Thank you Julia! God has blessed you with so much talent & creativity!! I really enjoyed your Bio Video as well! It's so wonderful that your Childhood inspirations have become increasingly fruitful throughout your lifetime!! I am very grateful for your sharings & teachings!!
To hide serger tails I thread a Tapestry Needle with the extra thread and pull it thru the last stitches. Pull the thread a few inches and snip. Works like a charm! Love your ideas...thanks much.
Loving your sweatshirt transformations. Everything is so well explained Julia and I am definitely going to try some of my own..copying your instructions that is. Well done 👏😀💐
You do such a great job of demonstrating you creations. I did one of these remakes about 16 years ago after watching HGTV, and wore it proudly. I am going to be giving this one a try as soon as I get a sweatshirt for it. Thanks again for the great videos.
You are such a creative person, I love watching your videos. The thing that really impresses me is all the extra care you give all your pieces like weaving in threads and securing them with fray check. Since you make these to sell I hope your customers truly appreciate the quality control that goes into your work. Believe me, most people do not do this. Even huge companies do not do this.
If I were doing this I think I would put the wrong sides of the cotton fabric or alternatively one right side inside the pocket on the side that will be seen from the outside together inside the pocket and the right side would be seen when you stitch the pocket down from the inside. You can hardly see inside the pocket but you can see the inside of the jacket. I hope this sounds clearer than it looks. I really enjoy your videos thank you.
Love that jacket, and the colour too. The one thing that occurred to me, is that, as you added the extra solid colour fabric to the pockets which do show at the edge, if you'd put the patterned fabric with the right side outwards, when the jacket is open, you'd see the full pattern, which is kind of wasted deep inside the pocket? Think I'll do mine the 'wrong way round' thanks very much for the inspiration!
Beautiful design! I'd love to add pockets to some of my sweatshirts. I think I'll scour my local thrift stores for a pocket pattern & give it a try. TFS!! Hugs, Vina
You are so creative. If you don’t have a serger, what stitching do you recommend? I will have to free hand the embellishments, but that should not be an issue. Peace.
Hi Monica, If your sewing machine has an appliqué stitch (it looks like a blanket stitch) that would work. Because sweatshirts are a stable knit, i have also edge stitched with two lines of straight stitch placed close together. Hope this helps. Julia
Hi Julia, Love all your wonderful transformations and so easy to follow. Do you use a ball point needle for your stretchy fabrics? and where did you get those trendy fabric scissors from? X
Hi, Thanks for watching! I only change my needle to a ball point if I'm skipping stitches. Usually this only happens on lighter weight knits so I do not have to on this sweatshirt knits. This scissors is a Fiskars- It has a spring mechanism in the handle to you only press downward. I do a lot of cutting and it really helps with over using my hands. Here is the Amazon link for the scissors ( Walmart also sometimes carries it) : amzn.to/2QsNclm
Hi Karen, My serger is a Janome MyLock 734D. It's about 10 years old. It is a 4 spool and has been a real work horse:) I have it serviced once a year- oiled and the blades changed. Thanks so much for watching! Julia
I don't mind the serger tails if they are on the inside. On this sweatshirt, I use my serger to edge finish the lapel and the serger tails are visible. The visible ones have to be hidden or it looks unfinished. Hope this makes sense. Julia
That pocket is so clever! Jacket is beautiful! So glad I found your videos.
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you enjoy my videos.

I really like that you have added pockets.

Cutting is the scary part! Thanks for watching. Julia

Thank you so much for watching, I hope you give it a try.
The way you do the serger tails is the way I was taught. I love the videos!

Love your jacket idea pockets are a nice touch
Hi Catherine, This is a good technique. Pockets are nice to have in a sweatshirt jacket. Thanks for watching. Julia

Hi, Threads and serger tails are my pet peeve! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! Julia

6/15/2020. I got the sweatshirt ready to start. Thanks again for the wonderful tutorial.
Hi Marian, Hope you are staying cool and safe, Julia
you are just ingenius!! Thank you so much for your sharing of your knowledge..
I always hesitate to cut a sweatshirt up the middle front EVEN if i only paid $3 for it at a thrift shop! Glad I'm not alone...😁
Me too!

Another option I frequently use is a wide zig zag stitch.

Thank you so much x
Also try small crochet hook to feed serger tail thru
Also, thank you, love your tutorials….want to try these ideas to make vests…..wondering if you could try a tutorial on a vest from a sweatshirt?
Great Tip! Thanks so much!
I've tried a sweatshirt to vest before in my summer shop. My problem was the arm holes are huge LOL. I'll have to put on my thinking hat!
What serger do you have? Thanks shopping for one.
Hi Karen, My serger is a Janome MyLock 734D. It's about 10 years old. It is a 4 spool and has been a real work horse:) I have it serviced once a year- oiled and the blades changed. Thanks so much for watching! Julia
I have worked with factory production for years and I have never seen anyone worry about serging "tails"
