    When I meant my husband he was working on a old farm house restoring it. There were a lot of feral cats around. I asked him how many of them were out there. He said he counted about 10. I told him by next spring he could count on more like 30. He decided to get some live traps and try to catch them to get them fixed. What a ordeal that was! First cat we caught we tried to put in a cage to take to get fixed. After getting scratched up pretty badly and the cat got away we decided oven mitts on the next one. That worked a little better. We had 3 traps set at a time and took 3 cats at a time to be fixed. More then half of them were already pregnant. We caught 9 of them. This house was a little bit out in the country. It has been 7 years since we had all the cats fixed. My Husband now only has a couple left up there that he goes up and feeds every other day. TNR has seemed to work in this situation.

      @ Barb Brooks, I'm really proud of the two of you for doing what you could for those cats, it's nice to know that there are still good, kind people in this world who have a heart and they aren't afraid to show it!! And it just goes to show that feral cats don't live 15 years as @vasallizinni tried to claim, since most of your feral cats are gone in 7 years. God bless you both for allowing them to live out their lives in peace. I have no doubt that you made a huge difference in their lives when you did the TNR for them since they probably no longer roamed around as much aland were a lot more peaceful and quiet as well. Plus I have no doubt that in return they help keep any rats and mice away from your place as well. I know my neighbors have said they are seeing far less mice and rats in our neighborhood due to the feral cats.

    • @vasallizinni

      Sounds like TNR is working on the farm. Frankly, any form of cat management will be fine on such a vast area as a farm. It is when they stray in to other locations that are owned by neighbors who don't keep cats nor intend to clean up after cats that TNR breaks down. Our alternative, TRF, Trap and Remove Forever can kick in and solve the problem rather quickly. So, no worries. It will all be fine.

    I live in Bay Area Ca and there is a colony af at least 15 cats/kittens and the problem is the big healthy cats who make all the kittens (males and females alike) are the ones NOT TNR'ed and thats why there are new kittens popping up every few months who look like those ones who weren't TNR'd..
    TNR is only effective if 100% of the cats are Fixed. Not 85% not 90% 100%

    In my community recently, an individual found a stray kitten on the street and took it to our local shelter. After a few days, they went back to start the adoption process. The kitten had a complete vet check, spay, shots, etc.
    The individual took the kitten home.
    Several days later, the kitten seemed ill and was taken to the vet.
    It had rabies!
    Now, anyone who came in contact with the kitten, needs rabies shots. The individual, shelter staff, friends and family, neighbors.
    Ahhhhhh !!!

    SUGGESTION for taming a feral cat. Major pet product chain stores sell pet calming treats with herbs and yeast in them. They are like natural cat tranqualizers. I tamed and domesticated a feral cat by giving him calming treats ....then pick him up, hold him, pat him and talk to him. By doing this it breaks the fear cycle of the cat. My cat was dramatically changed by only 3 or 4 sessions with the cat calming treats. Of course, the younger the feral cat the better chance of taming

    • @jeanengstrand5625
      @jeanengstrand5625 5 лет назад

      Which pet calming treats do you suggest? Of the 15 ferals I feed, only one is truly aggressive. Two are getting friendlier by the day, and the rest are just fearful and run whenever I come out to feed them. I'd like to know what has worked for you - I would put it in all the cats' canned food.

    • @joshuapeppars6985
      @joshuapeppars6985 Год назад

      That doesn't work for every feral cat. It would be beautiful if it did but that would make it too easy. And also TNR will only work if 100% of the cats on the streets are fixed and that will NEVER HAPPEN. As long as female cats can have 3-4 litters a year times as many as 6 cats each, its a LOSING BATTLE.

We're keeping her in the garage tonight and releasing back into the woods behind our house tomorrow. We have a couple of dog houses used for cat houses and the words out and now several cats show up at feeding time. Poor babies, maybe nobody else cares about them but my wife and I do.

      I would trap them and take to the pound for euthanasia as nuisance animals. I believe that TNR is only valid for managed (registered) cat colonies, and even then nuisance animals can be removed. I don't know how it works where you are, but you might investigate in your city to see how this works there. Feral cat colonies should not be allowed to be set up in residential areas.

