Jon, your limiting technique is best in business. As soon as your video starts playing, the music is loud and clean and in your face. Really appreciate the work you put into it.
I've got to say that these Revstars are bloody good, especially for the price. I have a couple of yamaha acoustics and they're great. They always make quality gear. Spot on review. 👍🏻
Love the features and versatility of the Revstar. Yamaha has set a very high standard at an affordable price point. Quite impressive. I enjoyed the way you demonstrated the different Selector settings. Thanks
First, this is how a demo/review video SHOULD be done. Excellent job. Showing a close up of the 5 way and Focus on off, is just a great way to do that. No 'wanking off' "look at me" soloing. Just good playing in musical ways, showing off the instrument how it would be used. I love my Revstar Standards, yes plural. RSS20 in Flash Green, and RSS02T with P90s in Hot Merlot.
Great video!-I play rock and heavy rock and have got the RSS20 and RSS02T and these guitars are absolutely amazing. The 20 is great for heavier riffs and the 02T is brilliant for a sharper leaner sound! Highly recommended.
Hi John, always and always again I listen to these phantastic songs you play. If these really all your own ideas, it definitely gonna be time to record it and to give it to the world. I find no words for it anymore, how unbelievebly cool this all sounds. It seems that you are a creative genius... Publish this phantastic stuff, right now!!! Most probably you also could play on a carrot, it would sound nevertheless... really impressive...
You had me at "now let's get dirty". I've been looking at Revstars for a while. Since I really lean towards your style of playing I was super happy for this review. I just got an Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy with the Fishman Fluence pickups (which I looooove) so I think something like this or the Epiphone LP 59 would be good for that other small hole in my soul.
I rub my eyes everytime I take it off the wall, am I dreaming or did I really get this flawless guitar for such a good price; Mine arrived 5 days ago so my 5 month wait was definately worthwhile. I got the RSS02T in Swift Blue. By the way your playing skills are very good and I noticed some more of your cool guitars in the reflection of this beautiful Revstar.
Thank you for this awesome review and demo of what the revstar capable of.. I am 53 years old and looking to buy a new guitar after forcefully had to letgo all my guitars and amps due to survival during the recent pandemic. I have had my types of guitars in the past, from standard strat to super strat, telecaster, semi hollow, LP style and etc.. as im getting older and guitar-less, my itchy fingers screaming for me to get that one guitar (which i can only afford now) can probably cover many genres of music. I watched some review of the Revstar after stumbled upon Matteo Mancuso. I am more of a strat guy but looking at this revstar design, kinda of fall in love with it. But my worry was, can i play heavier stuff (prog metal etc.) with this and not just pop or jazz.. your demo certainly checked all boxes! and now cant wait to have one!
One of the Ex-former guitarists for Aborted uses the Revstar budget model 500 dollar one in swift blue with the two white stripes. He plays it in Andrew Baena’s Death metal Vs. Deathcore Riffs Part 1 video on here. It can Death Metal/Deathcore and you can Chug it. Furthest thing in looks in regards of DM or Dxc or even Metal but the pick ups installed in this particular model sound very brutal and Metal if you got the right amplification + maybe pedals.
I’ve been gassing for an SG but don’t want to spend Gibson money and don’t want Epiphone cheapness either…. Yamaha never disappoints and this shape and sound is something else 👍🔥
You make the best demos by far, so professional ! It would be interesting to know in which tunings you are, I assume it's D standard or drop-C most of the time ? Thank you !
Any time I watch a great SDS video, I cannot stop but wonder what happened to Ownhammer? OH has released my fav. IRs, yet they haven't put out anything new for a long time. John is also not endorsing them anymore, seriously what's going on? There was a time when I thought John was the owner of OH :)
Thanks! I wasn't the owner and I'm simply not affiliated with them anymore. For any questions regarding that brand I recommend contacting them directly. Cheers!
I read a thread on The Gear Page, and it seems OwnHammer is moving towards a primarily software-based solution instead of WAV format IRs. It'll probably be similar to the GGD Studio Cabs series and might probably feature improvements in speaker and cab modelling. Also it was hinted that their products won't be available in their current form for too long.
I see very few youtubers mention the bigger body but none mention how the new bigger body feels good/bad too big ect. So how does the new body feel and does it cause any issues?
As usual i came to see a product review but your music is just SO good and inspiring. I love the way you take advantage of chords while riffing to create textures. i want the tabs !
Hey man! I really love your videos and you already gave me a fev great recommendations in the past so here I come again. Haha. I own a JVM410H and Invective MH. I'm on a hunt for my third head which I would like to be sonically different from the two I own. I'm thinking one of the Mesa Boogie small amps. Maybe Mark V 25. What do you think? How different it sounds compared to the two amps I own?
They should just embrace the motorcycle comparison and add a whammy bar that looks like a kickstand, lol. Seriously nice sounding and looking guitar. But I believe you could make most guitars sound nice and brutal, great review.
Awesome!! Just got the same colour and model hehe. Quick question, when you were doing the dirty and metal riffs, did you have the focus switch engaged or it was just the normal bridge position? Thank you very much. Cheers
Thanks. With a solid-state 15 Watt amp and this guitar but P90, what distortion pedal do you recommend? Will distortion work? I am a beginner in electric guitar , sorry if it is a dumb question :(
As good as it sounds, I feel like you are like Ola Englund, in that everything you produce sound almost the same. It's thick and fat, like I'm pretty sure it wont sound very different even if you are using a Gretsch guitar. I guess it's not a bad thing as it is your signature sound now.
Bit late - but I have both an Indo and Japanese version, and they feel almost identical. Not much in them. Keep in mind the Indonesian version is made in a Yamaha owned factory, not farmed out to Cort or some other manufacturer.
I think it’s just you, I have two, a standard and pro model, the action comes from the factory a touch high, and I’ve not seen any hints of dead spots on the board. The fret board and frets are very well done and the sustain is amazing. It would be weird if it was choking out - in fact I’ve seen a few reviewers specifically check for that and not found any issues.
Great video!! I play rock and heavy rock and have bought the RSS20 and the RSS02T and they are both amazing guitars! The 20 is brilliant for heavier riffs and the 02T is brilliant for sharper leaner sounds! Highly recommended!

