I used to buy lightly foundered ponies at auctions and rehab them as pets, racehorse companions, and gently used cart ponies. While they were in recovery I often taught them little tricks to occupy their minds. Things like "counting" by pawing the ground, head nods and shakes, kisses, playing dead, bowing, whatever wasn't too strenuous for them. There was a barn cat at a barn I boarded at. She was old, but she also had developed malformed front legs from jumping down from on top of the tack lockers for 15-20 years. She was old!!
For a working barn cat in Montana I consider her "old" it is a hard life with alot of risks. When she starts slowing down she will get to be a house cat and will likely live to 20!
My current little furry fiend is nearly 14 and going fine. My last two cats made it to 18 but both had serious illness in their last year, one heart, one kidneys. Like most British cats, they spent a lot of time outdoors and sometimes got takeaways: the first specialised in baby rabbits, while the current incumbent prefers baby rats.
I was thinking about a talking board for him. You know, the ones that dogs and cats are using to communicate in a human language? Check out Bunny the Talking Dog for a great example and a window into this fascinating movement. People with parrots are using iPads with picture and words and even teaching them to call up their bird friends who live in different places so they can have company when their owners are at work. There's even a cow who, last I checked, had a few buttons she used: brush, treat, and blanket. Skeletor might find this challenging enough to keep him busy for a few minutes!
@@randomvielleuse527That’s a great idea! Maybe mount them on the wall instead of the ground to get him to press them with his muzzle so they survive horsey contact 🤔 Would love to see a horse talk like Bunny & all the other animals who’ve learnt to talk with buttons.
@@TheCleverCowgirlI wonder if you can make horse puzzles? I know they make them for dogs - I bought my dog a couple where he has to open drawers to get treats & “unlock” them by taking out a bone peg so he can open the drawer. He’s a bit of a boof though, so figured out he can get the drawers unlocked & semi open by picking up the toy with his teeth & dropping it lol. So definitely has to be tough to survive horsey cunning & cheekiness

It's scary to think of them slipping on ice and breaking a bone, too. 😬 Most horse people in MA prefer indoor rings all year round just because of the daily weather changes.

Skelatore has the best sense of humor I've seen in a horse. He is so playful. Im glad your channel is growing. Your stories are interesting, and i learn something with every one. Loving your videos CCG, I find I get more done when watching you work. And your voice is so soothing.. when I need to nap, they make me feel so relaxed.
I just love your videos! Please make more, as everything you make is very interesting!! Skeletor might be my favorite, at the moment, as he is a sweetie and has a sense of fun.💖 🥰 Perhaps Skelly (I don't care for his name as it continues the spector of his former life, before you saved him). Perhaps Skelly could watch horse videos -- of himself and others -- on You Tube if he has to be on stall rest. He could also have some of his hay in a net hanging from the door frame as he'll have to work to get it. I saw this on This Esme on YT when her horse had to be on stall rest. The mare, Prim, is also a lovely girl, and someone has to stick up for the females, don't they -- and she can untie and open a gate, clever girl!! ❤️🥰 Longest comment to date. Many thanks, CCG. xx
The funniest video I ever saw was a horse playing with a rubber chicken. The squeaking! Cracks me up every time. Perhaps Skeletor might enjoy his own squeaky toys. 😄
Just like kids huh? There's always "that one". They are so funny with all their personalities. Never a dull moment I'm sure! I'm so glad you share them with us! Montana looks gorgeous! One of my daughter's lived there while her husband was in the Air Force. Unfortunatley we were not able to visit from Georgia. They were not there too long, but said it was beautiful! You are such a hard worker! I"m sure the horses love you so much too! Even when they act up lol. Just like kids, how fun they must be! Thanks for sharing❤