    Thank you for the information in this video. I'm trying to write a college research paper about feral cats right now and this video had more information than most of the published research I was reading. But I have one big criticism and that is that ALL of your criticisms of Trap and Remove also exist with TNR, but you didn't bring that up at all. You guys said that Trap & Remove doesn't work because it requires too many resources and that if a significant population of the cats isn't taken out at one time, then the population will bounce right back. However one of your concluding statements was: "Reduction in feral cat colonies needs a community wide approach which brings together veterinarians, wildlife advocates, animal shelters, health professionals, municipal officials, who all come together to embrace trap-neuter-release." Don't you think that trapping, spaying or neutering, and the adoption process takes up more resources than trap and euthanize? Plus if you only capture a small population in TNR, you'll face the EXACT same problem: the kittens of non-sterilized cats will face less competition for resources and the population will just bounce right back. You also said that removing the cats will just cause other cats to move into take those resources, but apparently cats that die naturally with TNR won't have their territory or resources taken over by a younger cat and the colony will go through attrition or be eliminated? Those conclusions contradict each other. Also if the cats do die naturally after TNR, it uses up more resources again because those corpses will be around the community which causes a public health concern, AND a second trip needs to be taken out by someone to remove the body. So basically, the TNR faces a doubling of trips needed to be taken (trap and removal of body, also assuming the same cat isn't caught again after its first desex) and then it also requires a surgery to take place. TNR also doesn't address the main issue at hand: the effect which cats have on native wildlife. Just because they're desexed, doesn't mean that they'll stop killing native birds and mammals and reptiles or spreading disease. They're just released to continue going about their destructive habits. There is no way that you can argue that TNR takes up less community resources or is less effective than trap and remove. If you want to argue for TNR and not TR, then stick to an argument that it's more ethical or moral to return than remove, rather than an argument about resources.

      You brought up some good concerns and questions but you cannot go by this video alone on what your outcome is do you need to do more research on benefits and disadvantages of DNR you need to know who does TNR who backs DNR who pays for TNR then also who euthanizes who pays for you that has Asian and where does the money and people come from you need to find out what a caregiver is what colony is where they come from and what’s being done about that there’s so many things about TNR and not TNR and that is more than just this video and if you’re doing a paper for school I hope that you did more research than just this video. And I hope you researched different outlets on both good and bad of tnr. Because as of everything in life everything has a good and bad and you have to research all of it. not just certain parts of it. Like don’t go to a bird site if you wanna know about TNR you’re not gonna get a data that has actual research study with references. There might be references that are they true references not just someone’s opinion. I can have an opinion all day long and give you references to why it’s true that is still my opinion and it does not mean that it’s true you have to have studies with references that are reliable and this video alone is not what you should face your decision on

    As an "adopter" of a feral cat who was most likely caught and released, I think all ferals have potential. He started out by moving himself on to our patio, and while he would hiss and try and scratch us if we got too close, we managed to get him to open up to us using a backscratcher. He is now the sweetest, most affectionate of our cats, while he continues to live his life mostly outdoors. Please take time to support your feral cat population.

    It is your legal right to trap any cat on your property with a humane cat trap as long as you turn the cat in to the animal control in a timely manner. Anyone who attempts to physically stop you from doing this is subject to arrest with severe fines and jail time. It is free to you to turn the trapped cat over to the animal control. In many cases, the animal control will come to your home free of charge to pick up the cat or you can drop the cat off at the animal control. Either way the service is free of charge and they will remove the cat from the trap and give you back your trap then and there. There is a 99.99998 percent chance that once you complete this exercise, you will never see that particular cat again in this life time. So, if you have been disposing of a few cats using another method and someone has threatened you with an animal cruelty crime, just resort to this method to dispose of all the cats. Including the ones with collars on them because animal control will take them all. Then, threaten them with arrest if they try to stop you because the police will protect you no matter how many cats you trap and turn over to animal control. 24 hours a day. 7 days a week. 365 days a year. Including leap year.

      vasallizinni I find a good way to neuter cats is by hitting them in the spine with a bat. The only negative side effect is that most of the cats are no longer able to walk, but it definitely takes care of the overpopulation.

