This is a great stash busting project. It takes less than half of a skein of most yarns. Making it the perfect instant gratification project too!
Get 2 twisted headband knitting patterns. One for beginners & one for advanced beginners.

This was the first thing I’ve ever made and since ive seen this video I’ve made a headband for myself, my Mom, sister, sister in law, toddler and 2 infant nieces.

I've knit several of these for my craft booth, and IMHO if you're going for a more "organic" look, ditch the "clean edge" which for me, just looks too commercially made. Very nicely done tutorial.Thank you.

Hi there! I'm a beginner and love working on this headband, I think I'm almost halfway through the knitting. I know that the pattern says that blocking is not necessary, but if I were to block it, would it be better to do that before or after the stitching the twist?

Hey, I'm a beginner and took a while for me to figure it out but hope this helps:
If you use the long tail cast on method the working yarn should be on the side of the needle that 'faces' you. Slip the first stitch to your working needle like you're imagining you're doing a purl and then purl and knit normally until you reach the last 2 stitches. The second last stitch is a purl and then slip the last stitch over like you're doing a purl but don't purl it.
For R2, instead of knitting the first stitch like normal, go inside the loop and have the empty needle poke behind the needle holding on to the stitches. Knit that stitch like normal and then purl and knit until your last 2 stitches. The second last stitch is a purl and then poke the needle inside the loop so that it goes out from behind the needle, knit and that should be it.
The abbreviations were a little complicated for me to understand but watching a few YT videos did help. Good luck.
Everyone says beginners but they explain it to fast for beginner. You now when it's first time it takes practice to learn the pearl & net.
you can tap the gear icon and slow down the speed or you can hit your J key on keyboard and go back 10 seconds or tap L key and go forward 10 seconds very helpful to repeat in this way

Does all that bulk make it uncomfortable to wear?
I had to try it on again with your question in mind. I don't think it's bulky at all and I find it very comfortable. With this yarn I think it's more of a fall pattern. I'd want something bulkier to ward of my Kansas cold wind for the winter. Thank you for asking, let me know if you have any other questions. :) I'm off to knit this in a super bulky yarn. Thank you!
@@Bromefields thanks for the answer. I live in Finland and my winters here are extremely cold. Nothing like the Kansas winter I experienced. I don’t wear hats because of my long hair that I usually wear in a ponytail or bun. I don’t have your yarn available, so will have to find the equivalent. If you make a bulky band, can you mention the details of making it? Thanks!

I just followed your tutorial and made this piece using a gorgeous dark plum color in chunky and it's so so nice. Very comfortable too. I'm a fairly new knitter and look for straight forward instructional videos that are clear and easy to follow. Yours was exactly what I needed and I learned a new pattern. 👍😀
I watched this video at least 10 times and I've had to start over this project several times. It's confusing.
Your instructions on the advanced pattern here are different from the PDF. Ugh
I had the same thought! I kept flipping back and forth for some clarity. The only thing that I can assume is because she started out with the "basic" pattern on the example and then switched to demonstrating the clean edge, the cadence got messed up. The written out explanation by another user (SpringyMayo) above helped me figure it out!
Maybe I'm not understanding where the confusion started (nor have I looked at the printed pattern) but as a semi-experienced knitter - here are my thoughts:
Up until 5:30, she's demonstrating the "beginner" version:
Cast on and then every row (both wrong side (WS) & right side (RS)) is pkpkpkpkpk....p)
The "advanced beginner" clean edge demo starts at 6:07 but I can see how it might be confusing because the presenter didn't start over from cast-on. I disagree with springymayo a bit, here is what I take from it:
Cast on
1st row (WS): slip first stitch purl-wise (with your yarn in front like you are about to purl), then kpkpkpkp...k, then slip the last stitch purl wise (with your yarn in front like you are about to purl).
2nd row (RS): knit into the back loop of the first stitch (your needle pointed to the floor and to the left, going through the stitch on the side of the needle that is NOT facing you). kpkpkpkp....k, then knit into the back of the last stitch.
etc. continue, alternating WS and RS rows until it reaches desired length.
Hopefully that helps!
