すごい、使っている言語は英語なのに、これは日本の落語の雰囲気がある
伝統的な芸術である落語をこうやって語り継いでくれるのはとてもありがたいです。
I showed this to my students, and they want me to teach them English stories in a 落語 style. Haha
素晴らしすぎて No words

Tbf, I can't begin to imagine how many "ええええ" moments 日本人 have had when they find out English speakers say "that's bad" when they mean "that's good" :'D
Yes! 100% agree
"Yeah!" is another good one. It means Yes but sounds like いいえ (No).
The highest possible praise in UK-English is smth like "Not bad." (bc that basically means there's nothing wrong with it).
This is pretty interesting to see the culture difference in verbal communication. In English rather than adding more words people tend to use intonation. So sincere thank you can use cheerful tone or formal tone. And when you want to be rude just say "Thank you very much" in a very sarcastic tone or teaching preschool children how to read kind of tone.
Thank you so much!
@@KatsuraSunshineRakugo In what tone :D
Being a Chinese student who living in New Zealand and doing research in Japan right now, I found it's really interesting to see the cultural difference😂. Thank you for the amazing Rakugo. By the way, that most polite sentence can be easily translated to Chinese "感激之情,无以言表"😉.
謝謝!
I'd say, like, in Chinese/Japanese when we say there are "no words" to express my gratitude, we mean that the gratitude is beyond what language can describe, thus "no words" - just an expression to emphasize the scale or intensity (don't blame me for the bad word choice) of the gratitude. Maybe it's just not as intuitive to people growing up in an English-speaking culture.
Superb explanation ! Btw, Katsura Sunshine 素晴らしい落語だった!
@@670839245 no this is something westerners do too, he's playing it up for comedy. it's just far less formalised or necessarily polite, but people will say "i have no words" when someone does something super nice or amazing for them, and they express pretty much what you said. it's just not expected, and can be easily replaced with a genuine "thank you so much" or something similar.
サンキューが最下位wワロタw😂
このはなし、とても面白いので日本語字幕付きで見たい。
字幕見てても全部がわかるわけじゃないけど、確かに英訳すると変になる日本語って多いよね
言語の壁って難しいけどそこが面白いよね!
I was feeling so low these days,
but you made me laugh
BAD
すごい!本当にすごいですね!
I've been interested in rakugo for a long time, but it's the first time I laugh to tears! (I'm learning Japanese but the Japanese used in rakugo is too difficult and it still takes years to understand the Japanese rakugo.) But you are making a total new kind of rakugo, that is rakugo in English! You are amazing!
Ashley thank you so much!
Wow I didn't know that top one but it's really cool. ookii ni!
I'm listening to this from America because of an anime called shouwa genroki rakugo. [ probably not the full correct name] It made me want to hear rakugo
産休…Thanks…一番軽い感謝の言葉…!!!
英語圏の人にとっては屈辱だねぇ(笑)
Sankyu! サンキュ!
Depending on the context, we would also say 'I am in your debt' or 'I can't thank you enough.' I think many of those more formal japanese ones would be similarly contextual. Also for the shorter ones, we might also say 'my bad/sorry 'bout that' (warui), 'thanks' (arigatou), or 'cheers' (domo, roughly). (or 'sankkyu' haha)
"I can't express my gratitude"
"I can't thank you enough"
"how could I ever repay you?"
"I owe you"
"oh you shouldn't have"
"thank you so much :)”
"thanks a bunch"
"thanks, man"
"thanks"
"my bad"
*low grumble with a wave*
Yes. Very true.
Now when it is all clear - here I come, Japan ! Loved the video. ! Gracias !
Thank you!
素晴らしい芸です!ありがとう的な意味で「悪い」と日本語で言うのは、英語で"I'm sorry bothering you but..."と言うのに近いと思います。
Is it similar to "(my) bad"?
オチが最高
Too nice to tell you any words
Brilliant
I love Rakugo.
I watched show called Tiger and Dragon Japanese tv show from 2005 which story was about a Yakuza member who wanted to do Rakugo and after searching about this strange comedic style i found you Sunshine! Good stuff!! 😂👍
I just love these videos! I learn, I laugh and now, I almost got admitted because of laughing alone watching them. Thank you so much for the laughs!
Thank you so very much!

@@KatsuraSunshineRakugo thought so, and I've seen it on nhk world a few times, when your show is not about the wood prints haha. Ever thought about doing a blu-ray?
I apologize for the trouble I may cause you in the future, I hope I am humble enough to thank you in advance for your esteemed kindness and teaching, and I ask you teach me and beat me with a whip, for that my gratitude towards you has no words. (Is that formal enough?🤣👀)
Sanku u !)
Thank you so much!