      WIlliam White
      That is considered cruel of an animal. It would best be described as
      torture just as allowing cats to live homeless. The amount of suffering is far
      beyond your comprehension it seems. And on a final note, you still have an
      overpopulation problem that you feel is perfectly fine but that does not mean we
      have to put up with it. Keep your cats indoors. Become a more responsible pet
      owner. Don't pawn your pet keeping activities on all the rest of us if you're
      the one who wanted a pet.

      vasallizinni You are so stupid. The hit severs the cats spinal cord which removes all sensation below the point of impact. If you had half a brain you would realise this makes the animal a paraplegic (or (quadraplegic depending on where you hit it). Its the most humane way to neuter cats I know of because it is pain free.

    Well It's 10/14/2014, and still no one in this cat trapping contest has trapped another cat for almost an entire month. Forget about the original goal, which was to eradicate the homeless cat population. We are trying to win a contest here, and I am still three cats out of first place. I want to win so bad I almost forgot what the real goal was. $200.00 dollar gift certificate to Big Sporting Goods is a strong motivator. At least it seems we reached our goal which was no homeless cats in this neighborghood, which means no one has to tollerate the useless TNR program. Trap Neuter Return, TNR, never solves the problem of homeless cats peeing and pooping all over your garden and your childrens play areas. Cats spread disease and free roaming cats pick up diseases taking them back to the owners, leaving your yard contaminated with disease that you can catch. Removing these cats forever solves all this problem rapidly. No need for the excuse filled TNR program which solves nothing and postpones cats suffering and keeps the neighborhood a cat fecal and cat urine mess. We have decided we don't want to wait till the current cats get old and die off, further more, we don't believe the TNR method will get us to the point where the cat population will reduce to zero or anything close to a zero cat population, which we have reached currently using the TRF method. Trap and Remove Forever.
    No waiting, no excuses. Cats gone in less than two months. Now that is progress.

Once we humans made cats our pets ,we breed them,we abondend them ,to many idiots dont spay and neuter their pets and then there are to many kittys. Nope killing them doesnt solve anything we have to learn to take care of what we once created. Its not the cats fault its societys fault. Every fucking idiot wants a puppy or a cute little kitty, we are still breeding animals for money and then many of them ending on the streets when they get annoying or to expensive . Feral cats harbor dangerous diseases. They also urinate and deficate all over public grounds as well as private property. You have the right in the USA to trap and remove any cat on your property. I just trapped two free roaming cats this week and had the local animal shelter pick them up for free. They were deficating in our organic food garden. One was too mean for it to likely avoid being put to sleep and the other may be adpoted, but there are two les cats. Most of our neighborhood trap and remove cats now. We want our neighborhood clean.

    Our feral cat elimination society has recently come across another method of eradicating feral cats. We do not agree with this practice that was suggested to us by someone who possibly practices this method. Soaking tuna or other cat food in vehicle radiator coolant or fluid and then leaving the soaked food in areas where cats will feed. The results are that the feral cats consume the soaked food and the radiator fluid shuts down the cats kidneys causing a most horrible and painful death. Yes this practice is easier then trapping the cats and turning them into the Humane Society, but we feel this is an extremely cruel practice and far beyond the measure that we are prepared to take to eliminate the feral cat situation. We find it plain evil and mean hearted and would rather put up with the feral cat problem than stoop to this level. It's one thing removing feral cats by turning them into the Humane Society, but it's quite another thing torturing cats and having them die by feeding them radiator coolant. Another problem with this practice is that you leave the dead cat body in the area to rot away and cause another unsanitary condition. For all those who are following our progress and success with removing feral and stray cats from our neighborhood, which we have proved can be done and maintained, we do not condone using poisons such as and especially as cruel as radiator fluid. Our method is humane and we suggest you follow our example rather then this evil and cruel radiator fluid method. We must draw the line there.

    Some of the comments here are just really sad. One of the shelters here in NJ does TNR, but releases to local farms that are in need of pest control. The cats hunt and kill mice, rats, and moles. In exchange, the farmer provides a warm barn and food. There are always humane solutions.

