There is nothing like a Grand Seiko. The finishing of hands and dial are unmatched in that price category. Japanese craftsmanship at its finest. And the second sweep of the spring drive is so smooth. Congrats John, what an amazing watch.

Congratulations, I have owned my GS for six years, still looks new as the polishing seems to avoid scratches and it still maintains factory accuracy. A gem of a watch, best expensive watch purchase I have ever made! Oh, and you will never tire of how the hands and indicies sparkle when they catch the light!

Stunningly beautiful piece. Congratulations John! I recently purchased the Shunbun spring drive from the 4 seasons collection and it’s become a favorite along with my JLC Master Moon.
Grand Seiko gives you Patek quality at a great price. We purchase these pieces because we enjoy and admire their beauty and technical sophistication. Like audio and music and wine, I never buy thinking “investment” or “resale value”. I buy because it touches me emotionally and brings me joy. I suspect you do as well. Enjoy!

Ha ha, congratulations and welcome to the club! I have mine with 9S movement in black dial for over twenty years when it still say Seiko on top and Grand Seiko bottom. I love it so much I purchased the quartz in white version much later. My next one if ever back in Japan would be the SBGW231 dress watch. To me GS are truly heirloom pieces but if I ever win the lotto I'm getting the Credor Eichi

I'm not into audio stuff, i came for the watch, and what a watch. Wow. Beautifully shot too. As a sidenote the music really adds to the video so i guess you know your stuff when it comes to audio. Congratulations on an excellent timepiece.

I have to say, I can’t believe the number of negative comments on something that is a high point in John’s watch collecting and is hard earned. If you don’t like watches then you should have skipped this video. For me I love videos from John on his other passions. Not only is it interesting it gives even more dimension to the man. He makes extraordinary speakers of very high quality that are removed from so much of the normal dross out there, it makes so much sense to me the man would own a Grand Seiko, another brand that sets its own course far more interesting than the usual suspect watches

Out of this world. Simply the finest watchmaker in Japan. Way beyond the Swiss except for some details in movement finishing, but they are certainly catching up! GS use a combination of machine and hand finishing and of course are all hand made. Stunning work of art.

Love Seiko divers, but I'm not a GS guy. I've always been surprised I don't run into more hifi guys who are watch guys. It seems like a good fit. High-end car guys are watch guys, high-end gun guys are really watch guys. But hifi guys, not so much.

    • @DeVOREFIDELITY

I hope the high end gun guys take their good watches off when they shoot. That kind of shock is rough on mechanical movements.
Of course H-Shock has some interesting/pricey models, and Grand Seiko has a ruggedized quartz watch made to their high standard.

Ignore the naysayers. The irony is lost on them that an appreciation of watches is no different to an appreciation of hifi: it's all completely unnecessary, mostly expensive 'stuff' but both give us immense pleasure in our ownership.

"THINK DIFFERENT" is not correct English. 'Think' is a verb so 'different' (being an adverb) should be changed to 'differently'. (if I remember 7th-grade grammar). Playing boring music doesn't make the watch worth more.