Oh dear; I need to tell you: cats are more than capable of living 20+ years - 7 or 8 isn't even middle age. Most vets will say that they're old at 12, but I think that's largely based on outdoor cats, whose average lifespan is 2-5 years. Indoor cats average 12-16 years and in my years in pet supply I encountered a lot of people who had cats who were 18-20, and once a client claimed hers was 25. So Tiny is doing great for an outdoor cat but... maybe when she slows down more retire her inside, and consider monthly anti-arthritus shots if you can? When I was a vet assistant I was told that by 12 most kitties habe arthritis from all their acrobatics in their youth. Anyway, I adore your videos and I adore cats, so... just mentioning those lifespan stats anyway. Thank you for your work.❤
Mark me down as another who would love to know more about extreme cold weather care. 😃 As a side note, I think it is pretty awesome the money you bring into your local thrift stores. Profit they would otherwise lose out on by shipping clothes to become rags. Then taking that money to put back into your local economy. All while rescuing animals. Very inspiring! 👍 Hardest working people I've ever known are entrepreneurs.
Skeletor reminds me of a heart horse. With the right owner he’ll be a keeper for life. He would do well with dressage training when he’s older and healed up and strong
I love Skeletor ....and it's nice for you to have a horse that really likes to be around you . And as I was a teen-horsey girl , I could have played with him for hours every day .. Even if he can never be ridden , he is such a fun horse to have around !
Skeletor is a very fickle kind of horse!! He likes everything his own way!! He likes to be the center of attention!! He wants to be king of the road!! Just keep giving him some time, he will eventually come back to himself!! My Uncle had that same problem and his horse learned the hard way, now he is a much happy equine!! Just Keep The Faith!! He will be just fine!!😊
Just like some classic semi-wild teenager! They push and push and push the boundaries of what is acceptable until they grow up and mature or they learn a really sharp series of lessons. My son, who is a farrier with his own business, says that some horses, like some owners, have no manners when it comes to acceptable behaviour.
Great work with the horses! I would have loved to work with horses but life took me in a different direction. Seeing you work and triumph over the challenges feeds my soul. Thanks!
If skeletor needs stall rest, there are two drugs work well to mildly sedate a horse on stall rest. Sorry i don't know the names of the drugs. I just read a discussion on a fb horse group i am a member of. Love your mini stallion!
I know the ones! I try to stay away from them due to the side effects. I typically will do alot of hand walking instead which is time consuming but totally worth it!

I can't wait to watch more of your videos. Keep up the good work! Our temps are dropping tonight in single digits and below zero. Put a blanket on my horse for the first time tonight. Can you tell me more about the mash you make for the horses when it's cold? Thank you!

Such challenges. I do not have horses. Have enough experience around them to know the amount of work and thought involved. Amazing all you do. Thank you for rescuing Skeletor looks so healthy now. I hope the lameness is easily resolved.
Ms. Clever, you have been around this "horse business" long enough to know one great big truth. Lots of people are threatened by smart horses. Smart horses look you in the eye. They have wit. They do funny things to get a reaction for humans and other horses. Smarties figure out how to do amazing, irritating things, like opening stall and barn doors and to let other barn mates out to mess up the barn. For humans with no wit, no sense of humor and less than stellar intelligence smart horses must be broken. Starvation counts toward "breaking" the spirit and the smarts of most animals. It works on humans frequently. But I bet it didn't work on Skeletor. You saw he still had it in his eye and behavior at the auction yard. He was still willing to associate with humans! Thank goodness you are a woman of wit who isn't afraid of a challenge from a horse with brains and a sense of humor! Skeletor got so lucky to encounter you instead of some dim witted buyer who can't tolerate a beast smarter than himself on his property. You really want to cure his boredom? Get him hooked on crossword puzzles. Obsession will stop his fun loving ways. Or get him some mirror cloth for the paddock. It might scare him straight into leaving the others alone. He will meet the HORSE-ZILLA in the mirror. Would he turn into a red roan from fright? Never let Prim around Skeletor or he will catch all her wicked ways like a disease. Skeletor will find some funny way to do something weird to any he victim he can find with that new salt block. I can't wait to see just what! I always wanted my horses to be smarter than me. It taught me to be a better more humble person. Another wonderful video, Ms. Clever and I do appreciate your dealing with the cold in order to do your videos.
I'd like to see your winter routine. I had a friend who went to work in Red Deer, Alberta and he sent me photos of his neighbour's quarter horses out in what looked to me like YARDS depth of snow. Put me right off visiting, poor man thought the horses would tempt me! I can't imagine that it would really be much worse than the months of near-constant mud and wet I'm more used to, though - just very different!
Yes love hearing about winter storm prep, supplements and products you use on your horses. I sent you a TS gift card tonight for all your hard work and sharing. 🥰