    Cats are meant to be family pets
    So are dogs.....
    Why are dogs being registered and monitored, but cats are allowed more leniency?? Ive encountered many a strays and am aware of all the issues concerning wondering cats and their impact on neighbourhoods and wildlife. I understand cats are natural predators, but still, there are people who have enough respect for the neighbours and the environment to allow their pet cats luxury of 'outdoor enclosures' where they can play in their own territory or some responsible people who keep em indoors. Cats come with a great responsibility just as big as owning a pet dog. if not a greater one!! Too many people fall inlove with the cute little ball of fur and then just toss em aside later. Where do some of these strays come from?? too much responsibility for one person and then they get chucked outside to fend for themselves. Then many un desexed go away and start breeding like rabbits and causing problems for neighbourhoods and wildlife!! Then there are those neighbours who no matter how much u try talking to them about feeding strays, they tell u they couldn't get it de sexed cuz they couldn't catch it, and they still feed the stray that will keep hanging around and take no responsibility for what the cat does, there don't seam to be any laws regarding people feeding un altered strays where they are fined for complaints bout the cats. Also, I have found a lot of information that free roaming cats are laden with various diseases and their waste is a health risk to humans. Some people consider cats to be to the same standard as vermin. I am not against animals or anti cat person, I use to have pet cats and my family own pet cats. Just feel that the whole cat problem needs to be seriously looked into. Humans need to be held to a far greater accountability in resulting actions from a cat they are owner too or feeding!!

    • @vasallizinni
      @vasallizinni 10 лет назад +3

      You took some of the words right out of my mouth. Wow, another person who understands the problem. We don't hate cats. We just believe that some people find keeping cats as the lazy mans way of having pets, when it is every bit of a responsibility as keeping a pet dog. It is just way easier to fake it and not be so responsible when it comes to keeping cats as pets. They can pawn part of the burden off on the surrounding neighbors and usually get away with it since cats are very stealthy and can get away relatively much better than a dog can. In addition, "FREE ROAMING CATS ARE LADEN WITH SEVERAL DISEASES AND THEIR WASTE IS A HEALTH RISK TO HUMANS" I have said the same so many times and I fear we are going to discover this the hard way once a real pandemic comes along and jumps to cats, spreading into so many households. My goodness, that will be such an easy pipeline to infect us. The biochemistry of the domestic cat has a very dynamic recent history. It reminds me of some evil scientists laboratory, where potential biological dangers are being processed and refined. It has not been that long since the Aids virus was made public knowledge and already cats have developed Feline Aids. A very contagious disease amongst cats that we are supposed to calm down about because it only affects cats. Excuse me but that was very fast for Aids to jump to cats. Pardon me if I am a little concerned about how long it will be before Feline Aids morph into a strain that can be passed to humans by as little as a cat scratch or cat bite. Honestly, how far fetched is that? I remember when we never heard of Aids, and in that short time it has become an epidemic within the worlds cat population. Kind of scary when you consider how long ago we all heard about Aids. My point being, cats seem to be a very dynamic disease breeding ground for new forms of disease and taking into account how cats have spread certain diseases to humans in the past and currently, it is not beyond reason that homeless and feral cats will probably be a very dangerous health risk in the near and distant future. Even more so due to the nature of our close contact with domesticated cats and the contact those cats have with the feral cat population. Imagine having a pet opossum and allowing it to mingle with the feral opossums. That would almost certainly infect the owner with bubonic plague since they are known to carry the disease when living wild as stated by the CDC. Something real to consider. I believe we are on the verge of having to deal with some real disease dangers in the present and near future. Even our government has organized research departments on the subject of zoonosis, which is the science of how deadly or dangerous viruses and disease jump from one animal species to another. A real threat to our safety. The feral cat population breeds so rapidly that it is a perfect host for disease and the best candidate for the spread of some deadly biological nightmare directly to the human population, especially here in the United States where domestic cat ownership is the highest in the world. It is time we deal with the homeless and feral cat population epidemic while it is relatively not as harmful as it soon may very well become, for this is not just some long shot threat. This threat has a logic trail that leads right to massive public disaster. If anything, some caution exercised here will be protecting the domestic feline pet population and those human owners, if not the entire human population of which those cat owners come in contact with.

