- We are a husband and wife building a modern house by ourselves on a SUPER tight budget! In this episode, we sheet the interior of our DREAM workshop and paint the entire exterior and interior of our shop and two story house. We also have high style, modern garage doors installed and we hang a oversized steel and full glass front door.
We also explain how much each step of building our house costs , where the money is coming from, and how much money we are saving by doing some of the work ourselves.

I grew up in the home building business (75 yr old now) and loved building, the smell of cut wood and paint. This video is extremely well produced and enjoyable even for those of us who are not going to build a home. You seem to be blessed with a wonderful and beautiful family. I feel you. We've been having over 100 degree weather here in Southern California on and off for weeks at a time the past 6 weeks or so. I've been working on projects in my uninsulated garage with no a/c. It's been miserable. Keep up the great work! It will pay off. It's looking great!

I live in Mesa as well. I’m also a woodworker myself. We are a rare breed! High five to you for doing what you do. I got a bid from a couple of painters to paint my 2800 sq. ft. home and they wanted over $10,000. That did not include the ceilings so you did good! Your house is beautiful. You can be proud of the work you are doing!

Double paned, vacuum sealed, and probably includes some sort of UV filter coating/film

Smart move on widow placements. Less waist. Great job plus the osb will be good for hanging where ever you want i did this in my shop.

Great company to work with. Don't know if you picked cabinets yet but Barker Modern Is a great way to save money on high quality cabinets. There is no free lunch, you have to design kitchen and order all cabinets and assemble them. I said I would never buy RTA cabinets but i'm glad I did. Great company to work with as well.

SW is now a Home Depot paint, so I hope you were sponsored on it. Dunn Edwards, Vista and some others are just as good and usually come in under $30 a gallon. Despite your high paint and supply bill, you still saved at least $15K doing it yourself. Great work!

Very beautiful house, my only issue is that with all that glass, surviving a zombie apocalypse is gonna be an issue.
Quick fix blackout curtains covering all the windows with peepholes so you can see outside.
And adding a tall fence around the house would help.

We all know that in case of zombie apocalypse you have to find either a mall, or a military base to survive :) Otherwise, noone knows - maybe zombies' lives are actually not that bad.
Just finished sanding popcorn ceiling in 103 degree and ready for skim coating. I feel you! It's hot!

currently remodeling in n-phx with new 1,400 sqft garage/shop aside. Also did foam and opted for cab-grade plywood rather than OSB but for same reasons.
Those neck cooler things do help the trick is to have several in a lunch box sized cooler wear one have a few in the cooler chilling then swap out as needed.
Looks great. I’ve done couple of custom builds and I can tell you have the family builder and using commercial money to meet it. Ordinary owner home build would be $100k - $180k on top of your budget.

Would you mind me asking a few questions. Nice place and nice design elements. My questions are about your garage. What is the depth of your soffit overhangs on your garage. What is garage roof slope, 2:12? What is the height of your tallest and shortest garage walls? I’m looking at a very similar, if not identical, shop garage plans. It’s nice seeing video of a real garage as opposed to computer graphic artist renderings. Thank you. And thank you for your video.
