    AWESOME, your a life saver! I have a ‘MY22’ Kona EV 64kWh Ultimate (collected 1/Aug/22). Earlier this evening I tried to BlueLink and set the heat/defrost to come on in the morning as I’ve a Dr’s appointment! But no response, so went outside and car was DEAD. This happened over Xmas/NewYear when I was visiting my family in Yorkshire. AA came out and 12v battery was at 3v, so he boosted it, brought car back to life, said drive it for 20mins minimum without shutting it down (STOP BUTTON). And so everything seemed OK. After Google-ing, seems almost common to many EV’s , and so I got myself a usb-rechargeable-booster-battery (just in case). Well I needed it just now. So my question (if you don’t know the answer, no worries);- If I put car in Utility-Mode and lock it up, how long do you think it would take for the Traction-Battery to Fully-Charge the 12v-Battery via the Built-in-DCDC-Converter? ALTERNATIVELY if I set the car to operate “Air-Con/Car-Warm” prior to a Journey, say every 3 or 4 days during the coldest (3-4am), do you think this should be enough to keep the 12v battery topped up, as I’ve read somewhere that when AirCon/Heating is enabled, the DCDC is turned on to allow the 12v battery to maintain charge, as the AirCon/Heating is powered by the 12v battery? If you don’t know, no worries, thanks for an excellent movie. It’s a Motability car so I am unable to do things like “change the 12v battery”

    Your right if it were another make of car people would be moaning a lot more, instead you get comments like I’ve just read, “ you’ll get a few niggles that get fixed but it a great car best I’ve ever had” No that’s not the right attitude as you rightly state after this many years the car should be near perfect and definitely should not be delivered with badly aligned panels and scratches, that’s very poor PDI. Tesla are ahead mainly because of their brilliant charging network but in years to come that will all change. No doubt the Tesla fan club will have something to say about these comments, I can see them getting all steamed up already. 😂

    There is basically no PDI, they check for any major damage but that is about it. Unfortunately the problem all comes down to the fact a large amount of cars get delivered in one go and they have to get them delivered as fast as possible and have limited room. Should that be the case, no, these issues shouldn’t exist coming out of the factory but when they do they should get picked up, unfortunately I can’t see that improving until the build quality improves hopefully from Berlin, it already seems better on those that have come from Shanghai. As for software updates I’ve had hardly any that have actually cause me issues, but if you want less buggy updates set your update preference to standard and then it’s more likely to have been tested for longer and any bugs ironed out

    • @EvLifeUK
      @EvLifeUK 3 года назад

      Yeh that’s the problem, I think they need to get so many delivered things get overlooked. Like you say hopefully this will improve over time when gigs Berlin opens and the amount each factory has to produce will be reduced. Hopefully with so much more variety of EV then just a few years back things will improve.

    I had the same dilemma (no dogs) but I got to Calais sooooooo late from Amsterdam that I literally arrived at that terminal with 4% and quickly supercharged for less than 10 minutes and a quick toilet break before having to board. So I just made it to Maidstone (probably less than your 15%) which as you've shown is close to an office in an odd place so was regenning and driving at 50 all the way. It was late at night though.I think they assume we would fully charge before getting on the train (like I did on the outbound train from the UK) but it's not always possible. So you'd think that somebody would put some rapid chargers in the town centre wouldn't you?

    Thanks for flagging that Hyundai missed a trick in not making the Kona something that can adapt to non-UK & Ireland journeys. The economics tempted you to go back to ICE, but I note that you were subsequently convinced by the supercharger network to protect the EV Life brand. I'm a new subscriber via the FB Leaf group you shared your Elgin to Lincoln Leaf trip in. Glad you didn't go back to fossil cars and for showing how the EV life is manageable for the many people that can't charge at home.

    • @EvLifeUK
      @EvLifeUK 3 года назад

      Glad it helps. You can get stickers for holidays but as I was moving here and had to import the car daft military rules lol. Hyundai did really miss a trick though I wasn’t even aware of it, thought with LED headlights there would of been no need for any patterned lights and just have a flat pattern like Tesla. Due to covid we moving back to the in July so will be able to get back to the videos again.

    While Im glad it has this feature. I feel like it's more of a bug made into a feature. I feel like Tesla acknowledges and embraces the growing demand for dog friendly features whereas with the Kona, it's a glitch like in my Mazda cx3. Either way, due to it. I'm seriously considering getting it. Just hope they don't patch it.