    originally thought of taking feral cats to our humane society for euthanasia, but it makes more sense, because cats are territorial, to release fixed cats back to the community, because the fixed cats will keep new cats out of their territory. Great video

    • @vasallizinni
      @vasallizinni 10 лет назад +2

      The Fixed cats idea sounds logical, however it never goes as planed. Cats make space for more cats and they don't run other abandoned cats out of the area. They can actually live in very confined quarters and eat side by side without fighting over food. Fact is they mainly only fight over sex and reproduction rights regarding another female cat in heat and ready to reproduce for the third time in a single year. Populations of homeless or feral cats only increases the practice of abandoning more cats, often not fixed, into the area for the notion that it seems like an area for cats. Then the reproductive hellish cycle continues and soon you smell cat urine in the open air one day while out for a walk.

      @ vasallizinni, hope that your sweet little plan of a cat free environment doesn't back fire on you and literally bit you in the rear end!! Or that one of your innocent children doesn't get bitten by a rat or mouse when they start to over populate your area. Rats and mice populations are controlled a lot by cats and it's not just sick rats and mice that they catch. Cats love the thrill of the chase and the faster it moves the faster they chase and the more obsessed they become. It gets kicked into high gear when they are on the hunt. And it's not the feeding of them that allows the rodents to dine, it's the over feeding of them when too much food is left because they are sometimes over fed due to the people not knowing if they are going to be able to come back later to feed them again. So often they put out extra food so that they will have it later to eat. As I said before vasarllizinni you don't know Jack about cats!! You stated "Cats only really catch the sick diseased slow rodents"!! Bahahahah that's really a pretty funny thI'lling to say, because it's not true, And Again You don't know Jack about Cats!! It's sad that you hate cats that much, it's a shame and it's sad that you would whooping it up and be so elated over the countless cats that you sent to their death. And be practically chest bumping your new neighbor over a cat he sent to die. Wow you all deserve each other. Since there are those who still try to protect these free roaming cats, we have decided to trap and remove forever. TRF. We constantly trap and remove forever till there is a void. Its easy to do and with just a few other neighbors helping, there is little chance those people who support wild cats can stop us from turning cats into the animal shelters. If a pet cat gets caught, then the owner pays to bail the cat out. It is best owners keep cats indoors or on a leash since cats can't be confined to a yard.

Medical care will be involved and the safe ones will be put up for adoption. you will never have to touch the cat at all. This is a service your tax dollars already pay for so take advantage of it

    Another neighbor who is new to our cat trapping group, TRF, Trap and Remove Forever, caught a cat his first day out with his brand new trap. Congratulations to him. I didn't get to see the cat and wave goodbye to it, but he sent it away to the local Humane Society shelter earlier this week with several other neighbors wishing it bon voyage properly. Some of the neighbors are considering another type of advanced cat trap involving a large net designed to trap any hard to trap cats. It's amazing how a problem such as feral and homeless cats can be wiped out so rapidly when a few determined humans put their minds to cleaning up a community. We have been asked to be guest speakers for another neighborhood watch meeting to share with them how to combat a certain cat lady that resides in that neighborhood. Thank goodness that neighborhood is far enough from us to avoid getting those cats to move in here. Even if they did, I now believe we as a neighborhood force against homeless and feral cats could eliminate the infestation. TRF, Trap and Remove Forever! It works and it works fast. We will share with you here are experiences so you too can start a TRF group in your neighborhood. Join the TRF movement, getting rid of one cat at a time.

