@佐藤謙二 regaurdless the idea ,fruit don't fall far from the tree , they never had a orchard on the a mountain wall those ppl beleave fruit don't fall close to the tree it was crazy!
I just found this awesome perfomance because I began watching the anime 'Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu' and was curious about real life rakugo. And I must say this performance is so incredible, its unbelievable how this is an dying art. Anime can never show how great this is, but I'm glad they are trying to promote rakugo that way. I'm totally hooked and hope I will find more rakugo perfomances in englisch or at least translated so I can enjoy more.
+Pluanda Dude, me too! I love that the anime is making younger people aware of the existence of Rakugo, hopefully it goes a long way to keeping it alive.
I see many people who are interested in Rakugo after watching "Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu", I recommend a Japanese drama called " tiger and dragon" , it also revolves around rakugo, and it's pretty funny, it was actually the reason I picked up the anime, because I already had an interest in rakugo after watching the drama years ago.
siv yig Wait wait wait.....Thats not the name of the drama.Maybe it is I don't know.I just said toradora bcus there's an anime named that(which is one of my fav. btw).Toradora literally means tiger and dragon.I thought you were joking and wanted to know the japanese title bcus u knew about toradora. But it seems u didnt know.So.....sorry for the inconvenience u might have had bcus of me.
昔、英語の落語を聞いたので、この動画に至りました。このような落語家の活躍で、日本の話芸が世界中に広まってくれると嬉しいです。 I hope that Rakugo funny story telling becomes more popular all over the world thanks to such young energetic tellers.
It's so pleasant to see this amazing artform is still alive and well today. Perhaps Japanese traditionalists would not approve, but I think having it performed in English and around the world can only benefit the art. It brings tears to my eyes to see that it's doing well (or at least as well as possible). Wonderful performance, also, very engrossing and enjoyable ( and funny, of course, Mr. Hasegawa!)
Started reading Akane-banashi and have been amazed by the culture surrounding these stories. Thank you for offering an english version as well for those who would have no idea what it is otherwise!
Same, I came here because of Akane-Banashi and wondered if there was anyone else. I still believe though, from what I understand of the art form, that it wasn't just a repeat of existing stories, but stories made up by the performer.
Damn, I was just reading about the various forms of classical Japanese art and storytelling, and I thought to myself that it was too bad that I would likely never be able to appreciate or even understand the feel of a rakugo, since I don't speak Japanese. Then, I found this. Thanks!
Early in the story: is this the plot of polar bear cafe? few minutes in: this is the plot of ploar bear cafe 9:50 - this is not the plot of polar bear cafe...
Wow its so weird, i just listened to the selling out podcast and then i randomly searched for "rakugo" in youtube just to find this comment as the top comment
英語の授業で見て初めて知りました。 英語でも日本の落語の面白さが伝わっていてすごいと思いました! I learned it for the first time in English class. I thought that the entertainment of Japanese rakugo is transmitted in English and it is amazing!
I had the honor of getting a presentation about the basics of rakugo by Oshima-sensei today. She is such a sweet and beautiful person and I'm sad I didn't get to see her perform, which is why I'm so happy this video is on here ^^. Still super stoked I got to see Sanyuutei Ryuraku sensei.
I have to give you both my congratulations and throw at you all the envy I can! I cannot think of any better privilege in this day and age. I'm very happy for you and wish to all the gods I could have been next to you!
Oh wow, this is neat. I discovered Rakugo after playing a video game series called Ace Attorney. In the game, you take the roll of a defense attorney in various homicide cases, and a Rakugo theater just happens to be the scene of a crime for one of the later cases. I got curious as to what it is and looked it up. This is quite entertaining!
I actually got here from a Joshiraku video, but I also love Rakugo, and is lucky enough to be able to appreciate it in original Japanese. It's such a lovely art, storytelling at its finest. The more dramatic stories are an amazng experience to watch - you completely forget the storyteller, and the story and characters come to life.
I love the English version, and Ms. Kimie speaks in perfect English. There is ANA (All Nippon Airlines)-sponsored Rakugo in the Philippines. Hopefully I can visit in the Yose. (Jan 26, 2019 at 4F RCBC Plaza, Makati City, Metro Manila), and hopefully the entrance is free.
I'm glad things like Joshiraku exist that bring so many things about Japanese culture like this that the rest of us don't really know about to our attention. I enjoyed this.
Although, one of the jokes in Joshiraku is they never actually do Rakugo during the run time of the episodes besides a few out of context scenes on that stage.
6 years ago, people watched this because of a rakugo anime called "Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu". Today, i am watching this because of another rakugo anime called "Uchi no Shishou wa Shippo ga Nai". And so the cycle continues, can't wait for the next rakugo anime, i've started to fall in love with this awesome performance art and can't wait to see what more rakugo anime there'll be in the future to further promote the art. Oh, and awesome performance, her english accent was so goddamn good. Japanese culture is a lot more than just anime and cat girls, but goddamn it do they help us discover the other hidden parts of it. I love it.
"I got here from my research on Japanese arts!" "I got here from ace Attorney!" Bro,,, I got here from a voiceline from let it die,, apparently uncle death likes these. Interesting.
I'm fascinated by this! 👍She performed and expressed the essence of Rakugo in English so well!! Amazing! It's inspiring!! I wish I could have a group or club where I could practice it together near me... Amazing!! 😄👍 Great job!!
There's so much lost in translation >< I loved Oshima's rendition of this classic, but the puns just don't translate well. Her version in japanese is amazing as well, I had the luck to see her live a few years ago. If it's available on youtube, it's 100% worth the watch
Midori Gurin 3 日前 I also came here just today. I am a Japanese so I understand Rakugo, but I was thinking it is difficult to understand for foreigner. But she did it. Wow it is so wonderful!!!
Rakugo is best enjoyed without food, especially Ramen noodles... Here I am, watching this on You Tube, with a bowl of rice noodles. I had to pause so I can finish eating, all this cause of the opening joke she made... Almost tipped the bowl laughing!
Oh, I loved this performance so-so much! It's fascinating how she was able to tell this hilarious story with only a few props & by only sitting down. (I feel bad that some kids called her stupid or didn't understand the performance. What can ya do, though?)

