast someone who didn't have an Australian accent to voice max but there was backlash and so they decided to hire an actor with an Australian accent.
Fun Fact 2: That was a bad decision cause the Voice Actor actually sucks. Its a decent Game and the Story realy goes all in at the end, but the Voice Actor didnt do the Lines credit. The Dialogues perse are great but he delivers badly
I still come back to this game from time to time and there's something so oddly beautiful about it's dystopian scenery. The engine roar every time you start the engine is always awesome. The combat is pretty simple but the sound design combined with the visceral animations from Max always makes for some "oooh fuck that was dope" moments. Them haymakers just hit the spot. I really wish there was a sequel.
It seriously does need a sequel! Maybe they'll do another one when Furiosa's movie comes out in 2024. Since it's not considered "canon" even to the series' already loose canon, the ending is ambiguous enough to allow anything to happen. It would seem cheap to have Max lose everything AGAIN, but... that's what his character is all about, right? He keeps losing everything. With this one based on Gastown, it would be cool to see the Bullet Farm!

This game was legitimately so good. It gave me Auto Assault vibes to a point where I would just listen to the Auto Assault soundtrack while playing it.
I started playing this game just to earn a platinum but had more fun than I was expecting to have. I never got the platinum cuz the online severs shut down for mad max and now some achievements can’t be earned, regardless it was way too fun to be sad over that
Yes, there is only 1 secondary "mission" not possible for platinum. The one that required to receive i think 2000 scraps throught servers. Its 1 mission that doesnt let you complete 1 achievement. I think 48 possible out of 49. Not a really big problem. Also there is a bug: if your device gets shut down while saving while completing an outpost, it could get glitched and give it incomplete. It happened to me, but I restarted the story and I succeed
This game is one of my favourites, everyone hated the story but the story was honestly good, a proper mad max style story. Overall its just a really fun game. They need to make a sequel.
The amount of effort that went into the skybox alone is commendable. Seriously though they actually went into a desert just so they could recreate it as best as possible. There’s also getting to see oncoming dust storms in the horizon contrasted to the clear skies above that is just an immaculate vibe.
I still play the game to this day, the graphics hold up very well and the combat is ridiculusly satisfying. I like going for different car builds on each playthrough, keeps it fresh even with limited options.
I love when games makes your transportation as singular as possible, makes you care about it a lot more. In GTA you buy your car, but if it explode you just rob another one. In Assassin's Creed you loose your horse, just steal another. In Shadow of the Colossus, without Agro what you're gonna do? Same thing as your bike in Days Gone and the Batmobile in Arkham Knight(for better or for worse). Max's car is an extension of him. Unlike Batman that can glide faster than the car or Talion runnin at F1 car speed, Max is just a guy, and a cripple one that can't run that fast. That connection with the vehicle both for the character and gameplay was great
WB took that Arkham engine and applied it to yet another game wherein it made PERFECT sense. So many heroes/protagonists apply to the freeflow combat model. Spiderman, Daredevil, Max, and so much more.
The best part about this game are the convoys. I would stand on cliffs by the convoy's route scoping it out and use my binocs to observe it, and when it comes close i jump right off the cliff that is like 100 ft high and proceed to destroy the convoy. One of the best games I ever played.
I bought this game on GOG for $5 last year, a few hours later I was having a ball playing it and then it occurred to me that I hadn't ever heard of this game existing until I saw it at fire sale price. You should try Rage 2 if you haven't. The driving/ open world was done by these devs and the off-vehicle FPS combat was done by the legends at ID Soft works.
I liked this game, but i feel they could've made the cars more customizable or maybe have more vehicle options like bikes and trucks. But the combat felt pretty good

I play it trough once per year since its release. It looked surprisingly good back in 2015 and it is aging really well. It has a well designed open world. I loved to explore it. Trying to slingshot war boys with the harpoon was tons of fun. Shoot the victim with the harpoon, don't release, than drag him with high speed and before the harpoon auto-releases, take a sudden turn and press release... and watch him fly! :D
All this game needed was some Arkham-style melee+driving challenges and it would have been a lot more replayable. I didn’t really click with the racing challenges and always wished I could replay camps and convoys.
This game is the definition of a underrated game. Glad its finally getting the love it actually deserves. It's probably one of the most stunning looking games last gen.
This game was incredibly underrated and it is outstanding that it runs quite decently and somehow never received a single update. Avalanche kinda just dropped it and moved on. But damn...this game has excellent art, great gameplay and a great sense of the Mad Max universe. One of my favorites of the last generation.
I love this game. A criminally underrated gem for sure. Folks are missing out by ignoring it. I jumped all over the chance to snap it up for like, $6 on the Xbox store last year
I love it how this game just says to you "You are in the wasteland and you are probably not gonna see anything", It's like a world with no world. And plus, who could forget chumbucket?
I’ve watched dozens of playthroughs, Easter egg videos, how to build the best car and I never got it. I’m not exactly sure why, but it’s definitely on my list to play some day.

