I'm 29 years old. Went out for drinks tonight with my older neighbor in his "classic" bmw. He pulls out his "cd" case. And pops this album in. Tells me this is last album made before 💀 of Rick James. I haven't stopped playing this since. I think this is real music. Maybe just a catchy beat but this beats lil baby Lil Wayne and lil whatever. I know I'm older now and should be mature, but I couldn't help blast this past my neighbors house later that night...... As I creeped at 5mph with binoculars , watching him 😂. Remember guys, somebody's always watching you This song is what the kids say is fire 🔥. Never have I been able to dance, but dam sure did find my rhythm 🪘 to this.
He made one more . It was released after he passed called "Deeper Still". He was about to launch a comeback. Another good CD. BTW, Teena Marie and George Duke also released CDs after their passing.
I'm really pissed off that Mr Rick James has not yet been inducted into the Rock and roll Hall of Fame I'm sure everyone can agree that he is long overdue.
Although this album was a commercial flop, it is also true that this record contains some of the funkiest, honest, and most powerful work Rick had ever done. Prison gave this man time to reflect, to write, and to get back to basics. Rick must have heard every single note in his head. Thought thru every beat, nuance, and bassline while laying on that Fulsome prison cot. Upon release, ratty notebook in hand, and free from addiction he scraped the old band back together. With help from Danny La'Melle and the support of a few notable friends ( Snoop, Bobby Womack, Charlie Wilson, et al) created a high-quality explosive masterwork for future generations to dance too. I am sixty now. I bought this CD as soon as it hit 23 years ago. This Funk sounds even better now than it did then, shit even more so given the bullshit that passes for music these days. So don't sleep on Grandpa. You just might find some dynamite like this in his record collection. Like the man once said:...... My Name is RICK JAMES, BITCH!! enjoy. For all the grandpa's out there. Moe in Dallas.
coldest shit he ever did. Ive been bumping this since 1997 and whenever I play it for my friends its like the first time they've heard it. Stone City Band is outstanding
Rick James, keeping it real! This song should be a current theme in today's society! We are being watched by cameras everywhere. Ahead of his time, Mr. Rick James!
I've been listening to Rick James my whole life, these new artists are shit compared to Rick. We lost the King of Funk, love and miss you. I know God is enjoying your concerts.
wow i never heard this album at all let alone a single track .. think what you want about Rick, but this was actually a very good track! im impressed. i thought he was really through by this time.
Very nice song, but it's a trip hearing him say somebodies watching you knowing it wasn't to much after this LP the he passed. He even said something about your clone could be watching you. IJS.😒😣
Everything I know about Funk is from my big brother Gibson trowery from Coatesville Pennsylvania my big brother turned me on to everything he was my everything I'm talking about Deep Purple I'm talking about Funk I'm talking about hippie shit back in the day and all my culture come from him I just started years ago like in James Brown it's not understanding that 90% of Music being sampled was James Brown's music or his Beats or whatever but Rick James his phone was something I didn't understand because I thought that George Clinton Bootsy Collins but actually Rick James sings in his funk George Clinton has so many people in the group you don't know if it's him saying or whoever but you cannot deny Rick James voice how do you think that everybody in George Clinton or Parliament Funkadelic was George Clinton was George Clinton but I was young
It's funny how you can ReDiscover somebody or a group in 40 years and you thought you knew the group but I was ignorant as hell Rick James was a bad mother fucker?
The songs on this album were written while Rick was in prison...His best work that nobody knows about!
This is RJ doing funk(pure George Clinton) without the punk. Give me the old classic punk funk tunes and ballards.