I'll have you know I'm working on your fix right now, in spite of having a terrible cold. DETERMINATION
+Mother's Basement Well Penguin-san did seem to be a fan of Rakugo, since he wanted to do it.

Dude, I literally came here because of that too
HAHAHA, EXACTLY WHAT I CAME FOR!
And Ace Attorney owes its existence to the creator Shu Takumi's love of Perry Mason and Columbo.

After watching Joshiraku, I have always wanted to see an actual Rakugo performance. Her English is amazing!
枕のバーの老人の話も猫の茶碗を昇華させた素晴らしいものです❗感動しました❗
granddad humor at its finest
i love it
Thank you Akane-Banashi for my newfound interest in Rakugo

Was watching Kabukichou Sherlock anime. Sherlock uses Rakugo in the anime. I did not even know it was a thing tell they gave it a name in the anime.
That's a really convincing English accent. Only few Japanese people can pull that off.
True, she somehow captures that Karen Canadian sounding accent
Yeah for a Japanese woman, her English was excellent!
imm nope they are not much but they also are not "only few"
She speaks really well, its admirable
"I got here from my research on Japanese arts!"
"I got here from ace Attorney!"
Bro,,, I got here from a voiceline from let it die,, apparently uncle death likes these. Interesting.
A good laugh from a talented performer! Will be sharing this with friends and family, and maybe even memorizing the main story for camping trips!
New Crown3にこの方の単元があって聞きにきました!海外の方々のコメントばかりで驚きました😳
I'm a fan of theater so when I heard and read about Rakugo I was immediately interested!
damn never knew rokugo can be this good gonna watch some more in the future XD
I was laughing so much about the twist at the end 😂😂
That was thoroughly enjoyable.
I'm fascinated by this! 👍She performed and expressed the essence of Rakugo in English so well!! Amazing! It's inspiring!! I wish I could have a group or club where I could practice it together near me... Amazing!! 😄👍 Great job!!
I had the same honor today! Oshima-sensei is a great person.
I got here from the latest Ace Attorney