    Many free-roaming cats are misidentified as "feral". This is often due to any sign of skittishness from the cat during a short period of time. Most programs don't spend adequate time on singular cats to know whether or not the cat is feral or a stray. This is a problem because this unscientific misidentification is the reason given for mass euthanization at kill factories that communities call "shelters".
    This video is dated but still heavily represents community issues surrounding cats in need, namely the intentional dishonesty on the topic designed to pacify the general public. For example, in addition to misidentification, shelters are disguised via their names. In OC California for example, the kill factory is called "OC Animal Care" but only 15% of the cats that are brought there receive care, the rest are killed off and usually within 5 - 7 days with a kill rate of 85%.
    Another example is heard in this video, relating to cats that are not "intended" to be outdoors and hunting. In all cases, nature will dictate what cats are "intended" to do and cats are natural born killers, their physical properties and instinct see that to that right down to their instinct to chase, claw, and rip to shreds any prey they find. I'm not saying that pet cats should be subject to hunting for food, especially in city settings, but the fact is, they do hunt, but rarely birds and most often rodents and bugs. Communities need to KNOW and UNDERSTAND this when formulating solutions for their growing cat populations because pretending otherwise is dishonest, non-scientific, and does not help with the problem.

You probably have your home full of cats and now like typical cat hoarders, you want a second colony in case the authorities remove the other colony. Oh there are books written about your mania. You need psychological help, for your own good. You have a mental disease and it will just get worse over time. The vacuum effect talked about in this video is a con to always have hoards of cats in the environment for the benefit of the feeders. Vacuum effect refers to an environment's carrying capacity or a few wild native animals fighting over limited food. TNR cat hoarders supply all the cat food the cats, rats, mice, cockroaches racoons, skunks, possums can eat. Cats are a domestic animal and invasive species not native wild animal and new cats join for TNR food left out.

    Well well. Happy New Year to all. The contest is over and my neighbor across the street won the prize for the most cats trapped and sent to the animal shelter for the last six months in our neighborhood, which also was the start of our homeless and feral cat eradication system. The experiment worked. We did get one more cat trying to fill what we call our cat free zone, however it was trapped and sent on it's merry way to the animal shelter in December. That made five cats that tried to fill the void in six months. Today marks the beginning of the second bi- annual cat trapping contest for this neighborhood. Donations for the first prize is being planed so the prize has not been announced yet but plenty of residents were very pleased with our results for last contest and we did eradicate all the feral and homeless cats in our entire neighborhood. The new contest had to begin today so that we would not miss a single trapping day. Our adjacent neighborhood across the wash from us has reported a great success in trapping these homeless cats of which I don't have the current number but I believe they were last around forty cats trapped. I hear one of them also found a feral cat's nest of baby kittens. LOL so much for TNR. It is always the same old story with those TNR people. I think they use it as an excuse to get around people just trapping and removing feral and homeless cats. One of the things I do know for sure is TRF, Trap and Remove Forever woks like a charm, and it is human, moral and protected by law. You have the right to trap any roaming cat and turn it into the Humane Society or any animal shelter. This practice is protected by law. Anyone trying to physically interfere with your trapping is subject to arrest. It does not matter if the ear of the cat is tipped or the cat has a collar with tags on it. Any roaming cat and be trapped by you and turned into the animal control. This is the one and only legal method you can exercise to trap and remove cats from your property. Dealing with these cats in any other method than turning them into animal control, which is the Humane Society or the animal shelter, is illegal and can land you in jail. You can't even trap a cat and move it to another location because that is call animal abandonment and carries some severe penalties. You can't harm the cats ion any way because that is known as animal cruelty and also carries some severe criminal penalties. Crimes against animals can go on your permanent record and even if you win the case it will show you got arrested for such a crime on your background check. Once again, and I don't think I can stress this enough. The only legal way to get rid of cats on your property is to trap them in a humane cat trap, which is easy to obtain, then turn them over to the animal control, Humane Society, or animal shelter, and let them deal with the cat. Once you complete that step you are off the hook for any criminal or civil legal problems. So do the right thing and involve the authorities so you stay protected and on the right side of the law.

    Alberto, lets not be so hard on the cat people. Many of them need psychological help. They usually are suffering from some traumatic break and need the attention of as many cats as possible to replace the emotional loss they have experienced in life. As a society we should be more concerned for the mental health of these cat peoples rather than call them stupid. They are hurting inside, however this is no excuse to tolerate the unsanitary conditions they create with the cat hoarding they practice. A balance of removing the homeless cats and getting psychological help for the cat hoarders seems to me a much better resolution for all concerned.

