I live in the Bahamas and our new rental home has these concealed cisterns installed. I had a few sleepless nights when the WC started to run. The plumbers here aren't familiar with these systems and they have no hesitation to grab a jackhammer and blast away. And there is no way on to match tiles and grout. Your video is perfect. I was able to fix this in minutes. It was easier than fixing a classic cistern. We have high calcification in the water here so I cleaned up the float valve and what you call siphon as you advised and all is perfect now. If you come this way you can stay in one of my rentals on me any time. Thank you!

Dear Roger. I can’t begin to tell you how much this has helped me today. Our system is a Geberit but essentially the same and when I saw the water slowly running into the pan I was horrified it might mean a total strip out of the bathroom wall! You have considerably added to the state of human happiness in our house! Many thanks, Colin

      Hi Colin
Thank you, I am very glad to hear it.
I think we are all lucky to have RUclips, I have fixed a few things in my house with the help of videos.
The fact that some plumbers start hacking off tiles is a sad indictment of their unwillingness to ask the question that took you to this video.

I am living in Germany and I never comment on RUclips Vids but you just saved me a ton of time and probably a ton of money. I just wanted to say THANKYOU!!!!!!!111!! WC water was running and would not shut off. Started as a trickle at 1st then got worse and worse. I just disassembled everything like you did, cleaned it all up and rinsed out the water tank. There was a bunch of dirt/hard water build up that I removed/cleaned. Put it all back together and PRESTO no more running water. 😀

    Great video.
I'm a general builder who has been trying to get a plumber to service a Villeroy and Boch concealed cistern for 2 months now.
Have spoken to about 20 plumbers.....you mention villeroy and boch and concealed cistern and all have said not a chance.
After watching yours and other videos, I decided to do it myself.
It was so easy that I decided to descale all 3 concealed cisterns in the house....took 30 mins a cistern.
Have now decided that if general plumbers are that scared of these cisterns, when I retire, I'm going to start up my own concealed cistern servicing company 😂😂😂
Only joking....when I retire, I'll be fishing, playing golf and travelling 😀

Nice one Roger! Mine developed a fault yesterday, water kept draining into bowl. Took everything apart quite easily thanks to your excellent video, lots of Water stone and bits of old tile plaster and such. Gave everything a clean and put it back and its working like new. NOTE: there was always a slight trickle from the cistern into bowl (causing horrible skidmark looking stain) now there no a single drop dripping into bowl. Keep up the good work Sir!

Thank you. My cistern was a different brand but the basics were the same. I had spare parts because I had two of the same loo but didn’t end up using one when we reno’d. The flush buttons stuck, the intake going into the float had some kind of partial blockage and the water didn’t seal fully and trickled into the toilet. From a few weeks post install. The plumber left the area. Your video saved me hundreds. Champion. Not to mention I thought it may mean ripping off tiles and wall which would mean thousands. So grateful.

You little legend! We ordered a part for $65 thinking it was the issue with the cistern running into bowl constantly. it didn't fix issue after hubby replaced it. I just goggled it, found your video watched it and just pulled the entire thing apart rinsed it all wiped out the bowl which had lots of debris in it and put it all back together again. My daughter was like way to go mum! Lets see if it remains silent (ie no leak present atm). I may have just sorted it out. Fingers crossed. Thanks heaps for sharing this video. Cheers Kathryn

Your daughter is right. Well done for sorting it out. It is amazing how much rubbish you find inside some cisterns and builders don't understand that all those bits sitting on the seals are causing problems for people.

  • @paul756uk2
    @paul756uk2 5 лет назад +2

I've got a bit of a love hate relationship with these things. With the introduction of low content cisterns they needed something like this which dumps the entire contents very quickly rather than a siphon which drags the water up and over the before the siphon starts going and has a lower flow rate so you need more water to flush the pan. The advantage with those is that they couldn't leak like these new ones do. A friend of ours had a massive water bill because she didn't realise hers was leaking. It's not always easy to see the trickle of water running down the pan. Mine has a Grohe flush valve and I recently changed the head because of this but to be honest it's lasted around 14 years so can't complain. Grohe stuff is pretty good. They are reliable but you have to watch out for that trickle especially if you've got a water meter. Good videos as always.

Someone else commented here about the plastic becoming brittle with age and that’s exactly what had happened in less than 20 years. Not the most environmentally friendly design but I agree that the whole replacement procedure was straightforward thanks to the clarity of your instructions.

A very helpfull video, but one important notice: he is demonstrating it with a rather brand new system. If you are trying this with a system that has been in use for years, chances are really big that limestone has built up in all sorts of crevices, especially where the parts are supposed to fold but can't anymore because of the limestone, so they WILL crack. So you will end up with replacing the siphon or the floater in whole and those are not cheap. So if your system has been in use for years, and you want to take it apart to clean it as it is leaking, then the advice I got (when helas buying the replacent parts) is to first drain the water, then fill it up with a mixture of water with citron acid and let it soak for at least 24hrs so the limestone gets dissolved, or at least softened. At that is still not a garantee, as "those parts are made to be broken when seized up with limestone, so you will end up with buying the whole replacement part anyway" .

FYI peeps, this abacus cistern and internals is identical to Rak/Roca/Gerberit concealed low profile cistern (save for slightly different debris plate / rod arrangement).

Thanks, great vid and easy to follow. I have a similar system which works fine. However the flush is very strong which makes some water spit out of the actual bowl when flushing. How do you adjust this?

Fantastic video, helped me no end to remove and clean everything. My cistern still isn't filling up so the flush doesn't work. I think the float valve must be faulty, when I turn the water back on it trickles into the pan. Any suggestions?