Was Sadhmahdi seriously about to perform the entirety of Jugemu

Discovered Rakugo from Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice. It’s very intriguing and it’s very entertaining!
This woman is great!
There's so much lost in translation >< I loved Oshima's rendition of this classic, but the puns just don't translate well. Her version in japanese is amazing as well, I had the luck to see her live a few years ago. If it's available on youtube, it's 100% worth the watch
What kind of puns are we talking
Yes but over many years as one becomes familiar with the ways of Japan. One starts to understand the puns and cultural references.
I love this! Gotta thank Akane Banashi for introducing me to Rakugo.
an anime called Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu brought me here...
I came here from Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney Spirit of Justice, I became curios of what real rakugo is like, after seeing Uendo Toneido doing it.

Came here from watching Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu. Real Rakugo is also quite entertaining.
It's so funny hahaha. I wonder if I will have a chance to watch rakugo in a theater some day, I don't know if there is any rakugoka in Brazil:/
Thank you Shouwa Gemroku Rakugo Shinjuu for introducing me to this wonderful art.
wow time flew I didnt even realize 20 min went by
Who else is here because they are reading Akane-banashi?
Hahaha omg
Rakugo is best enjoyed without food, especially Ramen noodles... Here I am, watching this on You Tube, with a bowl of rice noodles.
I had to pause so I can finish eating, all this cause of the opening joke she made... Almost tipped the bowl laughing!
Wow it feels like theirs actually multiple people on stage wtf im surprised
OMG it was awesome, I love it
Akane Banashi brought me here, I love this
教科書から来ましたw
LOL. Ill admit it, Joshiraku brought me here too. I had no idea that this was so funny, instead of "stand up" its "sit down" comedy.
Cool! I like it very much!
Akane-banashi o/
I like everything about this
英語で話される落語を日本語字幕で見るというのはなんとも不思議な感じだ
It's little strange for me to read Japanese subtitles of English Rakugo...
+anubisu1024 For me it's helpful to enhance my hiragana-reading-skills :)
I think so to
Dame i haven't seen this video in awhile geez RUclips you keep everything on point
I love Rakugo in English. When you're in Pakistan next time I hope I can attend. I never knew Rakugo were performed in Pakistan,

Everyone saying they’re here because of 'Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu' while I am here because of Joshiraku. :)
This is like stand-up comedy . . .except that you’re sitting down!
Huh, I didn't know she visited here in the Philippines.
I hope I can see her here. :)
Thanks. A great story teller.
She's so awesome
THis is funnier than I expected, these folks are very talented to do the whole thing alone sitting and no props.
Please come back to New York!
JIGIMEN JIGIMEN
すげえな.…
It’s amazing
I love this wish the Japanese ones were subed in English
Her English is the best I have ever heard from a person from Japan.
so immersive
Oh, I loved this performance so-so much! It's fascinating how she was able to tell this hilarious story with only a few props & by only sitting down.
(I feel bad that some kids called her stupid or didn't understand the performance. What can ya do, though?)
(And Joshiraku is amazing - I love the weird non sequitour humour and the tons of horrible puns)
Yugami brought me here.
Mah man.
its actually very funny 😆
XD I'm glad I'm not the only one that was brought here from Joshiraku =)
Pfff...Bwahahahahahaha!!! Lovely, I wanna try it :3 (storyteller learning techniques)
