Of all the demos of this guitar, the overdriven sounds truly represent how this guitar actually sounds when you play it in person. It’s got that growl.
I have this model in this colour. £615 ($800) and that includes tax. I got it earlier this week and I'm hugely impressed. I own Fender USA Deluxe & Ultra, a USA PRS Custom 22, Mike Lipe USA custom made guitars, a few PRS SE models, Fender Japan, G&L USA Comanche and two Gibson USA Les Paul models, 16 guitars at the moment and nearly all cost a lot more. But this Revstar Standard is a great guitar and I'll most likely be using it a lot. It really holds its own against guitars 2 or 3 times the price. It's 8lbs, 2oz, but it's perfectly balanced so it just sits right on a strap or your lap. The satin neck is amazingly comfortable, the rosewood fretboard is beautifully smooth, the stainless steel frets are finished very nicely. The pickups have superb clarity and definition. There's absolutely nothing to dislike about this guitar. I'm comparing apples and oranges here but if you look at what you get for £615 (mahogany body, set mahogany neck, stainless steel frets) against a PRS SE Silver Sky which is £895 and has a cheaper poplar body, bolt on maple neck and nickel fret wire you can really see just what a good value guitar the Yamaha is. I don't know if you can get a better guitar for less than £1000 except for maybe a Shijie which are also incredibly great value. You can't go wrong with one of these. Thank you Yamaha, great job.
@@johnsmith-ug5tp Indeed, two more features, I could also add that the body is chambered. I thought the PRS SE Silver Sky was way overpriced when it was released for what it is and frankly this Yamaha just reaffirms that.
I have the p90 standard and it has very quickly become my favorite guitar to play. For reference I also have two American Fenders ( Tele and Strat) and a Gibson LP custom.
I have PRS private stock guitars.. ESP USA.. Kiesel.. Fender Custom Shop.. G&L.. Gibson USA.. Suhr.. and I CANT STOP PLAYING THE RSS20. It's pretty perfect after redoing the ridiculously useless wiring scheme it comes with.
I always enjoy your videos! Nice job showing us how these guitars sound. There’s no doubt that Yamaha is leading the way on value for your dollar with all the premium parts and overall finish.
Yes I'm enjoying this video again. I bought this same model in black and I wish it was 7 pounds. These are actually 3.7kg which is 8.1 lbs. Still a bit on the heavy side but it's an amazing guitar!
I really like mine a lot. It makes me want to ply fingerstyle more often. I haven’t even brought it in for a setup. $600 rss20 used in brand new condition. Amazing quality.
Nice sound of the Yamaha Revstar Standard RSS20🎸 Imagine hooking that guitar in the Orange Crush amplifier & Kemper Profiler Stage Floorboard multi-effects. Isn't it a perfect combination❓😀
I played this yesterday. I have like 10 guitars. It was unbelivable especially their pickups. The Indonesian guitar played better than the Japanese. On the rare occassion I almost bought it… it’s still running in my head though I tried the SG1820 which was way too heavy and didn’t play as well as this one. For the specs, neck binding, rosewood fretboard and pickups the guitar is awesome and so undervalued.
I've owned a number of Yamahas, including an intro level Revstar a couple years ago. My issue with that ax was that it was way too heavy, had no countours which made it feel blocky, and the neck was a little too thick. The higher end models are a lot better and I will by trying one out. Quality axes. I played an SG 200 for years which was the closest thing they made to an SG knockoff. Great guitar. I didn't even change the stock pups, which is something I do to almost every ax. I changed the stock pups in the Revstar. I tried a number of DiMarzios and Duncans before settling on a Duncan Custom 5/Jazz set which sounded great. It was just not a comfortable guitar.
Hi. Great review. Great guitar. Its ergonomics seem to suit many people. With different height and build. It sounds great too. Lots of different sounds. The focus button really works and brings original colors to the sound. The shape of the guitar clearly has the features of Les Paul - Double Cut, Rickenbacker, PRS Castom. But in my opinion, this is not just a tribute to the legends of the past, but a deeply artistic rethinking of design and giving it modern lines and colors. A great success for Yamaha and a gift to the musicians of the planet. Unfortunately, it is very much necessary to abstract in order to discern the contours of the once popular motorcycle. The company has a great opportunity to implement this idea more clearly in the form of a single kata. Something in the Art Nouveau style of Les Paul or Telecaster. Good luck.
I absolutely LOVE the Revstar. I have the RSS02T and it is phenomenal. It is the best guitar i own. I definitely want to check more Yamaha instruments out. Might try the Pacifica Standard Plus next.
This is going to be my next guitar purchase I've been eyeing it for a bit now. Looks great, its versatile, quality build at an affordable price. Fine work as always showcasing this one!
