- In this video we take a look at some awesome guitar neck building tools. We have some professional quality radius sanding blocks, including a compound radius block that can be fit to a power sander to get the job done quickly. We also have a beautiful jig that will ensure that you are sanding straight and not creating an off centre radius. Check out the link to these great tools below. We will have a demo and probably a comparison coming out in the near future.

Wow, this is going to "up" your already phenomenal game.
Seeing how the compound radius block actually works will be very interesting.
Don't leave us hanging!
I’ll try not to haha.
Steve is a Genius with his designs for guitar building tooling. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers Fred
The online sander is actually called a air file for auto body work .Their used on quater panel sanding after bondo is applied.
Interesting. It’s called a straight line sander on amazon.
Thanks for the video and the shoutout Brad, much appreciated, you’re awesome!. In my experience, anything from Steve @ MGW is a game changer. You can also put a couple 1/4-20 threaded inserts in the 12” radius block and power radius with it. Any radius block can be bought as a Power Block or standard. I am currently using the 14” radius Power Block to clean up inlay work and bring the radius to perfection when it comes off the HAAS. The big 24” long block is designed to be cut to whatever length and use the cut-offs for spot work, etc. I use the long one for clamping cauls also. Can’t beat Maximum Guitar Works
Thanks Michael
I saw Steve demo this system over at wonder bread guitars. It's no joke.
Looks pretty awesome to me.
Thanks for the video, you are right Matt (from TTG) and Steve (from MGW) have done a couple videos on these tools,
I need to take a look at those.
This is how I've been radiusing my boards too, however I use a long aluminum beam, and by hand. Having the supports on the side is key to getting great results as it negates any lateral movement. I only do straight/single radius boards, so I use the same set up to level my frets as well. I'd be very interested to see you try using this set up to level compound frets (minus the inline sander part of course)
Steve has some of the best content I've ever seen on yt for building guitars no offense to you or any other you tubers
None taken. I’m always looking for good content.
Pretty cool. Been thinking about ordering some of his templates. The neck and fretboard stuff later, after I watch you do it first!
Ya I hope to post a demo soon.
Excellent. Can't wait to see you use these in a video. Eh. Go Canadia.
Cool stuff man!
Thanks Blake!
EDIT:
Just returned from Maximum Guitar Works. LoL I am ordering some knobs and looking at the jigs. I take it all back. He has tried to keep costs down using Rock Maple. There is some great stuff there. Honestly priced. 👍
Haha well that’s good to know.
Awesome, I've got some of those and they are so great. Steve at MGW is a great guy. Mike from ASA is also a great guy. Great video Brad, I'm sure Steve appreciates it
Cheers. I’m impressed with Steve’s work!
@@BradAngove yeah, me too. I've also got a complete Strat template set from MGW and man it is so killer. The guy is a real next level thinker .
Looks like some good, wood fun there Brad.....
Hahaha
Looks like quality tools!
Indeed. They feel like quality as well.
Great stuff. Have you done a video demonstrating this jig?
Not yet, but I will be soon.
I'm very envious Brad they look awesome pity I'm in Europe.
MGW Ships to Europe everyday.
There ya go Mark. Looks like they’re still an option if you want.
Hi Brad. A question for you if i may
Is it possible to do a straight neck swap from a 22 fret to a 21 fret? Or is the neck pocket a different size?
Neck pocket shouldn’t be different but you need to check the scale length is the same. Usually a 22 just has a bit more fretboard overhang at the end of the neck if I’m not mistaken.
@@BradAngove Thank you again for the advise Brad, that’s a massive help..👍
It looks like you've been making quite an investment lately in a lot of new tools. Good for you! Ya can never have too many 😃
Too true!
@@BradAngove did you actually pay for the tools in the video or did MGW hook you up for a promo?
MGW hooked me up with these via ASA. There wasn’t any promo discussion per se, but everyone who watches my channel knows I’m happy to pass along information about quality stuff to my viewers (I get asked for recommendations a lot).
Next neck won't have a truss rod just graphite stiffeners.
These tools look good for someone like you who knows what they are doing. Some of us shouldn't stick our necks out with equipment like this.
What equipment would you use to do this job that you think would be better for a beginner?
@@BradAngove I think the tools are fine. I just think building a neck is too much. I'd buy the neck. Other beginners may be willing to put the time in.
Oh I see. So it’s the task rather than the equipment. Yeah, I agree with you on that.
No R.
Bad Angove? 😜
Well made tools are great.
I bought mine from a maker from Halifax.
Faster more accurate.
Now make a router neck profiler.
My favorite neck has a Jazz bass profile and a 12" radius 24 to 25" scale. 24 SS frets, ebony board is my prefered wood option.
A router neck profiler would be fun for sure.
Check out the one on Home Built Workshop. It's what I'm going to upgrade to.
@@BradAngove Steve at MGW probably has the best video out there for that kind of jig. It was his first youtube video actually
Hopefully that wooden radius block doesn't twist and wear out on you anytime soon.
Yes, just like every other tool I have, I hope it doesn’t wear out quickly. I find it very unlikely that it would though. It’s a sanding block after all.
40mm hard rock maple generally is straight for life.
Lovely as it all is, I just can’t trust wood for precision. All wood changes with humidity, unless utterly sealed from the environment, are they? Aluminium is for me far better as it will only change with temperature- something we can control. Mind you, if you gave them to me - I would guard them jealously! I’m not THAT stupid!👍
They are oiled, not sealed per se. I trust them just fine though. The fretboards are wood, and much thinner. They are considerably more likely to change than these I think.
No R? Bad Angove. Lol
I am totally impressed. You got the full meal deal and they hooked you up right. Nice.
Dude, party the fuck up.
Ah yes. Made in the USA. Comes with Coors Lite for wet sanding. I don’t know why all necks are not compound radius. Wouldn’t you think all the manufacturers would do it? Slackers😬
Only a few do. I guess not everyone likes them, but I think they make a lot of sense.
I can't believe you said "it's certainly a big package" without immediately following up with "that's what she said". I'm disappointed, Brad.
…now that’s what she said.
