I have an RS502T Revstar with P90,s and I recently bought a Tone King Gremlin Head to partner with my Dovetailed Pine 2 x 12 Cabinet with JBL G125-8 200w 102db speakers. The sounds that are coming out of this gear are unworldly.
That '61 Casino is one of the most beautiful, best-sounding instruments you can look at and listen to on YT, always wonderfully played by Mr. Congilio! I warmly recommend going over to his "Casino" video because he demonstrates that you don't need to break the bank to get that magic… And the last solo on the SG is killer: perfect arc, perfect thematic cohesion and hooks, … I'm off to transcribe it! Thx Corey, another wonderful video!
Fralin p90’s sound really good. But that Epiphone Casino with the dog ears and semi hollow body and etc. was pure musical bliss. Fat, grit, warm, bright in the right places. Exceptional.
I've had this cheap 70's Japanese Les Paul copy for years with a visually stunning look, but not much happening in the tone department; until I installed Seymour Duncan Phat Cats, which are their PAF-sized P90s. It's now my favorite guitar! P90s are so versatile, and they really rock!
@@haze_z I think it was a Silvertone judging by the faintly visible letter S under the paint. I was definitely chambered; very light. Classic Les Paul shape including the headstock.
A great player is necessary to display what a guitar is capable of.Just the opposite than many youtube channels from mediocre players and human being only capable of disassembling guitars for no reason and reccomending tons of gear to hide what is evident: a guitar is a musical instrument build to excell in the hands of a competent musicians.Gear is not the shortcut but knowledge and years of thinking and practise.
Corey glad you got your Casino when you did, the prices have gone through the roof lately on everything vintage. I love the SG. I believe in one pickup theory too about the way the strings ring out. Great video. Thanks. 👍😎✌️
I bought a Music Man Albert Lee (basically a strat) with 3 P-90s on clearance a few years back, not knowing if I'd bond with it. I've always liked humbuckers, and strats always sounded a little thin in my hands. Albert is now one of my favorites. The P-90s add some nice frequencies, but there's still that quacky thing happening in the 2 & 4 positions. Totally cool! Turns out I was just playing the wrong kinds of strats!
I really learned something from this demonstration Corey thanks a lot. I like the old school rockabilly and R&B sound you get from P90s. Now I just need to decide which guitar to buy. 🎸
Corey, came down with Covid On vacation. Long drive, fly, long drive to get to my remote home. I was greatly relieved to see your P 90 video, I held my phone to my chest and let the healing begin.
Cory is a great player and makes them all sound great. I'd like to get a Revstar because it is affordable and sounds great. Never had a guitar with p90s.
I actually have a set of Lindy Fralin hum-cancelling P90s on their way - they touched down in Australia this morning and should turn up at my door some time this week. They're actually going into a Strat. I like Strats and wanted some P90s, so I'll have the best of both worlds.
Best P90 demo on You-tube. The way you play is bringing out the best in that design. I found I play different with P90s (les paul special), I want to dig those dynamics, coolest viddy, thanks.
I recently bought a Squire Esquire. Very impressed with the variety of sounds you can get from a single pickup. Could be Leo Fender got it right from the start. Everyone since reinventing the wheel and just adding bells and whistles! Thanks for posting
I'm about to like P90s more and more. That Revstar is cool. I've also noticed the Japanese brands Ibanez and Yamaha very often have SS frets now. Should be standard on good brands like PRS.
I was pleasantly surprised to hear I much preferred your chambered guitars to that PRS gold top. There’s a “piercing” element to those chambered guitars I like.
Another great video from you. The epiphone in particular sounded so good!. I love the sound of a p90 in the neck. Somewhere between single coil and humbucker. You really showed the tones off well. Top marks for the mothers tshirt!
A friend loaned me his 61 LP JR. I played it through a 68 Drip Edge JBL TWIN. I didn’t want to give it back. Now he’s got my Twin on loan. I’m glad he’s getting the same juice I was getting from these two. I’m not getting that magic Twin bell tone from my 68 Vibrolux but it’s decent.
