Michael Anthony is one class act.
Totally. Based on all of the interviews and media I have read, watched and listened to for the last several decades, I have long said that Michael Anthony and David Ellefson from Megadeth are the two nicest, humble and down to earth 'rock stars' in the world. Despite being in huge bands, having millions of fans around the world and having anything they want at the snap of their fingers, both guys seem to have remained as 'normal guys'. It is very refreshing.

Michael is the kind of guy that everyone would want as a real friend. The guy is immense and without a doubt, he sits right at the top table of the classiest guys in Rock. A lovely, humble, and incredibly gifted bass player....it takes real talent to keep a beat the way Mike does.
God bless Sammy for hooking back up with friend, Eddie Van Halen, before Eddie passed away!
I'm not going to lie, I kinda choked up a little in now knowing that they did patch things up and that it was done the right way (away from the media etc.).. especially those wise words from Sammy after the fact that Eddie is no longer with us. R.I.P. Ed
Very good for Sammy Hagar. He made peace with Eddie before he died. And he also released any weight he was carrying over his shoulders. Very emotionally intelligent this guy is. And also talented. I have always loved his powerful voice.
Eddie and Alex seem pretty easy to get along with; worship them, cater to their whims, and agree with everything they say. You'll be fine.

Man those Van Halen boys sure did know how to hold on to a grudge. I'm not saying that I wouldn't have wanted to strangle DLR at some point, but Sammy and Michael? Those are two mellow, down-to-earth dudes.
Agreed. But remember, Sammy all but refused to sing a lot of DLR/VH songs while they were together. He begrudgingly only sang a few of the biggest DLR/VH songs. I could understand some of the frustration from the VH side of the house. Even though the album was a flop, a lot of fans really enjoyed the concert tour when Gary Cherone took lead because a lot of old VH songs came back to live performance that had been missing for well over a decade. So there's always more than one side of the story. I'm sure VH felt like their band was being held hostage at times.

I agree with Sammy… The older you get, the less you want to deal with conflict and problems….. you eventually just want to let your guard down and tell everybody you love them regardless of what’s happened in the past.

I love EVH as a guitarist. He's one of the best I've ever seen, live. But, the way he and Alex have treated the Sammy situation has gone from the standard band in-fighting to something that's just uncalled for. I'd love to see them all bury the hatchet, but I'm not holding my breath.

I always like Sammy. Down to earth and so chill. He’s like a cool uncle who takes you places and is fun to hang out with. David was more of a older cousin who was cool to party with but obnoxious to be around for too long. Michael Anthony is just such a class act. The Van Halen brothers are childhood heroes and I’m sad Eddie is gone.

I'll never forget the Creem magazine interview with Eddie when Dave was freshly-gone and the reasons were still unknown to the public, and Eddie made it sound like he fired Dave when that wasn't the truth, and in that magazine and Rolling Stone he mentioned "putting up with Dave's bullshit" as though that was the problem, but he came off pretty weak at the time, and exponentially more so in retrospect.
I met this guy here in New Orleans at the mall years ago...
Let me tell you guys... I was amazed how humble and nice he was... He even asked me if wanted to take a picture with him..

I love Sammy, he is such a loving guy who sincerely just wants happiness. Not to mention the fact that Sammy is the best live rock singer I HAVE EVER SEEN. I saw Van Hagar years ago and Sammy was the star of the show. His vocals were UNBELIEVABLE, not even so much as one wrong sour note.

I saw VH with Sammy on vocals. He was amazing. Eddie was drunk onstage.
I saw Sammy in 1983 He's still rocking! He's a great guy!
I also saw Sammy's Standing Hampton tour in 1983, he played two and a half hours with no opening band, i bought a shirt at the show that say's Hagar Kicks Ass on the back, great concert.

You need to watch the whole interview on Sirius. I think it's one of the best interviews I've seen and heard on Howard's show in a long time. That guitarist is absolutely awesome, and I really appreciate that he plays in his own way, not anyone else's.
Sammy has a great band and a great friend in Michael Anthony.

In the 80's I thought Sammy was pretty cheeseball with his red jumpsuit and all, but then I discovered Montrose and heard the man speak, now I respect the man and his music greatly

It's not a loss if you don't care. I've had old friends try to rekindle with me. I have no interest. Life moves on. I have no need of those people in my life. I get it. Ed's got his health to focus on. The guy has been sick. He's got more important things on his mind.

I don't think Eddie would be friends with anyone as happy as Sammy. Misery loves company. And hanging out with Sammy probably just kills Eddie because Eddie is miserable and Sammy is loving every minute of his life.

I have listened to the Red Rocker for along time, and lately I have realized he is the coolest rock star ever. I do not know why it has taken this long to realize this. Great role model for all musicians.

There's a point in life when you figure it out. When you realize whatever you thought was important when you were younger--money, fame, power, influence, whatever--isn't as important as finding peace in the relationships in your life. Some people realize that sooner than others, and some unfortunately never quite get there. I'm not particularly a fan of Sammy Hagar's music or Van Halen's music, but I have profound respect for Sammy Hagar the person for finding that place of peace and wanting to extend it to others.

I liked Sammy even before he joined Van Halen. Which is rare in Australia because most people had never even heard of him before that over here.
I was lucky to have an American family friend that is a great guitarist and he put me onto Montrose and better yet influenced me to start playing myself

Sammy, has always been a true stand up person.. much respect for reaching out..I’m no where near the situation he was in but within the last year I’ve reached out to people that began to hate on me and regardless of them getting back to me I still felt I was doing the right thing by trying to mend old wounds..but in Sammy and Mikes case their wounds are much deeper...holding bitterness only hurts the one holding..
Sammy has got it figured out, just like Mike. They both realized the importance of life, friends and regrets. Way to go. When I grow up I want to be like those guys

Don't know if Eddie does interviews anymore, but I would love to know his true feeling on not being able to perform an entire catalog of good music (the Sammy years). He wouldn't be honest anyway. But, you know as a human it is eating him up inside, especially having to listen to DLR struggle through every damn song of the old catalog. Just gotta say, Eddie and the crew are getting old, this is no way to leave a legacy. DLR and Sammy have both been huge parts of Eddie and VH's evolution. It really is a shameful way to leave things.

Met Michael Anthony in '05 when he (and his family) came into the Maui Tacos restaurant I was managing on Maui. Dude was cool af. I comped his meal and gave him some Maui Tacos swag. Next day he comes back and gives me a t-shirt and a framed autographed photo and says, "thanks very much for yesterday." Class act.

I was a Sammy hater when VH split (TEAMROTH)...but I've grown to really love this guy, and it helped develop a new appreciation for the Hagar era of Van Halen. I love the aggressiveness of the early era, but songs like 5150, Naturally Wired and many others have really grown on me.

I’m glad that Sammy and Michael have a new band. They’re obviously friends and the VH brothers obviously don’t want anything to do with them, so let them enjoy do their own thing. They made themselves a legacy with VH, they deserve to have a little more creativity on their hands.
I like how Mike has always taken the high road regarding how he got screwed by the VH gang. I've never seen him trash them when given the opportunity to do so, always talking instead about how great that part of his life was. Class act all the way.
