No talking, 3 minutes to eat shitty slop, no cold drinks, no TOUCHING, no sunbathing, no feeling the cool rain on your face, and probably the worst hell of all... no pizza ever again for the rest of your life.
I think those rules are meant to lower the prisoner's morale because the penal system is made for punishment rather than rehabilitation and that's not okay. The system shows an extraordinary lack of empathy. I can imagine that an environment like that would only deteriorate everyone's mental health, especially while they're at their most vulnerable and in need of proper rehabilitation/psychiatric help. It's so heartbreaking. I understand that people have broken the law and that's not okay but they're still human beings will real feelings and needs and hopes.

I get to work at 7 and and don’t leave until 6 pm just trying my hardest to teach inner city middle school kids and get everything done! People don’t know how much we do for these kids who sometimes don’t even have parents that can provide for them.

A lot of the arbitrary seeming rules are about psychological control through limiting your ability to make choices as much as possible and instilling uniformity/submission. Institutions where a few authority figures need to make sure a large group of subordinates remain orderly will always have a lot of small harshly enforced rules that just condition everyone to behave.

I totally agree with you! I think people who turn their lives around should get their felonies expunged. It is so difficult for people to find decent jobs when they have a felony on their record. People like your boyfriend and others have such struggles and being haunted by a felony for the rest of their life?!! The justice system needs a serious change. Yes...the chow system in a prison is on a schedule, depending on the inmate population. Each dorm or block is allowed about 20 min. to get in the chow hall, get their trays and utensils, get through the chow line with food, get to your assigned seating area, and get out. Talking only slows down the process...and women are more talkative than with males. You get the same amount of time to go through the chow line in a Navy chow line. And in the Navy, you march together to the chow hall, get through the chow line, and RUN back to your dorm for your next assignment. Of course, you VOLUNTEERED for the Navy. Only rights you have in a state or federal prison is the 8th Amendment of the Constitution...PERIOD!! Prison is NOT pleasant...understand!!

denying hugs is inhumane and unnatural. calling it sexual is perverted. ban sexual touching if needed, but you can’t expect human beings to behave well if they’re isolated from human touch. the pictures i understand more, since you have to draw the line somewhere. it would be a pain to look through 100’s of photos. but returning the letters is ridiculous. they should just take the extra photos out and send them back to notify the sender that 5 is the limit.

Like to think of how important it is for a newborn to have skin to skin contact with their mother almost immediately after birth is crucial to their development. My poor husband is such a slow eater. It takes him 30 minutes to eat 2 parts of 1 sandwich even when he's really hungry. He would not survive in prison.
When you brought up the car thing and hitting someone.. I honestly fear that all the time while I drive. Maybe not that specifically but just situations similar to that to where it would be my fault and I could get into huge trouble like that. Exactly. They want all the prisoner's to look as similar at possible. Take away all possible individuality in effort to curb gangs, like you said, but also as a mind control tactic to keep everyone in check.

When you brought up the car thing and hitting someone.. I honestly fear that all the time while I drive. Maybe not that specifically but just situations similar to that to where it would be my fault and I could get into huge trouble like that. I think the rolling up the sleeves one could be so it wouldn’t become a gang thing like (group of people as a gang roll it up in a specific way to let others know they belong in a group)

Exactly. They want all the prisoner's to look as similar at possible. Take away all possible individuality in effort to curb gangs, like you said, but also as a mind control tactic to keep everyone in check.
