I saw an avalanche once when I was trekking in Nepal in 1992. The entire side of one of the Annapurna’s peeled off. A mountain over 8000 metres in height. Never will I forget the sight or the sound of it. Un-frikn believable…
Wow..very lucky! Thabk God you were able to stay afloat. I would deff love to know if you had any type of avalanche gear on. If not wow, truly an angel was protecting you that day.
As someone who drove trails most of their life and has gone out into the mountains a few times trust me as fun as trail riding is it’s a whole new experience mountain riding
Video is a good reminder for anyone that goes out into the backcountry in winter why you should take an AST course, carry avalanche safety gear and check the avalanche forecast.
As an ex-pro snowboarder who accessed most of our terrain with snowmobiles, the main goal was always backcountry safety. I saw far too many accidents, and most within the snowmobile community. If you are on a sled, in uncontrolled terrain, and you haven't taken any one of the multiple courses available, you are what we consider a "kook." Dangerous not only for yourself, but for others around you as well. I would hope that you have gone through all of the necessary courses, and know and understand how to use a beacon. Your response to the avy-pack makes me think you really don't know what you are doing back there, as they have a much higher successfull recovery rate than transceivers. But nothing helps like the knowledge of reading the terrain - knowing which "aspects" of the mountain are safe and unsafe on any given day - and most importantly, keeping a good read on the weather conditions. That slope looked quite windloaded to me, and the crown of that avy was over 2' deep. Don't rely on "guardian angels" in the future, be prepared and know how to avoid it in the first place.
CS- IsKu it wasn't really bad advice, he is right, it does look really wind loaded and it does look like an avalanche path, also the preparation is the bast thing you can do to avoid this.
Could you imagine being buried for about ten minutes then as you’re just about to die you hear rescuers digging you out and they finally get to you just in time...only to realise it’s a bear. That’d be just my luck.
My friend was in an avalanche in Switzerland. He had to cut out his nephew. The tourguide died unfortunately. Very traumatic. My friend had read in a magazine few days before the trip in case of an avalanche you need to make swimming movements with your arms.. as if you want to swim up. He did. This might have saved him. Also at the moment if happened he thought "Not now!!!" as he had certain other people on his mind that needed him in life.
That looked like the big slide path just to the right after the lake up at Gorman Lake near Golden. Boy, this guy was soooo luck to survive that. Oh that slides all the time that’s way there is usually no tracks on it.
What are you susposed to do as ut breaks? I read that in yours it was to steep to do anything but if it wasnt quite that steep do you keep riding up? Angle it?
THAT was disturbing to watch! He got lucky. Out here another guy got caught up in one, had one of those deploy packs and when they unburied him, he still had it on and was gone.
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, being understood by what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their reasonings, and their senseless hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and they exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible mankind, of birds, four-footed animals, and crawling creatures. Therefore God gave them up to vile impurity in the lusts of their hearts, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for falsehood, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. Romans 1:20-25
