  • This is my last journey with my 2014 Nissan Leaf 24kwh Tekna. Great car and no issues over the last 18 months and 15k miles. The 450 mile journey took place on Thursday 1st November 2018, leaving Elgin in the Highlands of Scotland driving down to Lincoln. With a few issues along the way.

Pretty epic 16 hours/ 450 miles = around 30 mph average (and the accident delay and/or roadworks is almost inevitable nowadays . Be interesting to repeat that in the Kona and see how much time could be shaved off.

I completely agree i spent 4hrs 40mins charging and the 1hr and 30mins for the accident and traffic wasn't great i only spent just over 10hrs driving. Im repeating this drive in the KONA on the 12th Dec and it will de documented. There are few vids before that though all on the KONA.

How was the heat buildup in de battery pack?
I read somewhere Nissan recomments using only 1 fast charge per day.
I own a leaf but we use a ICE car for long trips,

The battery was hot but was still charging at 40+kw this 24kwh and the 30kwh leaf don't struggle with battery heating up and restricting charging speed by the BMS (battery management system). It is only the new shape Nissan Leaf that suffers with the restrictive charging speed #rapidgate. Hope this helps

Thanks for you´re responds. I have a 24kwh leaf. How much heat bars did you gain during the charging on this trip. charging speed staying high is great but battery life is also my concern. I´m trying to determine how far we can take the Leaf without comprimising the battery too much.

This is a very gd point it got to the bar below the red but was still taking a full speed charge. Once it got to this bar when i would unplug and drive again temp would drop 1 bar then go back up once i was charging again. Few rapid charges isn't a bad thing for any ev. We Use to regularly rapid charge the Leaf and still had 96% left checked with leaf spy before i handed it over to my mum, she plans to keep it a few years so i can keep checking battery health over time.