This is a great demo. I have to say tho I think their dry switch on humbuckers was more useful than this new focus boost. All the demos I hear with the humbuckers sound muddier. The P90 version seems to be a better match for this type of switch.
Under 7lbs? They must have changed them since you got yours. I've not even seen one that weighs 7.5lbs. Lightest I've come across is 7lbs 13oz. Thanks for the review.
I've had my rss20 now for about 8 months.... Love it strats are giving me the Evil eye 😂 imagine a les Paul where over 5 on the neck pu tone is kinda too bright 😂
I just bought one. On any of my other guitars it feels like I'm fighting against the guitar to get the sounds I want. Not so with the Revstar. It's almost to easy to play. I love this guitar.
Hello, thank you for a full review. I was wandering something tough, it's not the only guitar that has carbon fiber rods in the neck, so my question would be whats the use of thruss rod ? In a sense I thnik carbon fiber is not flexible so how are they supposed to follow if you'd want to move the neck ?
I think these new Revstar's have really moved the game on for Yamaha, very thoughtful improvements. They do seem brilliant. Great to hear it being played be a proper musician as well. Just on the 'graphite rods''... seeing this more and more on guitars these days. Is there a link with that and the difficulty these days in getting good quality wood for guitars? It's just a thought, maybe a way of using cheaper wood thats perhaps not as stable - forcing manufacturers to included things like neck reinforcement? This is just me wondering btw I have no idea.
Very cool! On the 'In the Mix' portion, what kind of amplification and reverb do you use? The tone is full with a bite; the ambience is just right. Nicely done.
Hello @demosinthedark I'm new to your channel. Am I missing out if I buy a mint used RS820CR? I'm trailing one now and it's a beauty with great action. This would be my second guitar (Squire CV Tele) early in my learning guitar. Cheers
oh I love that 820! mine is 620, which is just about similar to a 820. be wary of the satin finish though, it will be rather hard to maintain it looking mint
I've been looking for an guitar 'off-the-shelf' guitar for pop-punk/easycore and this might be the ticket maybe? My other guitars are heavily modified and I feel like I need something that's gonna fit the bill out of the box. That said, this boost is weird. It sounds like a low-mid boost, which I do not like at all. It sounds way more full and without the boost.
Agree. Love everything about these, looks and sound etc...however the focus sounds like the direct opposite of a boost. Perhaps it's different under your hands and helps cut through in a live situation. Either way I still plan on getting one.
I got this last week, it's really an excellent guitar, its sounds were driving me crazy, but I had to return it because the neck felt like a real baseball bat; it was too big and made it very difficult for me to play certain arpeggios or change chords quickly. I regret not spending more time trying to adapt, but my thumb really hurt. I have somewhat small hands. Has anyone else felt the same way? I used a translator to write this comment.
I've got the Vintage White RSE20 Element and it's killer. What a resonant and ergonomic design, playing is just a joy with these new Revstar versions (the older ones were great too but much heavier and had neck dive).
No guitar is ever too cheap ... Yamaha is playing honestly with its customers (and it should be applaud) delivering guitars following high end quality standards at the right price ... a piece of wood, some pieces of metal and plastic, with the oldest electronic that exist on earth (almost over a century) should in no case cost over a thousand euros/dollars ... Custom Shops' or Luthiers' made, ok, all the others ... nope.
I don't know, I really love the revstar and want one, love the concept, the design, quality, everything, but: Every time I pick one up in the store I donT feel, that it sounds appealing, neither unplugged nor plugged. It is not warm like mahogany should, it is clangy, lacks sustain, etc. Damn!
i have a friend who is trying to force himself to like a tesla right now, hahaha. between the two i have here, i feel like the earlier version had a bit more sustain, BUT i certainly don't find the newer version to be a lacking by any means. we should also note i opted for the gibson style bridge, which helps a great deal for sustain. regardless, it ain't the guit for you.
@@DemosInTheDark You mean a Teuffel tesla? Well, I'm a modern player, not a Gibson or else disciple, but liking that thing would be the hardest challenge of my life. Yet, I'm too long into guitars to badger myself with gear I hope I that I'd like or I "think it's not too bad". The stuff kicks me and I'm drooling for it or I'm gone.
Hey Buddy are you sure you don't have the RSS02T because the RSS20 doesn't have the stainless steel frets from what I've heard and you have 5 way switch the RSS20 has 3 way switch.?

Of all the demos of this guitar, the overdriven sounds truly represent how this guitar actually sounds when you play it in person. It’s got that growl.
The Revstars have that Les Paul type sound but with an added new era growl.
I’ve watch several of these, this is the demo that sold me!
agree