…I am in Seattle. We had a huge windstorm all day Tuesday, and have a 4 day snow and cold storm coming, starting on Friday. It is rarely in the teens here, so I’m not looking forward to that. It will probably work its way towards Montana. Yes, please film your storm and farm chores. 😁 Some lucky person will want to purchase the beautiful, elegant Primrose. 🌾 🐴 🌺
I really enjoy your channel. You are so unpretentious and love your horses so much and take such goodvcare of them. I really enjoy getting to know them more. Skelatore has the best sense of humor I've seen in a horse. He is so playful. Im glad your channel is growing. Your stories are interesting, and i learn something with every one. I love horses, but I've never been around them much, so i vicariously enjoy the life through your stories.
Loving your videos CCG, I find I get more done when watching you work. And your voice is so soothing.. when I need to nap, they make me feel so relaxed.
I just love your videos! Please make more, as everything you make is very interesting!!
Skeletor might be my favorite, at the moment, as he is a sweetie and has a sense of fun.💖 🥰
Perhaps Skelly (I don't care for his name as it continues the spector of his former life, before you saved him).
Perhaps Skelly could watch horse videos -- of himself and others -- on You Tube if he has to be on stall rest.
He could also have some of his hay in a net hanging from the door frame as he'll have to work to get it. I saw this on
This Esme on YT when her horse had to be on stall rest.
The mare, Prim, is also a lovely girl, and someone has to stick up for the females, don't they -- and she can untie and open a gate, clever girl!! ❤️🥰
Longest comment to date.
Many thanks, CCG. xx
The videos are beautiful & the scenery breathtaking especially with the horses. ❤❤❤❤
I love Tiny 😻😻😻 what a great and beautiful kitty
The funniest video I ever saw was a horse playing with a rubber chicken. The squeaking! Cracks me up every time. Perhaps Skeletor might enjoy his own squeaky toys. 😄
OMG! Im sure he would play with one if I got one for him!
I'm interested in seeing your Montana winterizing method.
My friend had a warm blood saddle bread mix. He was funny crazy. very very affectionate. 🤗
whoever chooses the music on your videos- I adore him/her for that! such a sense of humor to pick the right music for every situation, especially the funny ones :-) :-) thaaaaaank youuuuu
i am waving to all of you from Germany
I do all the editing myself ❤️
congratulation!!@@TheCleverCowgirl
The snow is AMAZING.....BEAUTIFUL.
But COLD COLD COLD.
The horses are loved.
Even the weirdo❤😂
I've never seen a horse play like this!!! Love it ❤, 😀 ❤😊

