"The euphonium represents the image of her sister she held so tightly [Kumiko looks at her reflection on her euphonium], and Kumiko doesn't want to let that go [Kumiko brings her euphonium closer to her]" (2:06-2:11) ~ editing on point *applause*
Hibike! Euphonium is such an important show to me, I love it with all my heart. I couldn't stop crying when the news hit the other day. Please consider donating if you haven't already: www.gofundme.com/f/help-kyoani-heal/donate
Chandler yes but not everybody digs deeper and sees things they put thought into that aren't obvious. A lot of people look only on the surface of things
"No matter how cold and distant people may become, on the inside something warm and precious always remains, something that never changes. To me, that’s what family is like." -Sakagaki Tomoyo, Clannad.
I really love your insight on anime. Especially with Kyoto Animation. Everything you say about them speaks to mind and is why they are my favorite anime studio.
While I agree with your general conclusion on the Hibike! section, I think you are missing an important detail. Kumiko never wanted to play euphonium, she wanted to play trombone (like Mamiko), but the band needed bass players. So, her saying that she loves euphonium may be read (in first season) as a rejection of Mamiko and acceptance of herself as her own person/musician. Then in the second season, when Mamiko comes to listen to Kumiko's performance, this phrase transforms to include liking euphonium because all the growth Kumiko experienced while playing it helped her to re-establish rapport with Mamiko, in other words, it comes to mean: "I like Euphonium because it brought us together again." In your video, as I feel, you skip right to the second interpretation of the phrase. The issue is that before the first "I love euphonium" the instrument is better read as representing not Kumiko's love for Mamiko, but Kumiko's perceived failure to live up to her constructed image of Mamiko. I find it quite refreshing to see that the show changes the meanings of its symbols as it goes, and I think it's something worth noting in an analysis video. Otherwise, keep up the good job!
Ah yes I hope more people see it, somehow the western community seemed to totally miss it, the gap between the attention it gets and the amount of attention it would have been able to hold is crazy
KyoAni gave us so much. For years they've made me laugh, and cry, and view the world with new wonder like a certain overly hyper high school girl. I can't believe what has happened to them. A huge part of my world has been lost. I wish I could tell those who were lost how much their work impacted the life of someone a world away. From the bottom of me heart, I love you, KyoAni.
In the wake of recent events. All I can feel is grief and gratitude. When I needed them most, it was KyoAni who reminded me of family....but their family is suffering. My donations, condolences, and gratitude go out to KyoAni and the affected families.
I cried at the end of hibike euphonium season 2's episode 12. I'm also a younger sibling who deeply admires her older sister and it made me burst into tears at their confession of feelings on the bridge
Yeah man, I fall under the "family you make" category. I always felt like an outcast with my blood. But I have found 4 "brothers" in my best friends. However I am ashamed that I never took a look at the family theme outside of Clannad and K-On!. I'll have to do some rewatches thanks to this.
I wanna tell you thank you and that watching this three years back really interested me and opened my eyes to seeing things in the way you do. It was great help for me and I really enjoy it That’s why I remembered it as clearly as to be able to return here and identify the video. I remembered the scene you showed from Sound Euphonium
i feel like crying every time i listen to your videos especially this 3 videos how we communicate/how warm it sounds/ family matters when i feel like lost i always listen to these 3 videos I thank you for creating these videos since it saved me and improved me both at the same time its because how i can relate to those stories and how you especially explain it
I can't speak for others - but as the parent of adopted children, I must say that this is an extremely well done video with true attention to the broader meaning of family. Splendid. Thank you.
This video means a lot to me as my youngest sister moved out of our parent's house after graduating from college and getting her dream job in July. Now, My mother is suffering from "empty nest syndrome" and she keeps saying how empty the house seems these days now all her children have moved out. (I'm the eldest of 5 sisters) Her family was her whole world and while we were all going to grow up and move out some day it's still sad to see my mother so melancholic about the whole thing. We all promised to come back home for Thanksgiving and Christmas and that cheered her up no end because that's what family is for :) Another amazing video UTS, you are a criminally underrated anime RUclipsr! Keep up the great work man!
Saw this in public. Tried not to cry. Was relatively unsuccessful. I admire your work so much, you add a level of personal touch to art that resonates sooo deeply. You are awesome. Like, awesome awesome
the way taki-sesneis past is told in hibike makes me so sad...the ep where kumiko meets taki-sensei in the storm and the conversation they have is so well done, it almsot made me tear up it was so damn good
Ahh. Your point on Hibike! Euphonium hit it. That unveiling of the siblings' relationship and how real these characters are is a large part of why I completely fell in love with this anime.
Having recently watched Tamako Love Story, the ending made me shed a tear. Seriously, ending your video with such a great conclusion and with Koi no uta was very well done! And the rest of your video was at the same level of quality. I love Kyoani's work and you are describing why I love their work so well that I am loving Kyoani even more x). I have recently discovered your channel but the quality you are putting in your videos is rare to see on RUclips. Continue your videos you've gained a new sub :D
