Yes! That was my introduction to Corben. I saw that book when it came out and I was fucking scared of it. It seemed incredible that Marvel was putting it out. So good, it is a fantatic mini.
That death page is a clear homage to Kirby's death of Bucky (when Cap falls from the drone plane) from the Cap books, I seem to remember that Agamemnon looked like Bucky but not sure why..
IMO Back when it came out the Pantheon saga was a fresh reprieve for older readers that had already seen the traditional “broken English” Incredible Hulk for decades. And Frank’s art paired well with the David’s comedic tone. But I can understand how it didn’t attract new readers and they wrapped it up quite unceremoniously. I had a lot of hope for Sharp after his Marvel UK run, but his style never caught me.
Preordered Hulk Grand Design #1 (A&D) I am really excited to get this project in my hands! The Hulk that I loved as a kid and read repeatedly was Incredible Hulk #255 thru #265. Hulk World Tour. 255 has got to be a case study on how to do a cover.
Hope you guys take a look at Liam Sharp’s Green Lantern! I tend to like Gary Frank’s later work at DC, it was odd to look back at his Hulk and agree that it is just doesn’t fit.
I came across CK a little bit ago and have made my way through a decent (I think representative) portion of the backlog. I have not yet heard anything like the criticism of the material covered that this video has in it. And, it was appreciated! Now, I don't care for "Why [X] is the Worst [Y] Ever" style videos, but I can see value in getting your insights into how and why some comics fail. A "what not to do" kind of thing for cartoonists. Maybe it could be a series? Regardless, your gushing, but still nuanced and analytical, enthusiasm for the best comics has to offer gives plenty to learn from. So, thanks for doing all you do!
Interested in your thoughts on the Dale Keown drawn issues which form the first half of the Professor Hulk / Pantheon story (circa issues 380 to 400ish). I know you're fans of Keown on Pitt, and he created most of the Pantheon character designs you cut promos on in this video. Do you buy the Professor Hulk more when Keown draws him?
When I was kid the first Hulk comics I got were Gary Frank pantheon issues, killed my interest in the Hulk at the time, took me a long time to give Hulk another shot.
Whats the solution to stop marvel and dc from treating their talent like shit? I heard you guys mention this more than a few times. Do we only buy creator owned books and not buy any of their titles?
Peter David was always an odd writer for me growing up, like as a teenager I would appreciate how he seemed to care for his characters the way Mark Gruenwald, John Ostrander or Chris Claremont did, but I didn't actually like any of his stories or find his humor authentically funny. I was like "at least it's not a total jobber hack" but this video really sums up how investment into his stories had no great payoff.
Agreed with Jim, the least cool looking hulk with that costume design. Just in general some very lackluster Gary Frank pages, he's much better in other work I've read of his. Liam Sharp pages look cool though. Never been a huge Peter David fan, dude was incredibly prolific in the 90's so I am guessing this was just another script for him despite being an anniversary issue and introducing a new and pretty different artist.
Man oh man! I am hyped up for both grand design and trigger warning, you two don’t disappoint. Hoping to get my hands on that piskor grand design variant, but no matter what, I’m snagging everything I can.
Liam is an artist who has continued to improve and push his work on every project. His current art always feels like it’s his peak.
I got to stand up for the Pantheon/Professor Hulk Run. It was fire!
Hoping The BANNER! Mini series gets looked at. Cool to see Corben draw hulk

I remember at my local comic shop Liam Sharp drew Deaths head on the wall of the toilet
You gotta cover World War Hulk! One of my favorite hulk comics.

Adding 'popcorn fart' to my vocabulary today
I’m a massive hulk head and was stoked when Liam came on board!
Would love to see a Liam Sharp shoot interview
I wouldn’t mind more HULK leading up to Jim’s comic of the year hulk grand design!
Most of your videos are about older comics. But you guy should check out the Immortal hulk run. I think it’s the best hulk comics that I’ve ever read.
Rick Leonardi confirmed me that Peter David does full scripts and puts everything he wants to see in the page there.
That Marcos Martin variant is absolutely incredible. So goddamn cool
18:40 Liam Sharps Hulk looks Amazing!
25:02 OMG! HOW Awesome!

I got my pre orders in for every hulk grand design cover heck yea!!
"Approaching Loch Ness monster", incredible
I still remember picking up 425 off the racks in a Wal Mart.
Comic book diss tracks.😍
In Peter David’s defense he doesn’t make any stupid puns in the Dark Tower comics he wrote 😆
Hoping to see you guys cover the Angel Medina run

This hulk looks like he was part of color me bad lol
I also got nº 425 off the stand !!
The guy whose character design Ed hates reminds me of Cameron Hodge from X-Men, only I would say it’s much more effective for a villain.
18:20 whoa
Hulk Hulk Hulk Hulk Hulk

Gots a good S.Platt feel to his work. Who came first?

Liam is simply the best hulk artist.
p
smart hulk was cool only when Bengus drew it
