- With AFL 23 under a week away, I was lucky enough to get a hands on preview of the game, and give all my thoughts on what's new, and what's different. Thanks to Big Ant Studios for having me in, the access is always appreciated! More content to come over the week!

Good to see the cricketers aligning
Great to see some footage. Keen to know if tackling is totally based on % or user input for high tackle, in the back etc. That was a big Evo 2 frustration for me. Also, love the moonwalk at 20:29 in the centre square.
The best part about looking at this game is the little details they have added to the action like even the ruckman getting a knee up in a contest
Considering the budget of the afl games compared to frachises like 2k with nba and even wwe, as well as EA with fifa especially, this is a big step up. The fact that hundreds of players have been created to look authentic plus the openings for the game to try and create the atmosphere of an actual game- its truly a massive push for afl industry in gaming.
It will never be as popular as lots of other sports games due to it mainly being an australian sport and not followed world wide.
But this is a great foundation to add even more stuff for another followup game and actually looks like its hoing to be an enjoyable experience!
2k games are trash nowadays

How is the sound of the crowd?? Does it change as the game progresses?? Louder as the scores get closer, towards an and of a game etc??

From being a heavy fifa player all my life i remember dreaming as a teenager of having an AFL game that represents the same quality of 2k/fifa as far as graphics/AI/gameplay but due to the sport not being popular in the world i never thought it would be a thing especially when it comes to devs as big as EA etc but this looks bloody awesome. Definately keen to check this out 👍

Nice video bro. Deffs got me keen for this game. I do have some worries. As good as the quarter time huddles and change room schenes are good. If it's the exact same footage every game and not slightly different from time to time I feel like it will be over played and not as great. If u no what I mean. Seeing the same white board and the same players sitting in the same spots. Still very keen tho. Keep up the good work mate

Great video! Can’t wait to pick this one up! Do you know if they are still going to have the commentators as announced this being Anthony Hudson and Hamish McLachlan Daisy Pearce, Daniel Harford, Kelli Underwood and Jason Bennett. I could only hear Anthony Hudson and Garry Lyon during the video not sure if they will be adding the other ones still. Anyways great to see a insight in the game.

Thanks for the video. Jeez the AI's decision making looked ridiculous at times. 1st qtr the dogs get it just outside their 50, then they switch to a pack contest test just I side 50 on the opposite side, then handball it to a player who looked like they were gonna kick for goal but instead, sprays it further wide outside 50, plater marks it and plays on immediately running into a Richmond player for a turnover 😂

This game has some pretty good detail compared to AFL Evo 1 and 2. Glad we can get our hands on a footy game with loads of content.
Wish we could hear what the coach is telling the player's in the huddle hope they put it in the game

I was put off buying recent versions of the game as it looked like players were being run down and caught holding the ball on almost every play. If that feature isn't so prevalent now, I might buy it.
15:13 I love how Shai Bolton was defaulted to the banana when he was 45 out in front. Not sure why the kick came off as a drop punt though.

cant believe how much of an upgrade this looks, compared to evo2
Well you’d hope so considering evo 2 was released in 2020 and we now have next gen consoles
@@tristanbakes1990 It's not just graphically, gameplay wise it's lightyears ahead of that garbage Evo 2.
Can you explain this lightning years of difference in gameplay. Just name three differences that are markedly improved please?

The Richmond song still sings risking head and skin instead of risking head and shin thought they would've fixed that up

Hey dean, just wondering if theres a distinct difference in the higher rated players and lower rated in how they handle the ball and are always defending attackers etc.
Game options for AI tactics, ball movement styles, pushing a spare behind ball etc.
Are there other camera views to play the game?

I wanna know if they have made the deliberate out of bounds call more often cos I swear I never got a deliberate out of bounds calm in AFL evo 2. Also, did they fix having so much Gold Coast fans at a Collingwood MCG game, like it was ridiculous the amount of fans you got for an interstate team in Melbourne in evo 2?

Deano, Surely you play as the hawks for manager mode this season
Goal kicking seems too easy once you get a hold of the timing. Any mentions of a pro mode option for controls. For someone familiar with cricket 22’s pro mode options I always found using both joysticks as a more enjoyable experience.
They got Treloar throwing the ball in the game as well. So realistic haha
Heya new here solid content!! Game actually looks half decent for once!! Did it run at 60 fps on the ps5?

The player size scaling is all over the shop. They look like giants closer to the camera and ants on the far side of the field.

Anyone remember when the Wicked Witch AFL games came out and the AI just chipped the ball around the 50 line and never actually had a shot at goal? Check out 4:10 in this video and we can re-live that. Again a little bit at 7:40.
Overall, I'm pleasantly surprised.
I hated the WW games but the one thing they did well (in AFL Evolution, I think) was a whole lot of sliders to change AI gameplay settings. The game was awful but you could create your own settings for things like run speed, tackle distance, umpire strictness for various rules, etc. and by sharing those on Bigfooty, I was able to get some really realistic and fun gameplay.
I hope BigAnt have included that.

This game looks good I'm getting it on ps5 later on today very impressive graphics its come along way since the original on the old-schooled Nintendo entertainment system we use to have back in the day due to money issues we were forced to sell it along with all the games
hey dean, were you able to change the camera angle? in fifa you can change the angle of the camera and it makes it much more of an immersive experience!

5:33 I would’ve ran the ball up further to try get more open options in the 50. But what you did is also good. Liked the content keep it up. Also where are you being able to play this cause on my ps5 it still says that it needs to wait for like a release date
question, can you play on online coop season mode? Being able to do a season or career mode with a friend would be awesome

I still think they should have stolen the bowling mechanic from their cricket game for the set shot goal kicking. I think that would be really satisfying.
