    Basic training is nothing like prison believe me done both!!!! I was a CO and prison is alot worst and true, I work in a male prison would never ever want to work a female prison!!!!!! Male prison is racial dividend.

      I'd say that from what Christina is saying about prison (that's the only thing I can go off of because I've never been) the behavior of women is really similar to when I was in basic. The chow hall is similar, sleeping situations are similar, however that was back in the day and I bet they have it a lot better now. My building was about to be condemned when I was in basic so the conditions were baaaaaad lol.

    • @chelseakuwahara2197
      @chelseakuwahara2197 5 лет назад +22

      Ya that's totally true. If you are a CO you aren't getting treated like a prisoner. You have a perspective but I I don't think it's the one we are talking about here.

      I work at a state female prison in south Florida and it’s very para military, their everyday is structured and they don’t really have “down time” for themselves until about 5-6pm then it’s time for bed not long after that. I did NOT want to work at a female institution purely for the fact that women are nasty, I’m a woman so I can say that, and are very vindictive they hold onto grudges and will get you at some point. Men, you piss them off and they wanna bop then five mins later will apologize and then life goes on lol. I’m still adjusting to being a CO and not a “human” when on clock, it’s so hard to not pull these women aside and counsel them and just talk to them. Seeing the ones that don’t have visits, maybe don’t have money for canteen and can’t eat good other than the slop we serve them it’s hard man. It weighs on you mentally when you go home at night and have all these creature comforts ... idk man no wonder correctional officers have such a high rate of suicide because this shit really does play on your character as a person.

    Up here in Canada it gets cold in the winter and it snows alot. I've heard of homeless people ( I've heard this from mostly men) they will commit crimes just to be put in jail for the winter so they can have a bed, a warm place to stay and 3 meals a day.

      I live in Canada too. Homeless committing crime on winter (willingly) is a thing, indeed. But it's a last resort decision. Like, at least in my province, there are a lot of ressources to help them survive winter.

      Yes, very true, i’m from quebec and i used to work in a convience store and every winter we had the same homeless man come “hold up” the store so he can spend the rough winter months in jail. He even warned us (the cashiers) to not be afraid and to call the police because all he really wanted was just to go to jail for winter.

    People fail to realize that in the free world we have a big area to roam in. Once locked up the world shrinks to the size of a large room with a multitude of personalities that 9 times out of 10 we would not ever be in contact with. EVERYTHING is magnified and the smallest , seemingly insignificant things you wouldn't give a second thought to on the outside becomes a big deal among bored , angry people being held against their will .

    I was in the army and many times through these videos I have been thinking about parallels of the living conditions in basic training and also living in the barracks after basic to your prison stories. I have lived in barracks without air conditioning that felt like a sauna. Another time our barracks was condemned due to cockroaches and I remember sleeping with a nightlight so I wouldn’t step on them if I had to get up in the night, I was always so afraid they were going to crawl on me when I was asleep. I know nothing as difficult as what you went through but I think I will always have a touch of PTSD from some of my army experiences.

    Awesome advice about drinking and driving. I agree 100%. I tell my oldest child, don't even smell alcohol when out and about! Even if under legal limit, and someone else is at fault for accident, your very vulnerable to go down....

Watching ur introduction always makes me smile and makes my day 10 times better! Thank you for always being real and honestly making me feel that it's ok and not to be ashamed about my past. I look up to you a lot, thank you!!

    Girl!! Your feelings about inhaling someone else's breath is ME! I live in Michigan, so it's freezing during the winter, but I do not care....that window is down just enough so that I don't feel almost claustrophobic. My daughter yells at me all the time, but sorry babygirl, gotta do it!

    In CA, those interlock devices are dangerous. Not only do you have to blow to begin driving, but it will randomly go off WHILE you’re driving and if you don’t blow clean immediately it alerts the company. Imagine being on a busy freeway, you’re changing lanes and suddenly it’s beeping. You have like 30 seconds to blow clean. Ridiculously unsafe.

    i have a question, i know prison shows can be very dramatic and exaggerated but there is this one scene that has always bothered me in OITNB where the guards force the inmates to fight for their own bets and pleasure and i just wondered if that’s something that actually happens, i know that they can get away with a lot but how do the inmates allow a forced fight?

    My mother has repeatedly gone in and out of prison and jail from her teenage years to her late 30’s (she is in her late 40’s now). As a teenager she was a street kid. She told me that sometimes she would purposely get caught by the police (or just walk into the police station) so she could have a bed to sleep on, food to eat and somewhere to stay for a little while that is warmer than the outside. Saying that, I don’t live in America I live in New Zealand.

    Btw last time i went to jail i was sick for like 3 days and ppl started coming up to me asking if they could do my chore. I was like yes! Thank you! Then shes like ok cool just give me your lunch tho. But i was sick so i wasnt gona eat my food anyway so that worked out so nice. But guess what this one girl was doing all my stuff for me in exchange for food so when i got bailed out i wanted to put $15 on her books. Guess what when she got out she started asked me to do all kinds of stuff for her. She wanted me to cash checks for her. Thats why i dont make friends in jail anymore. Cus everytime i do they try to rip me off so if i do anything i do it cus i want to and thats it. They get out of jail and start getting high again and theres just no friend making.... 9x out of 10.
