Seems rather symbolic of the New Zealand Colonial experience viewing the Peeler Hats on the Samoan Police Officers or Bobbies, as compared to the American Samoans and their more modern American Police Officer caps. New Zealand Police Officers have transitioned away from their traditional Bobby Peeler though. Samoans are sticklers for traditions, even if it is a reminder of their colonial past and legacy, like Christianity, it has become assimilated into the Samoan cultural symbols today.
