Not a nice feeling to be chased by an avalanche. After getting away my legs were weak instantly fell after first step off the sled. It took me almost 10 minutes before I had a clear mind again. Stay safe! Wear Avy Packs.
Kc Yukon ..Adrenaline may be a word to use, but experiencing it is something all together different. I threw up 30 minutes after the first time I was buried and my body and mind was not steady for a good hour.
Jeff Pierce ..EVERYONE riding in the back country needs BOTH. Most people in our group are at least level 1 certified and many of us level 2 working on 3. As soon as you are buried yourself or witness a friend die it becomes a reality. Please go do this before you have to go through that like some of us have. No, there is not a cure all, but I can promise when your buddy or family member gets buried and dies because you didn’t know how to find him correctly and quickly it will be much harder to deal with.
Happened to me once while skiing when I was a teenager, it cracked more than 100m above me on the steeper part and I managed to avoid it by going faster than I ever had and getting to a safe point, the avalanche missing me by no more than 2 seconds. Had my avy pack but was alone so it wouldn't have saved me. Had to sit for a few minutes before I was able to continue.
Such a nice simple and smaller sized hill, yet all that concrete like snow is produced and will take your life. Things happen fast. Glad everyone appears to be okay.
Ya that bump that threw him off his sled was probably what hurt him no helmet probably smashed his chest and face off the machine before he was tossed off

Of all the avalanche videos I've seen this is the best at showing the scale of it all. At first it looked like no big deal I'm thinking just drive through it! Then it becomes a wall. I guess you can't tell how high or steep the bowl is. What a dream ride otherwise
Exactly what Ive been saying to myself for the last hour while watching. There are so many titled "Avalanche/Close Call" where I could hardly see any snow moving. Id say a good 50% are lame videos or maybe its the way they got their GoPro's set up?
Would be nice if we got some decent video of the slope after it was all done, but at least we got to see just how close the guy came to being under 5 or 6' of snow instead of a few yards in front of it.
@@medmark77 He's not entirely wrong. You can have fun and be safe, but frequently having more fun means accepting more risk. Go watch some of the wingsuit terrain flying videos. That's way more fun than plain vanilla skydiving. The downside is that despite what a lot of people think, you actually can have too much fun, and sometimes you don't know where the line is until you've crossed it.

I know stay calm and keep your head about you, but until you’ve experienced it, you have no idea. I’ve been lucky three times, but two of my friends have not been. look closely, the rider tries to outrun the avvy but nose dives the sled and then him and the sled do a full frontflip then he gets ragdolled for a little bit. I think his helmet got thrown off

By the way I'm pretty sure he was wearing a helmet, it looks like the same sled and kit at 0:26 and he did fall pretty hard so he could have lost his helmet there. Thanks for pointing that out. I was riding yesterday in high avalanche danger and watched several people get up into country they shouldn’t have been in. It’s not my place to tell anyone their business so that’s not my objective. My objective is to try and save someone from having to experience what I’ve experienced and a possible tragic situation. Long story short I rode up to them and asked if they had checked the avalanche report. They they were pretty rude actually and the know it all type. I said “let me show you a picture” and showed them a picture of a friends lifeless body being pulled out of a hole over 12 feet deep. They weren’t too rude after that and wanted to know everything they could about being safe in the backcountry. I spent an hour or so pointing out nearby areas and why they are dangerous. They had no idea and their attitude changed pretty fast once they realized how much danger they were actually in. Educate yourself I beg you. It’s not worth it and you can still have an awesome day on the mountain without putting yourself in these elevated danger areas. I do it 3 or 4 times a week so there are plenty of places to stay safe.

You never know but the knowledge they got today could save one of their lives. I'm lucky I don't have a picture like yours but I do have some pictures of my buddies foot that got destroyed by a dirt bike because he wasn't wearing MX boots that I show to people I see riding without boots. I always try to learn things from the more experienced guys out there. I think if you pay attention and listen you can learn something from almost anyone you meet in life. Notice the ability to react to an issue from distance. Skiers and snowboarders don't have that luxury at all. Even at max effort it takes minutes to get to the accident by foot
If you slow down the video it appears that the guy is Airborne on the sled at the 52 seconds mark and slams back into the ground and then falls off looks like he hit the ground pretty damn hard 😬
I know this is an old video. You could see the slide starting with the rider who was filming, the other riders noticed but the genius who almost died wasn’t paying attention apparently. I'm not seeing that. It looks like the guy who got hurt was trying to outrun it. He had cleared the leading edge when he crashed. He clears the leading edge at 0:52 and crashes at 0:54.
Two at a time is why it could have been worse, but it's very unlikely that it happened because they were both up there at the same time. It's possible that the downhill guy triggered it remotely, but it's far more likely that the uphill guy did it when turning across the slope.
He lost his sled trying to outrun it and got flopped down on the hard snow. Avy had no part in it other then causing him to dork up. Been there, you get stunned and may even crack ribs.

The part on a mountain without trees, is the part you try to avoid in winter. Otherwise an avalanche (with the right snow conditions ) is very possible. And yes, this video might not show it, but huge masses of snow are very, very scary. And these masses getting mobile are pure horror, when you are caught in it
Close, I set one like that off with a piped out zrt800 triple, with a 2" paddle track up in Alaska years ago and I just barely out ran it. But the hill was twice as steep. I would give left nut to have it on go pro vid. LoL👍😂☃️☃️☃️☃️☃️☃️☃️☃️☃️☃️☃️

I've never been in an avalanche, but from what little the man experienced, it seems like he is being dramatic...it barely touched him. Unless its the crash that he is in pain about.
I rigged my sled to drop charges with the push of a button. I seek out sliding snow for thrills. There is NOTHING more exhilarating then having a Tsunami of snow nipping at the tracks.
Never underestimate a man’s ability to quietly focus on a problem until the appropriate time to act, kudos!

I never understood why sledders like to see who can get the highest up an open face by riding straight up it 🤦🏼♂️. Isnt it more fun to just ride around and maybe do some jumps in deep snow?
It requires coordination, throttle control and balance - it's a way to show off your skill.
Kind of seems like a silly sport honestly...more and more emissions, so so so many avalanches triggered by the heavier machinery and the ability to access more terrain in a short amount of time , glad everyone survived this...

Otherwise an avalanche (with the right snow conditions ) is very possible.
And yes, this video might not show it, but huge masses of snow are very, very scary. And these masses getting mobile are pure horror, when you are caught in it

Close, I set one like that off with a piped out zrt800 triple, with a 2" paddle track up in Alaska years ago and I just barely out ran it. But the hill was twice as steep. I would give left nut to have it on go pro vid. LoL👍😂☃️☃️☃️☃️☃️☃️☃️☃️☃️☃️☃️

I've never been in an avalanche, but from what little the man experienced, it seems like he is being dramatic...it barely touched him. Unless its the crash that he is in pain about.