@@KatsuraSunshineRakugo RUUUUUUDE

Warui - my bad?
三輝師匠も弟子取ればいいんじゃないかな❓
Thank you! XD
Than you!
サンキュー
I know it thank you. I just know it’s thank you. They use it quite lot in manga and anime. That’ll be always my gratitude word I would say no matter to whom on what situation when I go to Japan. And I have to say that “warui” means “my bad” as to Japanese in which it’s like the most casual word use for apologize in Japan. However, Japanese have the habit of using all those apology words into a gratitude like they always say “suimasen” to replace “arigato” for thank you, that’s why they also use “warui”, a word meaning “my bad” that should be for apology, for gratitude
I would say "39" will be lower than "Thank you." 😊
whoa mr black from oishinbo
interesting!
Thanks!
How do you write the "I can never unburden myself of the debt of gratitude I owe unto you" in Japanese?
悪いねぇ、ってやつかな。たしかに😂
This is so damn awesome XD
OMG You are a genius lol
Thank you so much!
I miss watching the anime "Joshiraku", since I have watched a lot of anime, I understand some japanese, So I think I got used to Japanese comedies and Find your Joke really funny, Keep Uploading Videos, San Kyu (39)
英語あまり聴き取れないくせに、最後のオチで吹きました
Hey Sunshine, I am so curious that why don't you or your teacher has a name like 笑福亭鹤瓶(しょうふくてい つるべ)?I was once told that every らくご teller has a stage name like xx亭xx. (In Japanese maybe called “亭号”?)Sorry for the mixture of English, Japanese and Chinese(or かんじ ?)and any rudeness if i have. If you answer me I will be so happy and grateful.
You are right many Rakugo storytellers have that "tei" in their name but certainly not all. Katsura is one of the most common Rakugo names there is. Some other common ones are Hayashi-ya 林家 Tatekawa 立川
@@KatsuraSunshineRakugo ありがとうございます!I hope I can watch your live performance in China or Osaka !(though my English or Japanese is not so well.....)
@@joestarjoel8785 I hope so too!! 謝謝

Thank you too!
Posting this for myself when I come back to this video again and want to copy paste this to a japanese person as a joke again:
何度感謝申し上げてよいやら言葉もございません
So interesting!
敬語撲滅運動!
Thank you so much!
マジコメすると
A:「バイトに遅れそうだよ」
B:「俺の自転車貸してやろうか」
A:「ああ、悪いな」
のようなダイアログにおいて「悪い」は ”Sorry. I owe you.” のように訳されるべきで ”Bad” と言っているわけではないですね。日本語でも この場合の「悪い」は「(迷惑・手間・不便などをかけて)すまない・申し訳ない」と言っているのであって、相手を悪いと責めているわけではないです。英語の Good に幾つも意味があるように、日本語の「悪い」にも複数の意味があると理解する必要があります。
I've een looking for that kind of dictionary and still no luck :(
I'm still looking for one XD
How do you write the Japanese for "In order to express the gratitude I feel towards you there are no words." I've tried to find it on Google without luck, and it's said very fast here so it's hard to hear the sounds,.
Sorry it is a loose translation so it won't come up. なんと感謝申し上げて良いいやら言葉もございません。
Sunshine-san, where aaaare yoooou....?

@@KatsuraSunshineRakugo Great! Fit and well? Awaiting your next videooooooo ^^)

謙遜したというか、へりくだった言い方とかを英訳するのは特に難しいですよね(´;ω;`)
微妙なニュアンス...???
たしかに目上の人にサンキューは失礼極まりない
It was funny, but is this actually Rakugo, though? There are not actually a story, certain characters and mimicry.
Probably not the traditional style for sure, but doesn't every art form evolve as it spreads? Since this is told in English, the storyteller has skillfully added English comedic nuances to his performance, and makes it quite enjoyable, right? Besides, as per the word Rakugo --> 落語 --> Story with an 'ochi' (gag) --> This definitely falls under the category
@@kavinpaul2907 Yeah I really like like the video but it felt like a western comedy rather than Rakugo story. I don't know about it much but I wonder if any Japanese Rakugo performer does it like this.
@@DonguriGaming to be honest, I haven’t really watched any Japanese performances apart from those in Genraku Showa Rakugo Shinjuu, and those are from a traditional period, so you can see the stark differences between the two. It would be quite interesting to see a Japanese performer making fun of ‘Engrish’ though lol
@@DonguriGaming he also does the traditional stories and he learned from a japanese rakugo master so yeah probably he knows what he's doing
damnn thank you is the worst gratitude. daaaaamn hahahaha. whoa.
so in order to grossly and more than likely completely incorrectly interpret it. Rakugo is basically like Japanese Stand-up comedy but instead of standing up, you have a fan and towel?
