My beloved mother is 89 and has Alzheimer's. Every time I play this for her, she says, "why does he keep calling me?"
Other times when he says her name, Georgia, she says "yes yes yes. Here I am".
Today she's whispering, "this is for me, isn't it.... Shhhhh". She's smiling and blushing as we play this 4 more tines. 🤗💖

You are a great daughter! 💞
It is for her just for her you can let her know that that he's singing it directly into her heart and her soul. We're sending love to your mother and you and everyone you know and don't know

My uncle is I'm the hospital dying and this is all I can think about. My dad's name is George and he wanted my mom to name me Georgia. They didn't, but he called me it. Everytime he saw me he sung this song to me and as a kid I thought it was silly and cute, nowadays it touches my heart and brings tears to my eyes. ❤

My dear Shorty is 90+ years now. I played this beautiful song for her about five times in a row and each time she looked around the house in surprise and saying, "yesss? Here I am. Where are you?" She's so Sweet and as sassy as it is for someone to have Alzheimer's I have to say it looks good on my mom. She's the sweetest, most content, and loving person I've ever known in my life. And yes her name is Georgia and she stays on my mind. I love 💕 you Shorty (her nickname since 1937)

Georgia native here, you should see the people in the stadiums when this plays. Old couples and young slow dancing happens pretty often, a lot of people singing along as they sway, and soft smiles everywhere. Ray gave us a gift, and we cherish it.
This song is magical.

people of my generation need more music like this
1950's was a decade preceded by a TIME FAR different than the 1960's to TODAY. Truly, one of the LAST greatest generations, but a TOTALLY different time from today. SO different, even our youth.
A good friend of mine, named Georgia recently lost her battle with cancer. Heard this song today on pandora and didn’t realize how much of a trigger it would be. Love it, but damn you Ray Charles! 😩❤️
I was blest to see him in concert in Central Park, ohhh so many decades ago. He closed the show with this song and got a huge, five minute ovation..I remember Ray wore a bright red jacket - played and sang like an angel. Incredible memory!
Ray is one of the gem when it comes to music. Are you a huge fan of his music ?
Hello Cynthia, I see happiness all around you, can I please share from it?

We saw him in one of his last performances. My husband said, "you don't have to understand English to understand the feeling Ray conveyed in this song. It's universal."
Hello Linda, I see happiness all around you, can I please share from it?
I savor every note of this. His voice quality, very single intonation,, the piano, strings, this arrangement!. brings calm, peace, tears, amazement at his talent. I'm so thankful to be able to hear it every time.

I've listened to Ray Charles all my life. I'm 73. They have all been inspirational and moving in my life. I'm a southerner, so I appreciate his southern music. But as I moved North, I found it comforting. He was a true musical artist.

I love this song. I met him the Christmas before he died. I was 10 years old, but he’s the reason why I love jazz music.

How can anyone dislike this beautiful masterpiece? Rest in paradise Mr. Charles.
Thanks Mr Charles for given to us Georgians a state song we can be proud of. I love going to ball games when they play this and everyone sings it... it really bonds us together over our beautiful state. It’s a song we all know by heart. 🤗
They banned him from Georgia and had to give him back his Glory!! Grady baby

Yes!!! Proud to be from Georgia :)
En realidad la letra se refiere a una mujer llamada georgia
My only experience in Georgia was at signal school in Ft. Gordon. That was 40-something years ago, and those days reappear magically every time I hear Ray's song. There. You just made a northerner cry.
Everytime I hear the vocals in the background singing "Georgia on my mind" I can't help but feel immense emotion that makes me cry
I named my newborn daughter Georgia and listening to this everyday while pregnant. Listening to this together every morning is our happy time ❤️
❤
My daughter is almost 8 months old and when she was just about wanting out, I caught her mother listening to this song and rubbing her tummy and singing along to it. She wanted to name her Georgia, but I vetoed that since we have a 50/50 agreement on raising her, and my 50% included naming her. She had Georgia on her mind, I wanted my darling Clementine. 🤣
Georgia, Georgia
The whole day through (the whole day through)
Just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind (Georgia on my mind)
I'm say Georgia, Georgia
A song of you (a song of you)
Comes as sweet and clear
As moonlight through the pines
Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you
I said Georgia, oh Georgia
No peace I find (peace I find)
Just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind (Georgia on my mind)
Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you
Woah, Georgia, Georgia
No peace, no peace I find
Just an old, sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind (Georgia on my mind)
I said just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind
As a musician and lifelong fan of music it is interesting and useful for me personally to see the lyrics as music is clear to me while the words people use are often used in many different ways. It helps me remember the individual notes. What propose do you find in belittling people you do not even know? Forgive me for offending your exalted sense of importance that I do not share. Find your egregious need of attention and respect somewhere else . What an obnoxious and ignorant, creepy thing to bother saying Brent Weckstien.