      They're causing species of birds to go extinct and they are causing pain to the animals they hunt. Its not like its their fault. Its their nature to hunt. But its a problem.

    • @CatfishBigg
      @CatfishBigg 9 лет назад +3

      +Karen Hanks no Karen, these Owls Hawks and Grackles are native animals who have been living here together for millions of years, part of a healthy predator prey balance. Domestic house cats are NOT native species, they do not belong here and have absolutely no benefit in our ecosystem. They need to be contained or removed. Period.

    I visited your web site you had on this video - HSUS.ORG/FERALCATS and found it to be completely lagging in any way to help - beyond a donation. There are NO links, no information, no videos, nothing more than calls for money. I would hope there is a bit more of information available than providing you with money I can spend on cat food here in my town. The problems with feral cats go way beyond YOUR need for money, they go to the roots of humanity, the caring for animals that others throw away. Where are the hints/tips/videos/support/groups/links? NOTHING on your site.

    Or, you know, its a sign of not wanting an invasive predatory species to decimate the local wildlife.
    I love cats, but the fact is that TNR is not a viable means of controlling the cat population.
    I just posted another comment on this video with a link to a simple breakdown of why TNR isn't effective - hopefully the owner of this channel will see fit not to censor these responses and you can take a look for yourself.
    PS: RUclips censorship is lame.

    We have a real cat problem here on Maui they're fed quite well most of them are but that really doesn't help the population of trying to get them spayed or neutered people go around and feed the cats all the time they're fed better than the homeless people but does not help the problem

    vasallizinni, Your assumption that people actually own tedhese feral cats is just plain wrong, no one owns them except the original people that abandoned and or dumped the poor cats in the first place. People that feed them only care about the cats, they don't want them doing their business everywhere either. My God could you have seen your self putting leashes with halters on any of those cats that you trapped??? Yeah probably not, because feral cats are wild cats that have probably never been held or even touched before. So I can't imagine the people feeding them putting them ueon leashes either, that just wouldn't work. I feed feral cats, because they were starving and yes I'm trying to catch them which is difficult since I'm disabled. I can't put these cats on leashes either. And you know what, they aren't my cats. My kitty is at home in my house, she's micro chipped and she is also fixed and she never leaves my house to run free in our neighborhood!! And do you want to know why I have done all of that for my cat, because I AM a responsible pet owner who loves her cat. Oh yeah and I only own one cat!! But one thing that these people do have is a great big a heart to not want to see a living breathing creature starve to death, through no fault of their own. All because someone wanted an Until cat, and then dumped it in your neighborhood. While that's just so great that you got rid of your feral cat population, remember this your going to end up with the same problem all over again, it's only a matter of time till it happens again, and it will happen. And do you want to know why that is, it's because of the ignorant people who want an Until Cat!!! They want a cat until it's time to move and I can't have a cat where they want to, until I'm tired of feeding it, until I want a kitten again because my cat is now an adult cat or Until my cat is old and it has health issues so I'll dump it and just get a kitten again. or until some some boob decides they need or want a new a kitty and it's all great Until it no longer works for them and they dump it in your neighborhood. And dump it they will!! And yes there are Until dogs too, you just may not always get to see them running around in your neighborhood but believe me they are there in the shadows. So believe me your feral population is going to come back because you have left your neighborhood without any feral cats at all to claim that territory as theirs. So yeah your feral population is going to come back with maybe even more than you had, No...not the ones that you had put to death via the hands of the Animal control people, but their blood is still on your hands!! And even though you may wish to sugar coat it by saying Oh they may have gotten adopted when you know darn good and well that isn't the case at all they were put to death probably via being gassed. They died because their former owners didn't give a rat's butt about them and

