    It is right that the Irish Govenerment has appologised and yes they should be made to pay to each and all of the victims of this abuse, but what of the Roman Catholic church who's nuns ran these laundries, they should be made to pay a dam sight more, and people should be held to account for this abuse. Not even a sorry from their lips have been said!

      The taxpayer should not have to pay for this.

      The tax payers Pardon me conspired with the church and state , and the state imprisoned the victims there
      Same as nazi Germany
      At least the Germans apologised
      The Irish people have not
      Completely are complicite with the abuse
      Sex was sinful
      Mental institutions full of unfortunate coming to terms with this denial
      Some country
      Shame

    my dads mom was locked in one of these vile institutions for a long time. my dad born in 1934, sold on to another family. when he tried to get his mother released was told she couldnt leave as only her mother and sister signed her in and they were the only ones who could sign her out. THE CATHOLIC CHURCH need to release records, and admit their wrong doing. absolutely sick. my dad never got to know his mom, he doesnt know who his dad is as she was placed in there and gave birth to a girl first, so how did my dad get conceived if she couldnt leave. vile priests....

      The church has hidden this, as other abuse, behind the name of God. Shameful.

    It would seem that most folks believe that these places only existed in Ireland. NOT SO THEY WERE WORLDWIDE! I spent two and a half years in one such place - The Convent of the Good Shepherd, Lichfield Hall, in Blackley, Manchester. It was horrendous. It was not a 'mother and baby' home at that time (1966-68), but an institution incarcerating young teenage girls who were in the 'care system' for a variety of reasons. At that time the Social/Child Welfare Services never inspected the places where children/ teens were dumped, hence so much 'historic abuse' now coming to light. There will never be an apology or any form recompense for those of us outside of Ireland.

    When I watched the movie the Magdalen Sister's and seen all these girls went through I felt so sorry for them. I was happy to see some escape and wished they all could. I can't stand the nun's to this day and wish evil upon them.

      .....And wish evil on the nuns.....Yes, I do too, especially one named Sister Imelda, why, she was so rude to me on a few occasions and has now died, I'm pleased to say.....And yes, I hope she ended her days in hell.....(And incidentally, I am a practising Catholic, even though I say that and stick by what I said.....She was one evil woman.)

      Considering the last laundry closed in 1996 and most of the nuns were at least middle aged, safe to say nearly all are now dead. What a miscarriage of justice.

      Find the EXACT women ( not really nuns!) and make them take full responsibility. Psych cases they were, and evil!

  • @rachelwilson119
    @rachelwilson119 10 лет назад +13

    I don't believe any apology from the nuns

    • @elizabethsheffield6609
      @elizabethsheffield6609 7 лет назад +4

      no - because all their lies & cruelty would have been absolved everytime they went to 'Confession'! The chief priest or holy mother would have told them to say 3/4/5 (or any number of) 'Hail Marys' and their consciences would be free of guilt anyway!
      This criminality Is what the church in Rome condones in the name of God - but ordinary criminals AT LEAST admit to what they are and do.
      Those sadistic and sexually frustrated 'women' were free to repeat the abuse as soon as they stepped out of the Confessional box.

    The most astonishing and disgusting part of the whole Magdalene Laundry story to me, is the total acceptance of these evil institutions by the WHOLE IRISH POPULATION AND FAMILIES OF THOSE POOR WOMEN. I just cannot comprehend how any parent could banish and condemn their own child to such a place and fate, for the 'crime' of becoming pregnant or getting raped. How can a whole country be so wicked and cruel? That is the biggest shock and tragedy to me....the fact the whole entire country was in on it and supported this evil regime.
