@@Krazy_Shorts The whole drum solo part of the music is in the dance style of the Charleston but from 2.40 he goes nuts with a fast rim shot beat ( pa- pe pa - pa- pa- pe pa- pa) over a fast single stroke roll . If you wanted to dance it you'd better not be a heavy 66 year old dude like me. If you wanna play it you'd better not be an amateur, wanna be drummer like me.
Buddy was not happy with his bands between 1979-1983-personnel changed more frequently than Sigfried and Roy changed costumes. All bands have their lull years. By 1984, however, he was more "settled" in and content with steadier personnel. I know he REALLY loved his last band... the '86 band.
I agree that heads must’ve rolled after that false start but Buddy was a task master and always wanted things done just right. His big bands were always superb and missteps like this were a rarity I’m sure. Either that or band members who erred would be looking for a new job.
Great drummer but you should never stop the band, especially on television. You’re a team, you keep playing…if the first few seconds in there a mistake you can start again but you don’t let the audience know who’s fault it was.
The one that was built for him by Ludwig, you can get the one form the buddy rich drum set that Ludwig makes probably the best is one of the classic versions like the 50’s or 60’s
@@jimmyjames4487 ??you’re hella fucking rude cause not everybody plays the drums in the world. ppl have to actually get the chance to LEARN about the culture. dumb fuck. you get cussed out when you come at others crazy for no fucking reason
He is not holding them wrong...that's called ''Traditional Grip'' common used in Jazz and if we follow the logic of Buddy Rich according to him this is the right way to play...I support his logic even if I myself somethimes play with matched grip some of the things in traditional grip are much easier than matched grip.
If you know Buddy, you know those musicians got grilled after this performance for that false start
Oh they absolutely did. Buddy was a hawk.
Yup, and the second try wasn’t much better.
haha anyone would get pissed.
@@geometricart7851 Buddy Rich is a different kind of pissed off...
Both! They didn’t nail the second one either!
On the bright side, we all got to listen to that crisp drum intro twice!
Buddy Rich is probably the one reason I wish I was born a generation earlier just to be able to watch this man is something else
Saw him twice and was absolutely floored !!
The absolute best , seen him 5 times in my life , so lucky !!
Unique fast Charleston " sticking " towards the end has never been heard before or since. Sensational , unique drummer.
I know nothing about drumming. What exactly is "charleston sticking" Can you tell me the exact time in the video he's doing it?

I’m sure it’s been close to 40 years when he grilled this band for not coming in on time, but I can still feel him yelling at them today.

Best of the best and never will be repeated.
I’m glad I missed the bus ride after that. lol
When he doubles up on that roll. Goodness me that's quick.

Gene Krupa & Buddy. The best!
The drums deserved better than the brass section was giving.
Does anyone know why he preferred electric bass to acoustic bass? I figured he would be a purist.
C'mon really. If you played drums you wouldn't be asking this.
It's simple, electric bass cuts and can be heard easier for most drummers. Simple.