    • @cynthiawall8630
      @cynthiawall8630 10 лет назад

      @ vasallizinni, and they left them helpless and homeless with out anyone to care about them to love and pet them and feed them and or even play with them. Very few ever showed those poor cats any kindness or love, even though through no fault of their own they were left to their own devices. Cat hate being out in the cold and wet damp wet weather, they are actually very clean animals. They love a clean house and even a clean litter box, if their owner cleans their litter box the way it's suppose to be cleaned you wouldn't even know a cat is in someone's house. Cats love to be warm and comfortable, and they love people and and attention. Then you came along and you showed them even less love and consideration by having them put to death!! And while what I'm saying is very cold, I can't/won't sugar coat iI t to make you feel better so you can sleep better at night. I've owned both cats and dogs and have always had them altered so they wouldn't litter. I had an Until cat adopt me, she was with me for 17 years. Maybe next time you will consider TNR and just allow them to live out their lives, yes some will get hit by cars, some will probably be poisoned since people put out rat poison to kill rats, but they forget that anotake her animal may eat that rat be it a hungry cat or a dog. News flash feral cats don't live 15 years, they don't even live to be 10 years old either. They are lucky if they live 8 years. Kittens usually don't live to the age of 2 years old. Wow, and to think that you even gave them their last meal of chicken, before you said " Bye bye kittie, enjoy the animal shelter" !! Do you really think that they enjoyed being gassed to death??? Because that's what happened to them, they didn't adopt them out to anyone so they aren't living the good life anywhere unless you happened to trap someone's micro chipped cat because you didn't warn all of your neighbors in that area and even businesses like your suppose to. No they didn't stick them with a needle in their leg and inject them so they could go peacefully. No they died a cruel death because there were far too many of them to do it the kind way. All of those cats were put into a gas chamber and they were gassed to death!! And Yup you won your little bet and and you even got your precious money to do what you did, and to top off you sound so very proud of your self for what you did!! Wow, I pity you!!!!

      Cynthia Wall Maam, I am speechless. Your kindness and consideration gives me pause. My first reaction would be to counter you but I find your sensitivity charming. I truly believe you are a good person and you would rather there be no homeless cats in the world. I think you have a very lucky cat that you adopted. I wish you and your cat health and happiness. The world would be a cold place if it turned it's back on people such as you. I have nothing more to say except God bless you. I wish you and your cat a happy new year. Hugs.

    It seems I have struck a nerve with Puckle100 and described her life too close to reality. Now she is cyber stalking me and she can't get over her anger. This is also typical once you call a cat lady out into the open, which she definitely has the mental disease. Personally i think it was the weight thing but whatever it may be, it must really sting cause she can't leave me alone. I will keep her progress updated here. She is a perfect example, live and in true form. I predict that she is not done yet.

    I have the good fortune to own a small plot of land with good backstop where I can shoot with impunity so I do. I shoot and shoot and shoot and everyone around says there are hardly no more feral cats and they are grateful. No more cat shit in the shrubbery. No more feathers from murdered birds. The pet cats don't get diseases or knocked up all the time. I estimate I've killed at least 500 feral cats in the US between 1995 and now, probably more. Bagged the most recent one earlier today.

    Don't all those cats keep the pest population under control?
    I know farmers like to have feral cats around for just that.

    • @vasallizinni
      @vasallizinni 10 лет назад +5

      Actually, feedinbg those cats keeps the pest population booming. Cats often don't finish their food and the rodents feed on the left overs. Cats only really catch the sick diseased slow rodents, which leaves cats wide open for the transfer of diseases that harm humans and could potentially spread any new viruses right to humans in a manner faster than before homeless cats over populated our cities.

    • @cynthiawall8630
      @cynthiawall8630 10 лет назад +5

      @ alotosius. Yes.. you are 100% correct they do in fact keep the rodent population down. And usually farmers have cat of their own that they own. I know this to be true since my dad was in fact a dairy farmer years ago. He had a very large farm and we use to have 16-18 cats running around on our farm at any given time, and they were all of our cats. My Uncle who lived down the road about a quarter of a mile from our place also had cats as well on his farm. We never saw a lot of rodents on our farm due to us having cats. And I'll be darned there were three of us children growing up on our farm and none of us ever got sick due to our cats. We had a need to keep the rodent population down since we always had feed for the cattle and grain, etc... on our farm that the rodents would have just loved to eat. There's a huge need to keep the rodent population under control or they would eat up everything that was needed for planting and or foer feeding cattle and or horses. Cats were the best and fastest resource to catch and kill any and all rodents, since no one has time to put out traps to catch and kill them all.