I hope skellator is ok .
Hes a funny horse .fun to watch ." Come on lets play come on .
Take care .the view was beautiful with all the ❄️ .snow .
We would love to see how you navigate the brutal temps. Also would love to learn how you determine if the horses are warm enough with their winter coats or if they need blankets.
It is amazing to see how he loves to play with the tumbleweeds!
❤️this update on your day with the horses 🐎 Yes would like to see how you prepare for that zero 0️⃣ degree weather. Thank you!
Nigel is just an ornery old man, he reminds me of the character that Walter Matthau played in Grumpy Old Men. Loved that movie and just love Nigel. Thank you for rescuing him and giving him the best rest of his life.
Love your videos. You’ve got that special something with horses and it’s sweet to watch. Blessings!
As a side note, I think it is pretty awesome the money you bring into your local thrift stores. Profit they would otherwise lose out on by shipping clothes to become rags. Then taking that money to put back into your local economy. All while rescuing animals. Very inspiring! 👍
Hardest working people I've ever known are entrepreneurs.
Montana! Brrr... I'm shivering here in Georgia at the mere thought. Think I'll go turn up the heat.
Great video and I am so glad you are really good in taking care of your horses, thanks.!!!!
I love Skeletor-he's so beautiful and what a beautiful spirit! I would LOVE to have a horse like him some day.
Great video! Thank you!
Skeletor looks like he’d love to learn tricks. He’s obviously a very smart & cheeky horse
Skeletor reminds me of a heart horse. With the right owner he’ll be a keeper for life.
He would do well with dressage training when he’s older and healed up and strong
Great job, your horses look very content and your location looks amazing. I am hooked.
I love Skeletor ....and it's nice for you to have a horse that really likes to be around you .
And as I was a teen-horsey girl , I could have played with him for hours every day ..
Even if he can never be ridden , he is such a fun horse to have around !
Good luck with that storm! I would love to see what you do to prepare for cold weather and storms.
He is a silly baby with the tumbleweed ❤
Thank you for your videos.
You work so hard!❤
Thank You!! I could agree more!!
My goodness the breath taking view you have❤❤
Great work with the horses! I would have loved to work with horses but life took me in a different direction. Seeing you work and triumph over the challenges feeds my soul. Thanks!
I love all your videos and subjects so post anything you like!
Awesome video! ❤
Thanks! I love your channel and watching you do what I no longer can. I really admire all you do for your horses.🎉
Thank you!
Thank you for your sweet heart loving and caring for these horses.
Thanks for the video it was great. Stay safe in those temperatures next week.
Just seen this video, Omg Skeletor does make me laugh out loud with the games he plays he is a real trickster 🤣
I love your channel! Very interesting content. Being a horse lover I am already drawn in to their special stories. What a kind person you are to take such good care of them! I can't wait to watch more of your videos. Keep up the good work! Our temps are dropping tonight in single digits and below zero. Put a blanket on my horse for the first time tonight. Can you tell me more about the mash you make for the horses when it's cold? Thank you!
I love watching your videos. I have little experience with horses and in person they terrify me but I love watching your herd.
Skeletor is just ready to be doted on by a hunter jumper kid lol!! What a happy go lucky boy, his heart and personality always shines through, he has the confidence of a king!
I think you’re right. He needs an angsty teen to become bffs with!
@@TheCleverCowgirl yes!! He seems like in his head, he is your only horse but such a super attitude! Horses like him are one in a million! Wishing you and all your horses new year’s prosperity!🤍
I hope your knee will be ok. Yes, how do you prepare for severe cold? I cannot even imagine how the horses manage it. From Southern California.
I'd love to see prep for frigid temps. Stay warm!
Such challenges. I do not have horses. Have enough experience around them to know the amount of work and thought involved. Amazing all you do. Thank you for rescuing Skeletor looks so healthy now. I hope the lameness is easily resolved.
Just FYI…
Warmbloods ARE weirdos! I have a herd of 3 and they are each strange in their own way!
That ranch is so beautiful, thanks for sharing it.
I am in Seattle, and that storm is almost here!
I'd love to see what you do for the bitter cold headed towards us
Yes love hearing about winter storm prep, supplements and products you use on your horses.
I sent you a TS gift card tonight for all your hard work and sharing. 🥰
Awesome! Thank you!
I don't know how you have time to read comments. I have 2 horses and a donkey and they keep me so busy.@@TheCleverCowgirl
I love skeletons muzzle it's so cute. How's ziggy doing ? He's my favorite out of all of the horses.
