AWESOME, your a life saver!
I have a ‘MY22’ Kona EV 64kWh Ultimate (collected 1/Aug/22). Earlier this evening I tried to BlueLink and set the heat/defrost to come on in the morning as I’ve a Dr’s appointment! But no response, so went outside and car was DEAD. This happened over Xmas/NewYear when I was visiting my family in Yorkshire. AA came out and 12v battery was at 3v, so he boosted it, brought car back to life, said drive it for 20mins minimum without shutting it down (STOP BUTTON). And so everything seemed OK. After Google-ing, seems almost common to many EV’s , and so I got myself a usb-rechargeable-booster-battery (just in case). Well I needed it just now.
So my question (if you don’t know the answer, no worries);-
If I put car in Utility-Mode and lock it up, how long do you think it would take for the Traction-Battery to Fully-Charge the 12v-Battery via the Built-in-DCDC-Converter?
ALTERNATIVELY if I set the car to operate “Air-Con/Car-Warm” prior to a Journey, say every 3 or 4 days during the coldest (3-4am), do you think this should be enough to keep the 12v battery topped up, as I’ve read somewhere that when AirCon/Heating is enabled, the DCDC is turned on to allow the 12v battery to maintain charge, as the AirCon/Heating is powered by the 12v battery?
If you don’t know, no worries, thanks for an excellent movie.
It’s a Motability car so I am unable to do things like “change the 12v battery”
Found the utility mode just the other day and had no idea what it did, thanks.
This also works for the E-Niro!
Good to know this works with e-Niro
Great stuff. A friend (very non-techie) has a Kona and wishes she had my Tesla "Dog Mode" (especially with this ridiculously hot May in BC)
I was sure it was possible and you have confirmed it beautifully.
Well done.
Great vid! Thanks for the info! I tested it myself today, I did however find an easier way to lock the car. Just open the window when getting out, press the close doors button, then close the window, and done! Don't need to fiddle with the key inside the fob. Until you're unlocking again that is.... Still working on that one.
*Press the close doors and close window through the open window that is*
Thank you so much for the video! This question comes up so frequently in forums and people always get it wrong. Now I will just refer to your video!
One more thing though: The yellow light in the front logo will be lit as well. Another thing people don't seem to understand.
Maybe an idea for another video. All situations when the light is on.
The yellow light in the hyundai badge is actually really simple its just the to tell you power is being taken from the traction battery to top up the 12v battery under the bonnet.
@@EvLifeUK yes, it is simple. Any time there is current from the high traction battery involved and the car is not driving. However people don't seem to understand that. 🤔😜👍
Yup, I leave the key/fob in my pocket all the time, even when the cars switched on and I just walk away for a minute to collect something else that I need to put in the car.... I ignore the warning sound from the vehicle telling me the keys are not in the car.
Thank you, and here I thought you had to leave the key fob in. Cheers
well if i have help one person with this im more then happy
7:15 What's up with the forest pumpkins? Looks like a great walking trail, for humans as well as dogs. Thanks for the video tip. We test-drove a Kona recently and when it becomes more affordable (43k in Canadian dollars - ouch) we and our dog would love it. Cheers.
While Im glad it has this feature. I feel like it's more of a bug made into a feature. I feel like Tesla acknowledges and embraces the growing demand for dog friendly features whereas with the Kona, it's a glitch like in my Mazda cx3. Either way, due to it. I'm seriously considering getting it. Just hope they don't patch it.
OK didn;t know u could do this, I now want a Kona :-)
there are a few little treats with the Kona.
Hi Nice video ! Does it work in Ioniq 5? Leaving the car whit dogs in.
I believe it does, you can lock using the smartphone app.
I am so happy to know this! Got my Kona about a month ago, and have my 14 year old pup, so this is good knowledge. A question though... Say I don't have a small assistant to carry the fob away from the vehicle for me, is that going to be an issue? Or is that just because you were going to attempt to open the boot to illustrate that it would remain locked while you were gone away from the car (with the fob)?
haha yeh it was just to show the boot is locked. As soon as you walk away you will be fair enough from the car so the boot sensor wont be active.
Thanks! Wasn't even aware of the Utility mode... Going out to test it now... No dogs though :-(
haha you can also use it when you are popping to the shops to grab a few bits seats stay warm well.
@@EvLifeUK Agreed, Fantastic!
another question: Does Utility mode work when charging???? THAT would be cool...
The car wont do that, though there is nothing wrong with you leaving the car in accessory mode while charging. The screen can be changed to the temp by pressing climate and climate control will work. Then you can lock the doors using the key the only difference is your day light running lights will be on.
I have the identical Kona (except for the steering wheel location :-) ) You do some great videos (subjects & video qualities)... What kind of tech are you using for video & it's treatment :-)
Nothing fancy as this is just a way I share my question/answers out loud hopefully helping someone along the way. Everything i use is just stuff i have to hand, i used a iPhone 8 to start with now a iPhone 11, editing is just iMovie on my iMac. Its just stuff I have around as i don't get paid or anything from youtube.
If there are anything you guys would like to see in future videos then feel free to comment below
How about a report on the charging speeds? I have discovered (only black-mark on my Kona EV) that @ AC charge stations, the Kona will only charge @ 7.2-7.3kW (as it AC charges by Single-phase-only) rather than using the full 23kW AC charging potential at the three-phase AC charging stations. DC... No problems :-)
@@csimandl thanks the new 2020 kona can charge at 11kw using 3 phase its a option you can know spec.
@@EvLifeUK I can't keep buying kona's each year ;-) bit of a shame.
Me too. 🤙🙏
Just a thought when you got back to the car and the remote wouldn’t work, would the boot open or was that also locked.
the boot sensor is active so if you to walk up to the boot with the key fob the boot will open. This was the problem people thought that the boot wasn't locked when it actually was.
Ev Life UK
The reason I asked was the fact that on your return the fob wouldn’t open the doors so I wondered if there was some kind of timer within the car that deactivated the sensor. After you locked the car with your key did that mean that the fob wouldn’t work on the doors straight away. Regard Colin.
Anyone tried with Niro EV if same system?
