- There are certain things like white gloves, Lacoste shirts, turtlenecks, posh dinosaurs, and nicknames ending in “y” (see Flighty, Subby, et al.) that are just intrinsic parts of the Urban Gentry channel.
One of these things is undoubtedly the War Room, which I like to think of as a man cave with a difference, where nerdy tchotchkes meet classicism and culture. The Urban Gentry War Room has always been the planning and creative space dedicated not only to the creation of videos, but also a place for fun, learning, and relaxation.
In today’s video, I am unexpectedly joined by Hugo Mountbatten as I tour the newly established and almost fully operational Philidelphia version of my former NYC setup. I share some of my favorite books, movies, toys, models, tech, games, and of course, watch and horology related goodness!

I could watch a 20 min episode of Hugo easily! 😄😄😄
Love the video and the new room, especially the model of the Queen Mary. On March 29th 1945 my father was seriously wounded in Germany, after having fought the Battle of the Bulge and while on his way with his unit to liberate Dachau (3rd Battalion, 157th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Felix L. Sparks). He miraculously survived and was rescued, sent to England for multiple surgeries and a brief convalescence, after which he and several thousand wounded GIs were packed in tight on the Queen Mary and shipped back to New York and the USA. I salute that great ship. Thank you for sharing it with us. Years later, in March 1969, my Dad gave me an Omega Speedmaster, just four months before Apollo 11. I wore it while watching Armstrong take his first step on the moon, and am wearing it today in commemoration of that event. (After fifty years, and one main spring change, it still runs great!) Thanks for all you do to remind us of important historical artifacts and milestones. Take care, and God bless.

Watching from the early days and seeing the gradual additions to your NY War Room, it was becoming a little cramped. Glad you’ve got some space to spread out and enjoy!

Now addicted to your channel. I am English , retired and live alone with my dog in a cave house in rural Spain. I don't watch TV, so rely on the internet for viewing purposes. Only recently found your channel. Keep up the good work.
Hugo makes me laugh every time, he could be telling us a sad story and I’d still laugh my head off. Love the new setup, and can’t wait for the next video.

What a great space. I despise the term "man cave". It brings to mind an over-abundance of framed sports jerseys and beer merch.
I call my space "The Cabinet Of Curiosities" (after a book by my favorite authors Preston & Child). Everything from my books, WW II militaria, antiques and oddities to my table of elements collection and stones
You're right.....it's a place to get away and surround yourself with the things you love.

Omax fe357 So I have a question that I've asked other people from Philly. (and I'm not picking a fight, It's just a legitimate Question I have cause I'm confused) In Boston we have cheese steak but they make it different , like with quality steak and real cheese shaved off a block of cheese. I went to Philly and we stopped at two different places. One place used meat that had the taste and consistency of frozen steak-ems that you buy in the frozen section of your supermarket. and the other place we went to had steak but it was grizzly low grade meat. But both places used cheese-wiz ! WTF ? You can smell the chemical processed stink without even tasting it. We couldn't even finish either of them . And here is the kicker ! both places asked us if we wanted marinara sauce on them....WTF again? on a cheese steak? Is this a thing? And this was after asking people where the best food places were. Being from Boston, And the new England area, And traveling to New York, Maine, and other parts of the country, And becoming a food snob "FOODIE" most places out side of the upper east coast ,.....well, just sucks, It's about 20% good food, And 70% Mc'Donalds quality of food. and ten % is just "MEH" the wife and I spent a few days in New York city pigging out and didn't find one bad restaurant. The food everywhere was like amazing but in Philly it was like eating at Wendy's . It filled your belly, but you felt bad after for eating it. Did we just not find the good places or is that's just what people are use to. I've got a buddy that moved to North Carolina and says the same thing. they wouldn't know a good pizza if it fell on them and the roast beef sandwiches are over cooked and gray and no good , they are suppose to be red and bloody ! they think Arby's is great ! I've got a friend in Arizona and everything is done Tex-mex style...Everything! all the food has that weird twang. the wife couldn't wait to get home. so that's my question, did we just miss the boat in Philly? and should we give it a second chance? just food thought. wait... isn't this a watch channel? what time is it? I need to eat.

I'm loving that you're loving Philly. I lived there until I was 18, when I moved to the Poconos and got married. 35 years later that's where I still live, but I'm in Philly every year to visit my family. Go Eagles! (Rough year though). Keep the great content coming!

Fantastic, and as usual inspired me to search and learn 😊. Next time you’re in the UK you should visit (if you haven’t already) the Aerospace museum at Filton. I went last week specifically to see Concorde Alpha Foxtrot, the final Concorde to be built and the last to fly. It’s an incredible experience.
A book or model would also fit perfectly within your war room 👌🏼
Speaking of books, you probably know these books, but I like Connell & Constable’s Sacrilege and Redemption in Renaissance Florence and Ciarleglio’s Strolling through Florence. This latter book is so wonderful. It tells you all the “little” stories of Florence, like explaining street names and the football field mark.

I am a terrible but dedicated chess player. I couldn't believe I hadn't seen the video you did on chess (nice set by the way.) As soon as I finished this video, I ran off and found the chess one. Enjoyed both, and I couldn't agree more. Chess is the perfect mental exercise. To live well you must tend to your body, mind and spirit. They are connected and when one is neglected the others suffer. It's clear from your success that you understand this. Congratulations on your move, and continued success TGV.