I don’t need another guitar, I don’t need another guitar 😟
I'm sorry but, you do.... You always will :)
You never don't need another guitar 😬
I tried telling myself the same thing… it didn’t work 😅😂
'Iiiiiiii Neeeeeed Iiiiiiit' 🤤
Did you give in to it

Got mine in flash green last week. I’m in love with it. Blown away.
Mine is the same color its so cool

Totally agreed.
I've got the P90 in swift blue, and I think I want to pick up the humbucker model -- can't decide on flash green or black.
@@zacharysmithingell5460 Flash Green really looks great in person.
Great video!-I play rock and heavy rock and have got the RSS20 and RSS02T and these guitars are absolutely amazing. The 20 is great for heavier riffs and the 02T is brilliant for a sharper leaner sound! Highly recommended.
What’s the difference in the two spec wise ?
Can the P90s handle heavier stuff?
Dang! The Revstar sounds way heavier than I expected! Great demo as always Jon! Cheers from California!
The segment with the Orange amp and cab was a damn good tone and colorful riffing!
Thanks! I also really like that tone
Awesome! The playing, the sound, the song, the mix! I think I now want a Revstar!
I have a revstar. Absolutely awesome guitars.
Hi John, always and always again I listen to these phantastic songs you play. If these really all your own ideas, it definitely gonna be time to record it and to give it to the world. Great demo of this cool guitar @SonicDriveStudio . Could you do a direct comparison between the Yamaha RSS20 and and LTD EC1000?
I saw this video 4 times, because these demo songs are amazing. Thank you for this review, it's really enjoyable.
Thank you, that means a lot!
I had mine today, vintage white finish. Really impressed by the quality and playability of that guitar 🤟
You had me at "now let's get dirty". I've been looking at Revstars for a while. Since I really lean towards your style of playing I was super happy for this review. One of the best guitars on sale. Yamaha have done a incredible job.
Your riffs are always so interesting.
And I get a kick out of your double timing the drums, every time. 😁
Haha awesome! Thanks so much!
@@SonicDriveStudio Your use of 3's reminds me of Shiner as well.