I played mad max and finished the game this week. It's one of the best and most fun game I played. I can't believe I took this long to give mad max a try.
the only thing i didnt like from this game was the ending, and that's only because i got attached to the characters, which judging by many of the mad max movies, i probably should have thought twice before getting attached
I bought this game a few years ago on a sale, it was like 5 dollars on the ps store, I just said "okay let's give it a try" little did I know I was going to be stuck playing it for weeks Even if the meele combat felt a bit too easy, the rest of the game is amazing, the atmosphere of the world, and how at the beginning you see it as a desert until you realise that desert was the ocean once, that feeling of loneliness and survival the games gives you, is the only game that the environment gave me a feel that everything is lost, the rust, the metal, the sand, it gives a feeling hard to explain, the car combat that is the highlight of the game, how the vehicle handles a bit clunky but that's what gives it the soul of it, learning how to turn, when to ram the other cars, what to use to balance speed, armor, acceleration, how to use the terrain at your advantage in certain situations, receiving damage actually feels like you are about to get stranded in the middle of complete nowhere, the story even if is not the best, is engaging and constantly makes you wonder what the hell happened before and what will happen next, at least for me it was like that This game definitely deserved more attention, now I feel I shouldn't have paid 5 dollars, but the full 60 dollars
The vehicular combat, and melee fighting was amazing, as well as the expansive map and convoys. For me, the glaring issue was the repetitiveness of the districts was almost too much to overcome.
If you like this, Avalanche made Rage 2 directly following this and brought over a lot of the mechanics from this game, but switched out the melee combat with ID Software's doom FPS--it is a slow start, but once you start getting powers it is an absolute romp.
For a game thats map is literally a baron wasteland it was actually quite fun and interesting exploring it. They did a great job on practically everything in this game
This game was AMAZING. Simple yet oh so enjoyable hand to hand combat. Driving the car and the fights you would get into were awesome. Anything you were doing became 10 times more intense when that storm hit.
When this video was uploaded, I didn't catch it, because I was too busy playing this game while listening to Caestus Metalican from the WH40k Mechanicus Soundtrack and pretending to buy into my own legend.
Wow! 😁 I've been noticing your videos pop up, love the work absolutely but I love that you and I are on the same wavelength of what games we've been doing lately. I'm also a variety gaming channel, but much shorter and I love that we keep choosing the same older games lately! Makes me laugh a lot just like your videos!
Didn't fully complete this game, but I played through the story and a little more. Even though the combat is repetitive the sound design make it addictive. it really feels like you are punching someone to death (as someone that's never been in a fight, I imagine irl it'd be different). The customisation of your car was enough to keep me enticed to keep driving too along with the harpoon being tons of fun. Haven't played the game for years but I still remember the experience.

I saw this game when I was a kid and I was amazed but I was also surprised that little to no one are talking about it back in the day
This game with fpsboost on Series X is absolutely AWESOME
I love that every time I watch one of your videos, you happen to release a sequel the next day.
Oh you're playing this again? Thanks for giving it some more attention, it's one of, if not my all-time favorite game.
This video is funnier than I expected ahaha
When this video was uploaded, I didn't catch it, because I was too busy playing this game while listening to Caestus Metalican from the WH40k Mechanicus Soundtrack and pretending to buy into my own legend.
I love seeing you continuing the games you started
I'm replaying this right now and it is so good. The suplex finisher is so brutal and satisfying.
Can you believe I'm still playing this game in 1024x720 with a 40fps but still enjoying this game
This game is 100% a hidden gem. That term gets thrown around a lot, but it fits in this case.
Wow! 😁 I've been noticing your videos pop up, love the work absolutely but I love that you and I are on the same wavelength of what games we've been doing lately. I'm also a variety gaming channel, but much shorter and I love that we keep choosing the same older games lately! Makes me laugh a lot just like your videos!
ngl the chest in storms was like a wild ride especially if u try to catch multiple
hearing you have absolute fun in fighting scenes was extremely wholesome and funny Lmao🤣
Played through this beauty 3 times, once on youtube. SO good!
I loved this game too. My only complaint was i wish you had access to the interceptor in the very beginning as your car.
4:32 Nah with that hunchback? It's definitely Melina.
Imagine a guy bursts through your gate with his car welling "I'd like to speak to the manager"
the evolution from "don't you dare eat that" to "could you imagine how good that would taste, chat?" beautiful
2015 was 7 years ago?
i feel like puking
I love your videos man.
I watch them every time I need to smile.
Your enthusiasm is infectious.
Rock on, brother.
I know it won’t happen since avalanche studio (guys who helped make rage 2) have moved on, but I would love a sequel or another mad max game like this
"WITNESS MEEEE!!!" 😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
Love it! This is one of my favorite games of all time!
masterpiece of a game, actually play it 3 months ago
One of the few games where I 100% finish everything in it, hidden stuff, side missions, upgrades before finishing the story, it was awesome 👌
Pure gem this game is...I've played it 3 times and still loving it
