Special Block Evening Session - Renato Canova; Julien Wanders, Erik Kiptanui, Amanal Petros

Renato's special blocks are well known for being tough.
44km of volume; all between 2:55/km and 3:05/km, this one sure as hell was.
This video covers the evening session, a 10km in 31min, followed by a brutal track workout: 10x 1000m at 2:50/km.
Today's session is primarily for Erik Kiptanui Training for Boston Marathon
Renato has chosen courses with slight uphill and downhill sections.
This is to prepare for the slightly hillier course at Boston
Erik is running 10x 1200m in the second part of this morning's session,
while the rest of the group runs 10x 1000m. Both groups at the same pace.
Morning:
10km - 31min
5min Recovery
12km at 3:00/km (4:50/mile)
Evening:
10km - 31min
Car Drive to Track
10x 1200m ~ 2:55/km (4:42/mile)

Great video from the coaching POV. I'm familiar with glycogen depletion workouts in order to create body energy consumption efficiency i.e. inducing the body to seek fat as primarily fuel for endurance. I hate those workouts, but are the must-do if you seek improvement not only on body mass composition but mostly on endurance. Great stuff SE TS

I love how Canova differentiates volume from speed work and acknowledging what’s the priority for each session. This was the mistake by the guy on the 10k who ran ahead. Also, that woman in her dress!!! She was blazing!

nobody talking about the Indian Warrior Gavit. I don't believe in Canovas training philosophy, he overworks his athletes, Julien and Philipp haven't improved under him.
I'll talk about him. Gavit's a champ and one of the nicest guys I met in Iten :D
I agree. Julien had bad results and injury.
Many factors are in the pool when you are training. I do really think Canova's philosophy is a great method for marathon training. But injuries can happen or muscle fatigue that's why you do not improve.
But this guys are prepared for this kind of 'beating' 😅

This is in the Specific Block of training close to the marathon. He also increases modulations meaning depends on how the athlete is recovering from the workouts. Injuries can happen anytime in the training cycle even doing an easy run. You have to know your body. There’s no denying that Canova’s athletes are the best in the world so his training methods are awesome.
