    I’ve just acquired this very trimmer this week from Memorial Day 24’ sales. It actually feels a little on the heavy side w/ the dual 8.0ah XC batteries.

    I have absolutely no need for string trimmer! That being said, I have the Milwaukee M18 Quick Lock string trimmer. I purchased it because it came with a blower, 8.0 battery and rapid charger.
    My intention was to sell the string trimmer for $160, the 8.0 battery and charger $160, so that I can get the blower for like $30
    However, I was helping somebody and their string trimmer was broken, I just so happen to have mine still in my car (just in case somebody responded to my ad) I used it and now I love it!
    I really have no use for it, but II try to use it whenever I can because it’s such a fun tool.
    And the blower it’s just amazing, I should’ve bought that along time ago.

      That's cool! I haven't tried the blower yet, but it's a nice option to have with this power head unit.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder

      You got that right, lol! I asked the Milwaukee product manager last October about that and he didn't give me any hints about when that will happen.

    • @donelias1981
      @donelias1981 Месяц назад +2

      I agree, I don't know why they would make this a dedicated trimmer and not just upgrade the quik-lok trimmer head as I have the broom attachments and those truly tax the single battery head and a boost in power would make those more useful

    • @txvet7738
      @txvet7738 Месяц назад +1

      @@donelias1981 oh I bet it would! Since I just converted over to the quik-lok system from Ryobi’s 40V attachment capable system, all because of Milwaukee’s reciprocal scissor head attachment, they can hold on it now….for my wallets sake, lol!

    I bought one and ultimately returned it. For everyday use it’s extremely heavy compared to a stihl fs131r. I like the quik lok, but that’s much lighter

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  Месяц назад +1

      I understand where you're coming from, Michael. This wouldn't be my first choice if I was using it for my everyday trimmer.
      It really excels in the tall weeds. One thing I didn't point out is how it never jammed on me with the weeds. Other gas trimmers I've used would require me to stop regularly and clean it out.

    • @michaelholly88
      @michaelholly88 Месяц назад

      The power is actually unbelievable and I’m used to using the bigger stihl units. if I could get past the weight of the two batteries, I probably would have kept it. I liked seeing battery gauge where your hands are and the speed selector. Curious to see if two forge batteries would lighten it up

    For thick brush, once or twice a year to answer your Q in pinned comment, for certain trails, I actually use the quik lok hedge trimmer for that. Yeah, it's heavy but it takes care of the saplings and thin branches and stuff like that. I can actually cut some 1-1.5" stems if I hit it from both sides. I have some sections of trails that are blueberries and I shaped a tunnel underneath them and so that's what I use. I have the old style straight shaft M18 trimmer and also quik lok string trimmers. I prefer the older one. It's lighter. I use that on the lawn areas though, not really the brush. Also I use a thicker line, not that red stuff that comes with them. It's stuff like too thick for a string trimmer but not really needing a field and brush mower. Basically 1 year growth at the end of the season.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  Месяц назад

      The tunnel on the trail sounds pretty cool! I recently reviewed the Quik-Lok 4-tipped brush blade attachment. That works well on saplings too.

      @@MarkThomasBuilder I might actually try the hedge trimmer on the lawn. The lawn would probably much prefer that being snipped with a scissor action rather than violently ripping the leaf tips off. It really is a more useful cutting tool for me in many cases. I also use it to cut some bamboo that keeps spreading . The one ore two year bamboo stems. Anything beyond tyhat you pretty much need a chain saw.

    Seems like a workhorse. I’d be curious of long term work and how your back feels. I have the regular quick lock trimmer and sometimes feel it in my lower back after trimming for more than a half hour at a time

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  Месяц назад +1

      This comes with a shoulder strap, which I didn't use. I didn't notice any lower back issues after using this. It plows though the tall stuff very fast, so the work gets done faster.

    Does anyone know if they will be releasing a Quik-Lok version of this? Is there a downside to Quick-Lok that I'm not aware of? I just don't understand why one wouldn't want that.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  23 дня назад +1

      That's a good question. I was talking with a Milwaukee product manager and asked the same question. He couldn't say much about it, but my prediction is that one will be launching one this summer.
      The Quik Lok attachments work great and there's nothing wrong with them. Bigger lawn care companies prefer to have dedicated units, which increases their productivity. Quik Lok is great for someone starting out or a homeowner.

    Mark Thomas, edging that sidewalk like a pro!
    It doesn’t sound powerful, but it sure acts like it is! Were You running 105 line on it? 095 would probably be the best compromise. My wife is in charge of running the ‘weed whipper.’ I do the mowing. She likes to run it. It is the first Gen Echo 56 Volt, and it runs as well as or better than a gas model. It runs well, but I don't like it as the trigger interlock and grip are fatiguing. Now the 4.0 Ah battery is not taking full charge, and a new battery is prohibitive. And Echo changed the system, with different batteries. It is a straight shaft with motor near the operator, and lately the motor and drive system are sounding rough?
    I would not buy a gas model now, unless I was a commercial landscaper. Some tools/ applications are actually good replacements for gas, and modern battery weed eaters fit this bill. My Wife usually lets the ditch and mailbox area up at the road grow some, and then attacks it, in answer to your question. We live in a rural area much like You, but my property nowhere as nice as yours. Take care! 👍💪🇺🇸😊

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  Месяц назад +1

      Hey George! I'm not sure what size line comes standard in that trimmer. I'm guessing it's .095 by the looks of it. It's nice line that holds up well.
      I never tried the older Echo battery line trimmer, but have their newer one in the attachment system and it's still going strong.
      My property started out as a farm field many years ago with a small wooded area. I have a big tree to take out soon, which may be the topic of another video. 😀👍

    I wonder how much the weed wacker weighs with one battery now they put two batteries so it weighs even more and would probably be kind of awkward and it looks like this person that is demonstrating this seems to be kind of awkward like it's heavier to hold and awkward to move around like he's about to fall this is what we see this is our opinion we would not recommend this product

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  Месяц назад

      I didn't feel awkward using this, but I haven't used it long enough to see if I want the shoulder strap or if I want to move the handle loop. I was also in a ditch part of the time, which is a challenge in itself.
