    Beautiful transformation!
    A while back, I brought in two terrified, feral, hissing cats from outside, they completely transformed once they saw my friendly orange tabby. Cats are social and look to others for cues on how to act and to check safety of environment. When the feral cats saw how happy and confident and healthy my orange cat was, it made them instantly feel comfortable. And when they saw me loving on and petting him, they came nervously running over wanting love from me too. Now they are friendly, social, love bugs. Animals and people can transform with a little time and love. And a friendly, social house cat can be a great tool for helping to heal fear and aggression in a feral or stray or abused cat (spay or neuter first)

Since then, by the time, they have become very friendly both with us and dogs. They simply needed time to adapt and feel safe

    What a great pair of cats, and of course they shouldn't be separated. I adopted an older pair of cats like that too. They were too bonded to separate, so they were adopted out together. Squeaky and Dez were so cute together. The slept together constantly and also groomed each other. Dez was a chunky calico, and Squeaky a slim and very anxious long hair black cat. Squeaky just worshiped the ground that Dez walked on, but was nervous around people. It was hilarious to see the way they acted. Nothing phased Dez, she was so sedate, and then their was Squeaky's adorable neuroticism. Sqeaky would squawk for attention, but when you reached for her, she'd cower in fear or run half the time. It used to make Ron laugh so hard. She would come and lay on us on her own terms. i guess we were safer if we were laying down or something. I can't describe the hero worship she had for Dez though. She just looked at Dez w/ utter adoration and Dez was her ultimate happy place.

    It took me 2 months once to get through to an abandoned cat who felt so unsure and betrayed by people. I did it by feeding them and then leaving them alone, no pressure, but I spent as much time as possible out in the yard so they could observe me and it helped a lot. The kitty “came with” a house I rented. She stayed in yard, front and back but mainly in the back, fenced yard. After she accepted me I got her into a good cat rescue. ❤

    Brilliantly well done, on all fronts. Yes, it is true, "some cats will be saved, and some not", because there are lots of feral cats out there and resources are limited, and we have to be practical about what can be done and what, reasonably speaking, cannot. You persevered and were inspired to introduce Philly Pokey (great name, btw), and you also understand that both Grey and Philly Pokey will be adopted as a pair, which makes complete sense. I'm humbled by your experience, your compassion, and your level-headed assessments of what can be reasonably be done in cases like these. Keep up the great work!

    I worked with a cat like that for 18 months. He had been surrendered because his elderly owner had to go into assisted living. He was so traumatized by the whole surrender. He was so aggressive he bit a volunteer who needed stitches. No one could even remove food from his cage or change his litter box. I sat outside his cage for months on end, not looking at him and just talking out loud. It was such slow progress, but eventually he came out of the cage, although he ran back in as soon as I looked at him. It got to the point, finally, where he jumped on my lap and allowed me to pet him. Eventually, he was adopted into a really good home.

    Yeah, that was a tough rescue. I think the winning ingredient was that the Angry One, the Tabby, was a boy. Tom Cats look for buddies. If it were a female, well, the girls can be intrinsically a lot more territorial. I once had a Rescue blow up in my face. I was trying to bring in a female feral from the parking lot, a year after I had some success bringing in Calico Peggy who had been the previous Parking Lot Cat, probably the mother of Angie who I tried to rescue. I gave Angie her own room, but she would find or make some cat cave, being territorial against me. After a month Angie began coming out more and so I took down the barrier and she had run of the whole apartment. Calico Peggy wanted nothing to do with it, and so one time I opened the door and Peggy took off. I had loved Calico Peggy, and so I threw Angie out with the hopes that Peggy would come back. So I lost them both. Yeah, Feline Rescue is difficult and sometimes you lose. It'll make me cry to tell you, but, well, the cats can lose hard too. Peggy died. She had moved down to a territory including an Apartment Complex managed by a Korean Lady, and I was once Peace Corps Korea and so I remembered some Korean, and the Lady knew some English. Peggy was in her Territory now and so she would put out food, and encourage me to take Peggy back, but Peggy would escape. Then tragedy struck... Peggy got her back broke somehow, and the Korean Lady came and told me. I took Peggy to the Vets to euthanize her, but she died in my arms while we waited. For a while I was feeding Angie outside, but I think that Angie got shut into an empty apartment by work men, and must have starved to death. Yeah, if only they had both gotten along, they'd be part of my multicat household today, but females come with problems. But I really did love those two and so it breaks my heart.

    We have a grumpy cat that hissed and growled at everything... except her kitten brother. We had to keep them together, but he died of a kidney disease... its taken her a while to warm up to the new addition we adopted from the shelter, but its definitely not the same bouncing off the walls playing at all hours of the day relationship anymore.

      @@lloydhlavac6807 That probably means she was separated from her litter mates early. They really do do better when they're raised together. I foster a lot of kittens, and it's always hard to have a single. They're so sad and lonely. Sometimes it can't be helped though, but it's best to pair them up.

    • @lloydhlavac6807
      @lloydhlavac6807 18 дней назад

      @@krisniznik3953 Unfortunately I never knew her back story, where she came from, etc. She was super friendly, and even jumped up into my lap as I sat in my van the first night we met. She looked well fed, and she had already been spade, but no clipped ear like a TNR, and I never saw any signs up for a missing cat, so I couldn't help but think someone dumped her. A vet estimated she was only 2 or 3 years old when she first showed up. But yeah, she could not stand other cats. A neighbor couple took care of her at first, but when more strays showed up there I discovered she was sleeping up against the front on my house at night, to get away from them. Once I adopted her, and she realized my yard was her yard, and this was her home, she'd chase off other cats that trespassed. But she always seemed pretty happy, and had human company. Oh, and thank you very much for fostering kittens. I volunteered at a local no-kill cat shelter for a while.

    They're so precious but I REALLY wish those sweet boys didn't have to go through another traumatic experience with moving into yet another home. They don't understand that they're in foster care and they have given their hearts to their current caretaker. While I understand being able to "foster fail" isn't possible all the time, in this case there is no way I could let them go, they would be MINE. And that is why I can no longer foster cats. 😄
