Mam, I need to become a naturopathic doctor, but no that much money 💵 😭 to pay fees
Hi DEEPU! Yes, I understand. It is a lot of money to pay T_T Come to Toronto! That is where the tuition fees are the lowest. And if you are coming from the US, USD can buy a lot of CAD dollars.

How long do you usually see a patient until they resolve their symptoms?
I was in the hospital recently and none of the doctors I met believed in healing through alternative methods. My dad stopped smoking for quite a long time with acupuncture by a Canadian Doctor. Thanks for showing what you do day to day.
Hi Sandi lobianco! Thank you for your comment! Congrats to your dad for quitting! It is such a difficult thing to do. All the best!
I can’t wait to become a naturopathic doctor :))))) thanks for this it was amazing!

Beautiful video and very well put together. You're so inspiring, thank you for taking the time to make this.
Hi Shredder03! Thank you so much for watching and for leaving your kind words :) I appreciate the appreciation!
Ah so this is how you run your day! I finally got to see a typical clinic day in your eyes! Loved the video, keep it up!
Christian! Hi! Lol yes, this is what I've been doing on the other end of the clinic. Thanks for watching and for your comment >
This was the cutest, informative, and most interesting thing to watch. Thank you for this video!
Hello Tanisha Cheema! Thank you for your kind words :) I'm glad you liked the video!
I'm new to healthcare, I'm currently a medical assistant student. And this field is so fascinating. Combining modern medical technology with herbal remedies is a fascinating concept. In a lot of poor countries they use these types of clinics because medicine can simply be grown, harvested and transformed into tinctures, syrups and balms straight out of the naturopaths medicinal garden, but the N.D can also check vitals and order x-rays, blood tests, and MRI's. Oh and my state supposedly is the 17th U.S territory to finally recognize ND's as legal healthcare providers. After all, 4 years of medical school, biology, math, science, anatomy, and 2 years of nutrition, herbalism, and pathology etc. should count for something. Kind of like an ambulatory care service in a way.
Hello Knightly Kin! Thank you for watching and for your comment! Thanks also for the naturopathic appreciation! I appreciate your appreciation :)
@@sarah-wellnessgreatness Of course! Thank you for keeping these practices alive and for helping people. :)

What a beautiful lifestyle. I just started my journey in Naturopathic Medicine at Bastyr University in Seattle. Thank you so much for sharing your experience! 🌿
Hello Jake Rodgers! Thank you for watching my video and for leaving your kind comment! Best of luck on your Naturopathic Journey at Bastyr! :)
how is it?
Thank you for this overview, Sarah! Did you also have to go to school for acupuncture? Does this have to be done in a separate masters program or can you get certified during your naturopathic degree? I’m wondering due to time and also cost.
Thank you for this video! I enjoyed watching, how many days a week do you work? Is being a ND in Canada very different that being one in the US?
Nice vid :D pumped to become an ND. Question--if you are pretty busy all day with patients, how do you make time for researching/learning?
Love that you prescribed natural solution to the teen's problem before giving him drugs.
Hi Mark! Thank you for watching and for your comment :) Great question lol! I usually only work 3-4 days a week in the clinic. I usually do my patient research on my off days at home in order to prepare for my days in clinic. I am currently editing a new video (hopefully will be posted by the end of this week) which will touch on the need to take work home when you are a ND. Stay tuned!
@@sarah-wellnessgreatnessthanks for your videos very informative as I am studying naturopathy in the UK.
I just wanted to ask, would you advice to always research before seeing a patient? Do you do that always? Thanks in advance Sarah

Fantastic video I subscribed! I do have one question though, to be a naturopathic doctor do you learn how to do acupuncture, cupping, and other skills that deal with relieving pain as well as health? Thank you for taking your time to read my comment.
Hi Ali Bern! Thank you for watching, commenting and then subscribing :) I appreciate it! To answer your question: Yes, acupuncture and cupping are both taught in naturopathic medical school (at least this was the case at my school CCNM). We also learn how to do basic chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy, and of course herbal remedies to address chronic pain.
@@sarah-wellnessgreatness Oh wow that is amazing! Thank you so much for telling me this information. I’m only 17, but once I heard about naturopathic I felt it was my calling! 😇
Hi Ali Bern! You are very welcome! I'm glad to hear your interest in the naturopathic profession :) It is a great job to pursue, but please do look into both the pros and cons of the profession. Hello Ryn Autumns! Thank you so much for watching and for your short and sweet comment :)
Hii Dr.sarah, I'm studying 1 st year of naturopathy now, I want to become a good doctor. And I want to practice in abroad in my future career can u give me some suggestions to achieve my goal & how to study!!
Hello Srujana Bhavanarushi! Thank you for your comment and for watching my video :) I don't know if this is the best study tip/suggestion, but it is something that got me through studying for the big BIG board exams (NPLEX 1& 2), and that was to remember that someone could die if I don't study well. >< Another thing, do NOT slack off during first year of naturopathic medicine school. If you do not understand the basics during first year REALLY WELL, then 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year are going to be so confusing and tough. Each year builds upon the previous year. I know a lot of classmates who did not do well in anatomy. They barely passed. As a result, since they did not have a strong foundation in anatomy, it made studying acupuncture, physiology, clinical medicine, and so many other courses (that rely on an understanding of anatomy) very hard. Perhaps I will make a video on this topic, but I am not sure if I have very much advice to give on this topic.
I love this! Great vid doc :)
Hi Dr. Merola! Thank you for watching and for your comment! :)
Greetings doc ,do naturopathic medical schools have a part time schooling?
wow you are so hardworking!
Hi Jeanel Pangindian! Thank you for your comment! I try to work hard, but it doesn't happen all the time >
What time do you start work at? You woke up at 7:45, and had time to shower and make that food? Lucky....I have to get up at 5:15 to be at work for 6:30, so def not enough time in the morning for that!
Hello Drew M! Thank you for stopping by to watch my video and comment. If you have a closer look at the times, I actually prep most of my food the night before, and it takes less than 2 mins to fry up an egg in the morning. :) My work starts whenever my first patient has booked an appointment, so it varies.
@@sarah-wellnessgreatness yeah, night before it has to be for me too. I am a shift worker with 12 hr shifts, so they are not variable. I can see how clinic hours would vary.
i love this video!! I saw your UBC hoodie and I’m wondering what school you went to study naturopathy ? Does UBC have a course ?
Hello Ailie Ozaki! Thank you for watching and for your comment! :) I went to the University of British Columbia for my undergraduate degree in Chemistry. Afterward, I went to Toronto to study at The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine to become a naturopathic doctor. UBC does not have naturopathic medical courses. If you go to aanmc.org, you can find a list of the 8 accredited naturopathic medical schools in North America.
@@sarah-wellnessgreatness Okay thank you so much ! Is an undergraduate degree necessary to go into Naturopathic school?
@@ailieozaki333 Yes, you will need a bachelors degree first before applying