In my opinion this is the best comparison video with the most relevant, real life good playing. It's huge help. I get why many people demo pickups super dry and flat on the amp but to me that has no life or dynamics. Its not musical. I'd love to see something covering P90 sounds from the history of punk music too. But this has made me move much closer to a decision to try P90's in something like a Sire L7V.
Wish I had a guitar with a P90 in it. 😢 The Epiphone's sounded good, I liked the Yamaha's, loved the PRS's, and the Gibson SG's was just "Wow!" Regarding single pickups sounding better, as far as I know, the way guitars are typically wired means that all the pickups in the guitar remain "on" electrically to some extent even when they are turned off/deselected mechanically. This means multiple signal sources are being combined to some extent, and that reduces the quality of the main pickup that's "on." Magnetic pull on the strings is a less likely cause of signal degradation. As a consequence, I agree single pickup guitars tend to sound better - No phasing or boosting frequencies caused by other pickups. I found this information on the Dylan Talk's Tone Channel. And you can easily test it yourself by selecting one of the pickups in a multiple pickup guitar, and tap on a pole piece of one of the de-selected pickups with a small piece of metal (tip of a paper clip works). Most of the guitars used on the Sonic Drive Studio Channel have a single pickup, and they sound great.
love the comparison. I was a bit familiar with all of the two pup guitars but never heard them back to back before. interesting. but that SG Junior is incredible. thanks
I really didn't understand the p90 thing until I got my 1998 R6 Les Paul...... It definitely has a special sauce for the bluesy and clean jazzy stuff. It actually sounds really cool with Metal riffage with gain as well.
That SG has the attitude for miles. I had one like that in the mid 60s. Unfortunately it along with my 59 LP were nicked out of an LA studio. I miss the SG a little more actually. Great playing Corey.
In my photo you can see my stock Vintage V6P with 3 Stacked P90's , it's a brand here in the UK, American Alder Body with Maple Neck with Rosewood finger board , its very unique , eventually I am looking at other P90's , i love this guitar for the blues, the Vintage Wilkinson Trem is brilliant
Wish i'd got a son like you i'd like to try that PRS, but the Epiphone still sounds the best to me, great playing as always, everything you do should be TABed.
Nicely done. Although I haven't heard anything from you that wasn't tasty af. This solidifies my decision to put P90s in my first build, if I ever get time and room to work on it.
Visiting from a recommendation from Robert Baker. I have an ‘04 American Strat. I’ve tried, but I’m just not a single coil kinda guy. I put multiple different pick ups in this guitar. I landed on Seymour Duncan Phat Cats. I get some looks from other guitar players, but no complaints on the sound. I feel back in line be with my strat, and it’s now my main guitar. I’ll be looking up the Fralin’s you mentioned, P-90’s do have that noise to be aware of. Nice video, thanks. I’ll be checking out more
Man that Casino sounds amazing! Really sounds similar to McCartneys Casino tone on the track Another Girl. Love the midrange punch on those p90s! Great video!
I really would like to hear you playing with a Revstar Standard with humbucker pickups. I’m thinking to buy a RSS20 Congrats for your channel man I loved it.
the main reason i watched this video is because of the P90’s i love the way the epiphone sounds espeacially the neck pickup i have a double cut kit from ebay about a year and a half ago and it has one pick up route in the bridge which is a P90 and i want to pick the best one for my sound thank you for the video what do you suggest on a pick up i play all kinds of music rock metal 80’s hard rock to name a few i want to get into jazz too
Great sounding guitars and in you hands cool and great :)) I Have a couple of P90 guitars an Epiphone 339 and a G&L Broadcaster and I definitely agree they clean up tremendously well and can give you an expressive dynamic feel and I feel that when turned up they give you a warm clear distortion tone without cluttering up the harmonic content. Thanks for the Truefire lessons I dig them allot.
Ya i was on the fence about the p90 cause they sound like they have a butter bowl over it like its covered.. and muffled inarticulate so to speak.. but on your hollowbody with the air behind it they sound the Best

