As a band student, this show hurts in the best ways.
We had a band director who was just like theirs, and he tried to make our band better, but we didn't listen. Nowadays I look back and regret the way I acted around him. It was stupid honestly.
Plus the best part is the entire band ignoring the percussion cause they know how to handle themselves. that happens so often its hilarious.
Man, I love this show. It makes me want to get into a band in college again but due to reasons I can't do it.

Any flaws this show has are forgiven with its amazing art, cinematography, and god tier character writing. I remember when kumiko catches natsuki practicing we both had the exact reaction. Her arc from aloof / not caring about band to being a core part of it was inspiring as someone who was very similar to her and decided to take life more serious and be more present in life. I also loved the mizore arc because it leads into what might be my favorite film.
They did such a good job of making every single character so alive it really builds on the character writing mastery shows like k on laid out. Also that Barry sax solo

As a former band geek myself, this show of course very much resonates with me. Many of the emotions, drama, and the joys of being in a concert band are portrayed very well and realistically in this show. What made it really resonate with me was the main cast played instruments in a section I was in. I was a tuba player and seeing how they portray its role in the ensemble and the joy of playing it was truly awesome. The characters were very vibrant and realistic, the animation was absolutely out of this world, and the soundtrack is truly a gem. Definitely one of my most favorite anime shows of all time

I just finished watching the entire Sound! Euphonium series and boy was I blown away! I have been bingeing all of Kyoto Animation Studio's for the past few months now and next to Violet Evergarden this was my favorite anime production of theirs. From the absolutely gorgeous visuals that are near theatrical quality to the many nuanced and complex character interactions, this series is a freaking masterpiece. I was completely sucked into the world of an afterschool music club and was very impressed with the impeccable attention to detail when it came to the instuments and how each section works in harmony with the next to create an amzing ensemble experience. I also enjoyed the massive amounts of character development on display for the entire main cast as this is some of the most realistic depictions of the highschool experience I have ever seen in an anime. Now I am awaiting season 3 with much anticipation as I cannot wait to return to the music room once again to watch a certain Euphonium player deal with her daily struggles to move forward and improve not only her playing ability, but also her ability to shorten the distance she inadvertently places between herself and those around her

Not only are the visuals absolutely gorgeous to look at but the characters are just as compelling to watch. I always can spot a special anime series when I totally lose myself while watching. I literally stayed up to 5 am the first night I began this series it was so compelling. I just finished watching this show yesterday and it's a shame that I have not started this show earlier. Everything you've said took almost all the words right out of my mouth, from how well the characters are in the show to how beautiful, how harmonious the music in this show. However, there is also another point that made me like this show even more.
Normally, sport shows, or any shounen show that delves into stories that has competitions, tend to have the trope of having enemies, not just rivals. It is the trope where, for example, the enemy school team sabotages, make bad remarks for the sake of making bad remarks etc. However, Hibike! Euphonium is not the same. Since I do not participate in any clubs that have competitions besides my personal hobby of speedcubing, what I say might be inaccurate, but I don't think these kinds of enemies relationship between different schools, teams and what not are very common in real life.
Hibike! Euphonium did something different (well to me anyways), it showed us the dramas that happen *within* the band/club itself. There were no deliberate attempts to bring the entire band down from other parties just to win. Like I said before, I didn't participate in anything like this in my 12 years of primary and secondary school, that being said, I was still able to envision something like this happen in real life too. The dramas that happened in the show were realistic to me, and I was somehow able to relate myself to it and be enthralled by the show. And from this video, I like the way you describe and analysed the dramas, you were able to describe what the show was trying to deliver. No wonder that one friend of mine is very enthusiastic about Hibike! Euphonium, I now know why.
Thank you for this wonderful video. It was a nice watch though I was very late to the _band_ :p

K-ON is my favorite anime in the world. I love Kyoto Animation, and K-ON has always held a special place in my heart for being the piece of media I love the most. The thing about that is I never actually watched *all* of K-ON. I watched most of it, but not all of it, yet and still I felt a sense of completion and readiness to move on to the next show after finishing each snippet. I didnt feel the need for anything more, and I *LOVE* it. But with Sound Euphonium, I was the exact opposite. I forced myself to watch all of it and with the more I watched, it felt like the more I lost, as in I only wanted more despite hating it so much. I'd literally continue my day or go to bed after watching one episode and it would haunt me for the rest of my week, with my brain craving more of it, the characters (even the ones I hate,) the soundtrack, the dialog, the art... Sound Euphonium is addictive and beautiful. There is never a point since I finished it that I *didn't* feel like watching it all over again. It's just too great.

@@tytolley2645 In regards to having to suspend disbelief to get into, I disagree since it was very easy for me to get into Violet Evergarden. Much easier than getting into Hibike, though that might be because I've never actually been in a club and haven't been invested in something to the same extent, so I found it difficult to relate to the characters in Hibike. Also I think part of the reason I love violet evergarden so much(it's my 2nd fav kyoani series behind Clannad) is because it's so unlike anything else that kyoani has made and feels more mature(not really the right word but the best I can think of rn) in a way.