Great job! Nice playing and a good demonstration, especially on the clean tones. You've convinced me to go for the humbucker version.
Thanks for this! Sold🎉❤
Hi Jon. Glad your doing a review of this guitar.
Thanks! I hope you enjoy it :)
I'm really considering this guitar. The features and the price point are right where I am.
For the money these guitars are unreal, I’m genuinely blown away by mine … I own a lot of guitars.

Great demo! I know I don't need another guitar, but the Revstar is so beautiful and sounds great!
didn't really deliver for me with the Mesa but sounds absolutely beautiful with the Rocker 50.

I got the Amir Derakh Baritone Yamaha - incredible experience. Finish and sound are second to none.

Awesome guitar awesome channel awesome riffs. So far so good!🫶
Man, those impedance matches and *mismatches” sound AWESOME! ;). Tx Man! Cant’ wait for my RSS20T!!
jeff schroeder from the smashing pumpkins uses revstars almost exclusively and loves them. man do they sound heavy live. great video!
This sounds great, though I get the impression you could make an egg-carton with rubber bands sound great.
Great playing, tones and mixing. Subbed.
That Mesa brought out the best in this guitar, love your videos Brother!
Stainless steel frets and that level of detail for 799 is insane value. Oh yeah and they look good too.
You make the best demos by far, so professional ! It would be interesting to know in which tunings you are, I assume it's D standard or drop-C most of the time ?
Thank you !
Thank you! Eb and drop C#. I usually prefer that over standard E.
Wow, sounds freakin awesome man!
Good review, thanks. 😎🤓
I bought the rse20 black and rss20 swift blue. I also have the silence guitar. I love all of them, it's my dream guitars 😂
When will this color with humbuckers be available in the United States ??? It's only available in that color with P90s in the states
I tried one a few weeks ago. It's a great guitar, for price tons of features
Years ago, I wanted a MIJ Jackson Dominion. The MIJ version of this is probably the closest I'd get at this point.
I really want one of those new revstar guitars... And this video is definitely affirming this 😂

refreshing style and good sound.
Do you think this guitar would benefit from a Pickup change or did you like the VH5 from Yamaha? Great Demo!

I wish I could play one somewhere, anywhere.

It’s definitely a good guitar too have .
wooooooowwww that axe 🔥🔥🔥
Got a lefty coming
Heard some Norma Jean inspired riffs here, Wrongdoers adjacent. :)
If only I could find one in stock here in the UK
Thomann should normally have some ready to ship in October 2022,

Would you choose this or a Sire L7 if you had the chance?
A7X vibes from the first 45 secs
Nice 7/8 groove
But does it Doom?
Did you play that intro off the top of your head or is it from something?
Is that the Standard or Professional model?...I haven't seen that finish offered with humbuckers as part of the Standard series yet...
great vid, btw
It's the standard RSS20
@@SonicDriveStudio Awesome, thanks...that's the one I've been waiting for
I have the the o.g revstar 420 you can throw anything at it.

Yamaha has always made great guitars, but that sunburst is genius invention, boring sunburst is not boring anymore.
yeah the amps are 2-4 times the cost of guitar alone in this vid

Indo

getting the word average !!
Haha John its not the guitar, you can make anything sound heavy :)
Every demo of this guitar it seems like the action is way too low and notes are being choked out across the entire board. Is it just me?