I have a lot of guitars and none with p90s. So I really appreciate this video as well as the inspiration to improve my playing. You're an amazing player
I suppose the Epiphone P90s are made of Alnico II, while the others are Alnico V. Does anyone know the specifications? I love P90s, but not so much at the bridge, I much prefer them at the neck.

I started playing strat copies, WHAT did I know? within weeks a humbucker was in the bridge, then it was humbuckers all the way! till I thought 1 day buying strings, a cheap little gold top with P90's I absolutely loved the sound the neck cranked up SWEET,ROLL BACK THE TONE OR THE VOL, YOU GOT SOMETHING DIFFERENT, THE IN BETWEEN SOUND AH SO MUCH TO PLAY WITH, EVEN OUT OF PHASE WITH EACH OTHER, WOW? IF YOU WANT A PUNK GUITAR, YOU WILL FIND THAT IN THE BRIDGE, BUT ROLL BACK THE VOL AN TONE, ITS LIKE A NEW NECK PICKUP ! EXPRESSIVE, DYNAMIC HARMONICALLY RICH! LOVE THEM, GUYS, AND GIRLS, TRY A REVSTAR, QUALITY SOUND AMAZING BUT THEY PLAY AND FEEL SUBLIME!!!
I have to admit I love the sound of a P90! But let’s face it dude you could play a noose and make it sound good! I love your style I’m a big fan. Keep the vids coming.
Hi, I really like your videos and have already subscribed. I have a very nice Gibson Melody Maker with two P90s and single volume and tone control on it. It sounds nice but the hum is outrageous. Is there a way to cut the hum?
The string pull thing was debunked as a pseudoscientific claim because the magnetic pull isn’t strong enough to audibly effect vibration. They’d have to be super close to the point that that pull hits the pull to contact curve. I think Rhett has a video about that. There’s something there, but it might be the psychological phenomenon of minimalism processing the harmonic points that fall within the pickups range so we’re more conscious of the instrument.
Check out some of the gear similar to what I used in the video.

@@DavidRFIT I have a standard 1st generation 502T with the tail piece. Awesome guitar
Yes they did. Revstar standard is my most recent acquisition, and it is close to perfect. I’d say 5 out of 5.🎸 Rock on 🤘
The sound and performance on the intro of the Revstar demo is superb, Corey!
The second u turned down the volume on that Casino my ears where so happy. Love that clean tone!
I have a Fralin hum cancelling P90 with a 5% overwind in my Junior and it sounds really good!
That P90 tone is the magic bullet and secret sauce all in one. Fantastic playing and demo.

Thank You Corey! You're a blessing to us players!

I bought my first P-90 a month ago and I love the sound.
I LOVE my PRS 594 w/ p90s.
Of all the guitars I’ve ever owned, it’s a hall of fame one for me
that SG Junior sounds exactly how I want my guitar to sound, so greattttttttttttttttttt
One of my favorite players on the tube, great playing...thanks
Thx so much
That PRS with Fralins sounded pretty much like humbuckers to me. The SG Junior was some good old rock n' roll fun!
Yes. The PRS was totally unimpressive.

Awesome comparison. BTW , any differences comparing yours 61 casino VS current Casino in terms of pickup sound ?
I’m still waiting to find a new one I can compare it to
Awesome jam on all of those beauties!
Thank you kindly!
It should be noted that P90s absolutely SING with slide guitar work, especially that Jr. 🔊✨
I have been wondering how these pickup’s would sound in my Michael Schenker Dean Flying V. I play mostly Blues and Rock.

Great demo, Corey! The tone of the Fralins surprised me. Have you tried the Fishman Fluence Gristle-Tone P90s? If so, what's your take on them?
haven't tried them but, I kinda don't like the idea of having to charge my pickups
Hi, I really like your videos and have already subscribed. I have a very nice Gibson Melody Maker with two P90s and single volume and tone control on it. It sounds nice but the hum is outrageous. Is there a way to cut the hum?
I’m afraid without changing your him canceling P90s, there isn’t much of a choice. You could use a noise gate but, I don’t prefer those
Terrific playing! Great feel and time.
Thx!
I play Doom/Stoner and all I use are p-90's I ordered Bare Knuckle Pig 90's abosolute killers....and not just for Doom very articulate.
Can you please do another 8 bar blues with the p90s, in style of keys to the highway?
That’s a good one!