    My Kona should tip over 18k miles in the next week or so. Had it 15 months. Yesterday, we drove from Derby to Anglesey, round the island and back again. Total of 400 miles in 9 hours and averaging 4.2m/kWh. Charged at Holyhead for half an hour then at St Asaph while having a relaxing beer at the hotel where the Engenie charger is located. Not sure if having a supercharger-capable car would have changed the trip in any way, except possibly the higher charge speed may have meant only a single stop was required - the stops were primarily for loo/refreshment but we did need at least one charge lasting 40 minutes to get us all the way home. Enjoying your road trips and am interested in the difference between Kona/M3 trips in terms of planning and charging. Keep it up!! :-)

    • @EvLifeUK
      @EvLifeUK 4 года назад

      We loved our Kona and i'm no Tesla fan boy that's slates every other EV, that's just not me. I like to give as much detail so people can make their own decisions. Over 400 miles is a great trip when I mentioned the faf of road tripping the Kona, I wasn't meaning the Kona was the issue. It's a great ev and we loved it for 18months and 27k miles. Its purely the infrastructure having to use Plugshare to plan routes whilst avoiding Ecotricity or Charge your Car as they use the same brand of chargers. The problem I had at the Eurotunnel was that the Kona wouldn't take a charge and just tripped out. Honestly I think the EV market would be better and more reliable without Ecotricity. TeslaIin,Eurotunnel in Sat Nav and it told me were to charge, what % I would arrive with which adjusts to how you drive and how long you need to charge for to reach your destination.Eurotunneldidn'ts soon as I was in the uk it sent me to Maidstone Supercharger. It tells you how many stalls are available and what amenities are there. It also shows how long you need to charge until you have enough charge to reach your destination. This same issue in the Kona would have meant Plugshare trying to find a charger close by, working out if I have the right cards or app in the UK and for Europe (theres a lot). Tesla just removes all that stress and as you can see my 6 year old can charge the car. Hopefully with future chargers they will all be the same as Tesla, you just plug in and the car talks to the charger and tells it who to bill. Fastned already does this with auto charge with any CCS car and we used that a few times with the Kona as it worked great! Definitely something all new chargers should have!

    This might have been asked before but did you get a RHD because you'll eventually moving back to the UĶ? The Tesla charging network looks amazing. So simple. Unfortunately I'm incredibly bad at reversing into a parking space, thats why I like a car with the charging port at the front, hence my Kia e Niro! Glad you like the Tesla though.

    • @EvLifeUK
      @EvLifeUK 4 года назад

      The reason for the RHD is we are only here for another 2ish years. The car will be kept longer than this and returning to the uk with us. We plan to keep the car at least another couple of years before pos a model Y or something else if charging infrastructure is were it should be. I not going to lie the charging network was the main draw to Tesla, spec out here with Fastned and Ionity being over 50p / kWh Tesla is 23p/kwh. We both loved our Kona and im not a Tesla fan boy that slates everything else but out here where I can't charge the car at our house a Tesla was the right choice. reversing the car isn't actually bad at all full screen camera is great. eNiro is a great car would would have preferred one to the Kona but we needed a car there and then and Kona was available first. Interestingly we found the Kona 64kwh was great around town and sub 50mph drive could get 300 miles but at motorway speeds the most we got was 240 and on this road trip we managed 200miles in the SR+ 3 with 30 miles left which I think is great baring in mind the SR+ 3 only has a 50kwh battery.

Nothing like the Model 3 but it made me very happy to see that speed. Will probably never see it again in the UK!! I suspect my next EV will be a Model Y in around 4 years, by which time I hope all Tesla's QC issues will be resolved. Don’t get me wrong the small issues were all resolved with in first 2 months of ownership so if that is all the problems I have then I will be happy. With your kona if it’s warm and low state of charge you should be able to get around 73kw charge speed but it literally is for a min or two we saw it at Gretna ionity when it used to be £8 flat fee enjoy your car it is still a great car.

Apparently, there is news of at least 2 Kona EV fires and is why the update is being done. An interesting bit of info. that I noticed on Hyundai's site was this update isn't categorized as a 'Safety Recall', but instead a 'Service Campaign'. Here is a link to the article regarding the fires ... www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/hyundai-kona-electric-battery-fire-update/ Also, not sure if this is issue is restricted to only N. America cars or not.