Hello Hema dhamodharan! Thank you for your kind comment :) I am glad you liked the video. I am not sure what you mean by your question. Could you please clarify what you are asking?
can naturopathic doctors in ontario prescribe medications that require a prescription? for example like blood pressure medication or blood thinners.
Hello Sam C! Thanks for the question. NDs in ontario need to graduate from school, then take a extra pharmacy course that is taught by Professors from the University of British Columbia. After that course, you need to take an exam and pass it. Only then can a ND in ontario prescribe just a few medications that require prescription. For example, high high dose of vitamin D, hormone replacement therapy, desiccated thyroid, and a few other things. The list is very limited in Ontario. In British Columbia, NDs are able to prescribe way more like blood pressure meds etc.
@@sarah-wellnessgreatness ty for the response!!!! Still not sure about ND, but keeping the option open.
*on becoming an ND
how many years does it take to become a naturopathic doctor?
Hello Simply Chanelle! Thank you for the question! In North America, you need to have a four year undergraduate degree first before you can apply to naturopathic medical school which is another four years. So 8 years in total. Well, 9 years really if you include the year of self study when you take all the registration exams after schooling is done. Hope this answer helps!
Awesome. What are some of the downsides of being an ND?
Hi EternalDestiny48! Thank you for your comment/question :)
Downsides? There are a few downsides and I have touched upon 6 of them in my latest video. Here is the link to that video: ruclips.net/video/EpwkZkfUrTQ/видео.html

,In which country do you work?
Hello Sheesh Kebab! Thank you for your kind comment! I work in Canada!
Hello! I am still deciding whether I should be a DO or ND !! Can I ask, how is the income for an ND compared to a DO/MD?
Hi Deniz! That is a good question. I think if you become a DO/MD, the first few years after you graduate will be between 40k to 80k a year depending on specialty. After residency is over of course, you will probably make well over 100k. For a ND, depending on how hard you work and advertise yourself, your first few years will range between 25k to 80k. I think being a DO/MD will be more financially secure if you get into residency. As a ND, your job security is all up to you. After a few years of experience, and if you build up a strong enough client base, you can definitely make over 100k as a ND...it just takes time and patients/patience to get there.

What camera do you use?
Hi Madison! I use the ZV1 camera :)
I was wondering how to become an ND. Do I need to get a bachelors degree first?
Hello M A! Thank you for the comment and question :) Yes, to enter Naturopathic Medical School you do need a bachelors degree. After you get your bachelors, then you need to apply to a four year accredited naturopathic medical program. Go to aanmc.org to see the 8 accredited schools in North America. When you choose a naturopathic medical school, look at their school requirements and be sure you take the required pre-requisites while you are completing your bachelors degree.
@@sarah-wellnessgreatness Hi! I know the NPLEX exam is required for this particular field. When do people normally take it? Btw, I’m in the USA.
Hello Emma M.! NPLEX 1 is taken between the 2nd and 3rd year of Naturopathic Medical school usually. NPLEX 2 is taken after you graduate. I know some people decided to take them together in the same summer after they graduated, which is soooo much material to memorize. I wouldn't recommend taking them back to back.
@@sarah-wellnessgreatness wow, thanks for the information. How were you able to study for your exams, and which resources were the most effective?
@@Emma-rg1zd Hi again! That's a great question! I am thinking of making a video addressing those questions soon. So please stay tuned!

You are so precious I love you!!
Hi Amaria Holman! Thank you for watching and for your sweet comment >
Hi mam I am doing my final year naturopathy in India...can I get job there..
Hi Merina Begum! Yes! BUT, you'd have to go through a lot of stuff in order to become a registered naturopathic doctor in Canada. You'd have to take a two year program at CCNM, then take a bunch of tests, pass those tests of course, and then apply to become a registered naturopathic doctor if you want to work in a province that is regulated. So the answer is yes, only if you are willing to put in a lot of work...and money. >

Hi Nancy Ramos! Yeah visits can be pricey depending on where you live and what type of clinic the naturopathic doctor has joined. There are some practitioners who run their own clinic and offer sliding scale prices, so perhaps you could consider reaching out to various naturopathic doctors in your area to ask if they can offer you a reduced price.
