    I was a Yamaha employee and received their employee discount when buying a product they make. It's normally 40% below retail, but occasionally when you place your order the guy in charge will call you and make a deal on something else they want to get rid of. I had ordered a 2022 RevStar and he called me up and said he had a brand new 2020 that retailed for $1999 and he would sell it to me for $899. It was in Sunset Burst and the one I had ordered was black/cream. 60% off? Hell yes. It was slated for some guitar show that was cancelled because of the pandemic and they needed to clear it off the books. The fact that I could buy with that kind of discount is what turned my on to the RevStar. I would have never given them a glance had they not been such a good deal. But now that I own it? It is easily as good as any Gibson, Fender, Ibanez, Gretsch, PRS, or other big name brand. And the Pacifica's are such a great value compared to a Strat. These guys are no joke. They are top shelf

      I dont know if you've purchased one since commenting this but something I'd add to the discussion is filtertrons are harder to replace if you decide you don't mesh with them they might require routing or buying boutique pickups in that shape. With a p90 guitar there are pickups ready available in the p90s dimensions that are humbuckers, jazzmaster pickups, filtertrons whatever you like really. I was having the same thoughts before I bought mine and can say the aftermarket parts for p90 routes is unbeatable!

    Im a gear snob and totally support made in USA whenever possible. But im fighting an uphill battle alone and I cant win, and if you cant beat em, join em right? Right now, grab a Rev standard and a Katana 100 and you’re good. Pretty much everything you need under 1500 for almost any gig. Thats the perfect beater rig for the bar. Keep the good heavy gear at home. Safe and sound. Im considering one myself. Even though made in Indonesia, of course made in Japan would be my first choice, but for Indonesia, its Yamaha, they wont allow junk with their name on it. As far a tone I can tell but the difference is very slight. If Yamaha could put out something that competes with the Katana, they have a winning combo.

    I am an electric guitar beginner - own Revstar 420 and a Blackstar 1W amp - I must say it drives me close to crazy to see `reviews` of guys playing on guitars from my price range but on pedals for 300 bucks and amps for 1600. then later they mention something abot the `cab` and a freaking mike ----- I am sorry - I just find so pointless and so confusing for beginner players how to achive the tone . ALso whts the point ? how is the guitar affecting such amazing chain ? impossible to tell - probably not much ..... on the other hand I understand there such a variety of all the equipment out there ..... sorry just my 2 cents .

    • @coreycongilio
      @coreycongilio  Год назад +3

      In the digital video world, the chain actually doesn’t matter all that much. I know that sounds crazy but, I would be getting pretty much the same sound regardless of amp, pedal etc. This is the case because of how it’s distilled into the digital world. You’re really hearing the guitar in it’s truest form…that’s what I shoot for in a demo. I use the gear I have because I’ve accumulated it over years. Also, my channel hits a wide range of viewers in all ability levels and budgets so, I try to cover a lot of ground. My point is that, you’re not being tricked by the signal chain. The principles of tone apply to even the most basic of prices of equipment or the most refined higher end gear. Start with your amp on a clean sound. EQs set flat and go from there. That’s what I’m doing whether it’s a $300 amp or $5000 amp. Hope that makes sense!

    Tried a Revstar and the P90's in it while sounding good, were pretty hot and not very dynamic or touch responsive for a P90... maybe due to the Alnico 5... in that yes the volume of the not will change depending on how you play it, but the character and attack don't change much depending on how you hit the note like on the more vintage p90's. So for a modern p90 sound it's great, but for a more articulate touch responsive vintage blues tone, I would replace the pickups.

    Great tones sir! I grabbed one of the humbucker version 3 years ago (1st gen?) to scratch my Les Paul itch and it more than filled that duty. I love it but typically play single coils (or bass) most of the time… I need to play it more. When the p90s become available I’ll think about getting one.

    Are those P90s stock? The guitar sounds a bit great, if maybe a bit "sterile" in the top end but that might be just down to the rest of the gear.

    I have a Gibson Custom shop and two American Fenders and I can’t put the Revstar down. I have the Standard P90 in hot merlot. Phenomenal guitar especially considering the price.

    To add my two penn'orth, for me its the best guitar I own, forget the price tag. I have the weird (but gorgeous) semi-matt greenish looking 502. Build, neck, feel , all spot on straight out of the box. Pickups amazingly crystal clear, precise P90 sound, and a frikkin' amazing tone control that totally yet progressively (controllably) changes the sound. It just seems to be crispy everywhere, nothing wasted, nothing unnecessary. And, to my eye at least, it is sinful in its beauty. I'm disgracefully old school, from an era when we played whatever we could afford, and this drops somehow into that box in the sense that it requires no pedals, no great setup, no nothing for it to get out there and play and sound smooth/pretty or down and dirty. I love it to death. Context, I have a variety in the 'collection' that includes Strats, Teles, Les Pauls, a Rickenbacker, a home-built beauty with a '50's Gibson P90, right up to a '64 cherry red 335. If I could only keep one, I'd keep the 335 for the money, I'd keep the Revstar for the sound and the fun. Do I love it? You betcha.

    I bought a black revstar standard with p90, arrived yesterday. Just wow. Such a fine instrument. The built quality is some of the best I've seen (definitely on the same level as PRS for example), the setup is perfect. The intonation is spot on. It sounds very sweet and has lots of versatility. And what I didn't expect the guitar feels so good in the hand and when playing. You can really feel that they thought about every inch of the guitar and tried to make it as good as it can be. And then it's also so (relatively) cheap!? I mean if you are looking for a new guitar and want something else than the regular Fender/Gibson stuff Yamaha Revstar is the way to go.

      I just got mine this week - same black P-90 standard as yours. Love the guitar! You're exactly right; the build quality is better than Gibsons & Fenders I have and equal to PRS. Incredible value!

    I've had the Revstar Pro with Humbuckers since shortly after they came out. It is amazing. I recently ordered the Standard with P90's and should pick it up from FedEx tomorrow. I'm looking forward to this guitar and my plan is to leave it on the stand, plugged into the amp & pedals, ready to play.

    Hey Corey I bought this guitar based on your review. Ordered it back in August and it just came today. P90s in sunburst and I must say it is such a beautiful instrument and LOVING it so far. I could nitpick one or two minor things but overall its the best guitar I've owned. Thank you!

      @@FrankRemley The tone knob is a little finicky and at first I didn’t like the chunkyness of the neck but I’ve gotten used to that now. I would highly recommend it.

    But the volume knob is too close to the bridge! If not for that, i’d have one.