broo i love Sound! Euphonium so much i feel sooo slow cus i just recently found out about the anime and i was just sucked in to it and me being a tuba player this really hit me i wish i could have seen the movie tho
For me, this one of the most chill, thoughtful and relaxing videos that I have seen this year. You have very fine and compelling way to express you thought's and ideas and it made me open my eyes a bit more to what a family is, or should at least be. That may sound strange but I am someone who have for a very long period of time been locking myself away from almost everybody in my life, including my family, the very people I live with, and I have only just recently been beginning to truly open myself to more people again. So to see someone thoughtfully and skillfully talk about the very close and timid relationship you have with you family and why and how that is importen gave a very varm and cosy feeling.
Your section on Dragon Maid was really beautiful!! " it doesn't exaggerate their relationship, but normalizes it." You hit the nail on the head. that is definitely one of the greatest aspects of the series and why I love it so much. Fantastic writing.
every video you upload gets better and better I just cant help getting impressed every time I see them, I can also relate to this considering I'm from 8 siblings (4th) and to me my older brother and sisters were the world to me and still are even after years of them moving on with their life, and now I am that very thing to my younger siblings and the time I spend with them is irreplaceable. Keep up the good work
I just love your optimistic vibe, truly making me smile while beautifully giving off your points. Keep up the great work, I and many others really love it.
I LOVE your channel man. I wish we could evaluate Anime or Manga as a class similar to what is done in Language Arts/English class. It's a beautiful medium and Under the Scope has obviously shown the depth that can be found in Anime. Keep it up!!!
Your videos always manage to bring the feels right back out of me when analyzing my favorite shows. The effort really shows and your view on family is very relatable. Thanks for the great content. That's why you are the best anituber out there!
I always look forward to your analyses - not just for the insight on the anime industry, genres or its art; I feel like a wiser and kinder person afterwards. Thank you =]
This is extremely well done. I randomly stumbled on this video and I watched it from beginning to end because it was fascinating, even though I have not watched any anime you used as examples. Your explanation is wonderful, drawing on both the characters and the world, and paints a compelling picture of the animes as a whole. Glad I found this video, now I have one great channel and three animes to watch in the future.
+Under The Scope I have to admit that I find this extremely touching and perfectly represents what Kyoto probably wanted to express in these shows with the theme of family. Could you cover Tezuka Productions and Osamu Tezuka's habit of covering some pretty strong themes in his work like racism and prejudice towards other in Astro Boy, sexism in Princess Knight, maturity in Marvelous Melmo, and showing respect and kindness to everyone in Black Jack?
I came here just as the christmas parties comes to an end, and the familiar feelig of being surrounding of the people you care (either by birth or choosen) is bigger. This video warms my heart
There's another studio that also places focus on family, though not to the same extent as KyoAni: P.A. Works. Hanasaku Iroha, Eccentric Family, Sakura Quest, Nagi no Asukara and, to a lesser extent, Kuromukuro, have family as one of their important elements.
What's so sad about this video is that 2 years after this video was made one of KyoAni's studios was burned down by an arson attack. 33 people died in the attack. It's almost like the 33 employees were like a ''family'', the meaning of this video. Looking back to the attack 6 months later still makes me want to support them and make their ''family'' stronger. Please do your best to support them.
I love you’re videos, can’t think of many other channels that respect and talk about the storytelling in anime. Would love to see you do a ranking of all the Kyo ani shows so far
A while ago I'd started writing a piece about how Clannad's different characters and their experiences reflect my own interactions with my family...something which I wholeheartedly plan to finish once university exams are over. But I really enjoyed your looking into some of the other shows they've done and how individual ones perspective of family can be represented, topped off by your top notch editing and scripting.
Dude,I have never seen these anime, yet you explained it so masterfully, that I almost let a tear roll when the two sisters spoke at the end,you really grasp the essence of what you see, great job.
I love how hard you work for doing amazing content. The part i love the most is how objective you're when it comes to analyze things. This is like the stuff we needed but didn't know we needed.
ending on "Dakedo" ruined my heart As someone who doesnt have anyone or thing she can call family, listening to this put the thought of "ill have one, one day" in my head. So far, at 19, im my own family. and have been for a while. its one of the reasons why i love maid dragon so much! the hope that even though i have no person or home, that a family can be built one day.
I don’t comment on RUclips videos at all anymore, just watching to pass time, but this video was so good and is on a topic I love and covers anime by my favorite studio, so I just wanna say this was awesome and I’ll gladly sub to see more like this in the future :)
I was expecting this video to be about Clannad (for obvious reasons) but damn, it still delivered. KyoAni really knows their stuff when it comes to togetherness and emotions
"The euphonium represents the image of her sister she held so tightly [Kumiko looks at her reflection on her euphonium], and Kumiko doesn't want to let that go [Kumiko brings her euphonium closer to her]" (2:06-2:11)

