I thoroughly enjoyed that. I am 74 years old, live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and have been around cattle all my life. I've raised mostly south devon, angus, hereford and usually had a jersey around for milk, but the rare breeds are fascinating. There are at least two herds of Highland cattle here running on mountain pasture, but I've never owned one. Very good video, thanks alot for making and showing it.

I grew up on a small farm in Pennsylvania, U.S.A. My father raised beef cattle and we always kept at least one bull. We had different breeds at different times. The last bull was a registered Simmental. My favorite was Angus. Our first Angus was a purebred calf that my Dad's students gifted to him at the end of their senior year. Thats when we changed from many polled dorset sheep to beef cattle and show bantams. My Dad taught agriculture and FFA for grades 9-12. As a freshman he taught my class about the breeds of major farm animals. Beef cattle, dairy cattle, sheep and hogs. It was the first time i heard of Highlands. I saw pictures of them and fell in love. Still haven't seen one in person, but i will someday. Thank you fir your videos!!! God bless you and yours!!

I used to go to the Cotswold Farm Park when I was little. You could buy paper bags of feed that you could go and feed to the very tame goats and sheep. The cattle were always so impressive to look at. My favourite animals were the pigs. Gloucester Old Spots, Tamworths, Oxford Sandy & Black & the saddlebacks.

I was butted by a cow when I was a child and it put me off of going near cattle especially when they have a calf nearby. Lovely looking livestock that, your Dad was a good man, he did a lot of good work in his time, 👍

529 is a beautiful little calf. The Albions and the Gloucester are gorgeous breeds of cattle. The white park looks a lot like our longhorn. Out of all of them I like your black West Highland bull, Black Prince. What a fine bull. Didnt the black and the red West Highlands originally come from different sides of Scotland?

It's interesting to learn about different cattle breeds. A farmer down the way from us had Longhorn cows crossed with a purebred Angus bull. I always thought he may have trouble at calving time with that horn span but he said no. Evidently they are relatively docile. I like the Albion cattle particularly the blue colored ones. Never heard of a Gloucester before. They seem very unique. 🙂

The Glouchesters have a beautiful mahogany color. I would like to see that color bred into a line of Herefords with white faces. Those breeds that come from N. Scotland, Highlands and Angus, are close to the North Sea, equal with Norway. They are well adapted to cold climates. They should not be put in Texas nor the SW Kansas feedlots.

Adam, thanks for the very interesting video looking at the different breeds of animals and also about the farm and how it operates. I was watching a video of a farmer who does school visits and has recently invited the children to visit his arable farm to give them a better understanding of the types of farms and how food is produced. So between the two of you you will do well to educate of future generations so that they have an understanding of how the agricultural industry works. 👏

Very iteresting video. My great grandparents back in 1904 or so owned an estate in Hampshire, called Woodlands, with a farm and had a herd of cattle, a sold dark brown/mahogany colour. While I do have photos they are packed away and not accessible currently. On a visit from RSA in 2013 my late husband and I thought we saw a similar herd of cattle at (or maybe very near) Mottisfont Abbey.

Interested in your Albion cattle as my grandfather had a Blue Albion steer called big ben which he showed all over and in 1926 at the British empire exhibition at Wembley it was said he was the largest bullock in the world at 1.5 tons and 6’ 5” height, we have a lovely painting of him standing in front of the house!
Still have a small grass farm with a few Devon;s and sheep to.

Isn’t it interesting how the attitude of the government changes as the economy and supply chain change? Recently our government began punishing American farms with increased taxes and regulation. They have driven many of my neighbors off their land with the increased taxes. Farming families for many generations gone. We are sheep, chickens, bee, rabbit farmers with the conservation of the Leicester Longwool. Supply chain disruption here means that if we don’t grow our own food the animals have to be sold or slaughtered and the farm will die. To help this along the President closed millions of acres of federal land that have been used for hay production for over 150 years…our hay went from $80/tonne to $450/tonne and our feed grain doubled. We are all just hanging on hoping the next administration doesn’t hate small farm producers like the present one.