Cmae here after the kyoani burning rest in peace to those that are affected this really brings me great pains in my heart
same
Hibike! Euphonium is such an important show to me, I love it with all my heart.
I couldn't stop crying when the news hit the other day.
Please consider donating if you haven't already: www.gofundme.com/f/help-kyoani-heal/donate
@@stonecat676 already did with 300$ but I know, the money i donated wasn't enough to help them😢
I'll just pray for them..
I just love to know there is an anime youtuber with both the sensibility to notice and the ability to explain the subtle greatness of KyoAni.
Digo Moribayashi i agree completely with you
Same.
"subtle"? they're Kyoto Animation, everyone knows about them.
Chandler yes but not everybody digs deeper and sees things they put thought into that aren't obvious. A lot of people look only on the surface of things
I will hold this video dear, as it speaks from the heart.

This guy is the "Every Frame a Painting" of anime. So good
I forgot just how touching Sound Euphonium's realism is, I'm in tears after this scene of them you put
Is it ok im getting a little teary eyed?
Don't worry its just the onions
It's k I'm very teary eyed as well mate, I feel ya
this aged kinda well, huh? because i’m doing that right now.
10:56 "The people who may not support every decision you make, but will never stop supporting you." Wow, you couldn't have phrased it better
Oh man, i really need to see Hibike Euphonium. Those scenes you showed really hit home for me
Excellent video as always.
「Loru Apollo」 dude, same!
Same way too relatable.
「Loru Apollo」 It's a surprisingly emotional anime. I cried in the end without even knowing why.
some asian guy same. It's relatable
Ah yes I hope more people see it, somehow the western community seemed to totally miss it, the gap between the attention it gets and the amount of attention it would have been able to hold is crazy

shit. this was good. You spent some really solid time finding the proper scenes! must have taken a long time to do ! *applause*

i love under the scope the way that they let everyone the actual meaning of the anime
One of these days I'm gonna watch every KyoAni show, they deserve that attention.
Your videos give me life honestly, and you keep improving your content. This and the Naoko Yamada analysis are my favourites of your work as of yet!

My eyes were sweating on the Hibike! Euphonium part. That was beautiful.
I came here just as the christmas parties comes to an end, and the familiar feelig of being surrounding of the people you care (either by birth or choosen) is bigger. This video warms my heart
Brilliantly done, makes me wonder what ideas are still lurking because this one hit me hard
Thank you UTS. This is literally why I got into anime and I love this video.
im sad because you only upload every few weeks but im happy about how good your videos are when they finally come out
KyoAni is one big happy amazing family of an anime studio
I really like your perspective on these animes. I hope you make one someday on k-on
There's another studio that also places focus on family, though not to the same extent as KyoAni: P.A. Works.
Hanasaku Iroha, Eccentric Family, Sakura Quest, Nagi no Asukara and, to a lesser extent, Kuromukuro, have family as one of their important elements.
This song still makes me cry holy shit. Koi no uta is one of my favorite songs from anime ever

this hit so hard that it made me cry. i dont even know why.
What a great and meaning driven video. Your voice is very soothing and "real", it accompanies the videos tone well.
i just found your channel and i love everything on it.
This video essay is very well made. thank you for doing this!
This another beautiful video from you! Also, this is like the first time I’m one of the first comments to one of my favorite RUclipsrs!

What a great video. I love how KyoAni treats relationships.
Keep up the good work! I'm always on the edge of tears when watching your videos. I relive the experiences I hold dearly through them
ending on "Dakedo" ruined my heart

fantastic video, lovely editing dude
I missed Hibike!Euphonium so much. Unashamed about how I teared up while watching that bit of your video. Great job.
Great analysis, editing, and audio mixing. Just subscribed.
The heck?! I'm in tears again when you put those clips of Hibike in there...dangit! ;-;
Kyoani: the family we lost.
man your videos are allways TOP QUALITY. keep it up
You Sir are amazing! Please keep up the good work!

Insta-favorited. Absolutely fantastic video idea and execution. Keep up the great work!
I cried...