His voice is incredible
his piano skills too
heroin is a hell of a drug, making musicians better since i dont even know
Heard a solo of him with some synthesizer that made a vibraphone sound, it was incredible.
Bro. He was blind too. And did Heroin. If you can still make dope music with those two things. Fuck man. You're a bloody legend.

We need Musicians like Mr Charles. I wish we had more of him. His music, his voice, his piano, is timeless, Fighting working loving. This way Mr. Charles wanted it. R.I.P. Sir your music is timeless.
This man is the true embodiment of The American Dream.
While Ray Charles was not a perfect man, the life he had is something that proves that you can make it to the top and be remembered and beloved by all even when you’re gone.
Ray Charles Robinson was a little black boy who grew up on a sharecroppers plantation, born to a single mother, and lost his brother always feeling responsible for his death. Add to that he started losing his sight at an age where most of us should be learning to do basic math; and he very easily could and should have been one of the many dealt a cruel hand who fades away and is forgotten. And yet he overcame.
A blind black kid left the plantation, with little to nothing but the clothes on his back, went to a school for the blind, and got an education and as the years went on he went on to have his highs and lows, but busted threw all the obstacles that came his way, and became one of the most LEGENDARY voices in ALL of music.
And one of the most recognized voices

A unique feeling of absolute despair and euphoria happen to me, simultaneously- when I hear this song. You soul gets pulled and stretched in all kinds of directions! No one delivered it like Ray did…and likely no one ever will again.
Had to play this as we drove into Georgia- saw the state sign: "We're glad Georgia's on your mind", perfect moment!
This song is so beautiful and filled with emotion.
Elizabeth Phillips its filled with emotion for me because my grandpa always sung it to me with my name being jorja (said as georgia) so im in love with this song
He wrote this song because they banned him from there bcuz he refused to play for segregated audiences... Back then JIM CROW was alive and well.

Brazilian here. Youre absolutely right, this song has such an universal theme, os incredible.
Traveling through Georgia today. The state introduced me to this wonderful song, and gosh am I glad to know it! What a legend that Ray Charles is, and how lucky Georgia is to have this beautiful song as their own!
Funny about history - In 1961 Charles refused to perform at a concert that was segregated and was fined by an Atlanta court. Then on March 7, 1979 - The state of Georgia honored and issued a formal apology to Ray Charles and made it the state song that day.

Why does it have to be about color? It's just his opinion. This kind of talk is what perpetuates race issues.

If this isn't the official Georgia state song someone needs to intoduce a state bill to correct this injustice.
It's been our official song for decades. Best one out there in my opinion
This is the official Georgia State Song. It was done about 20 years ago, Ray Charles performed it in front of a joint session of the state legislature, including the the Supreme Court, and they were rocking and swaying to the music. It was a joyful and tearful sight.
And what a lovely Albom it is.

This song is based on his Brother death
Hello, thanks for the words to the song. Compared to Arizona, Georgia is nothing splendid. It is just an old sweet song. Ray Charles said what Georgia has can be found in other places. Was he really from Georgia?
I'm in school chorus, and this is the song were doing.
I'm a born and raised Georgia boy. Georgia has a beauty all it's own. I guess that red Georgia clay gets in your blood. I couldn't think of living anywhere else. We have an unspoiled coast line, the foothills of the Appalachians, and flat farm land in the southern part of the state. And gentle rolling hills that separate it all. Really, to those who have never been here, I understand that you don't understand. This song is our State Song, and conveys the feelings of native born Georgians about being away, and longing to get home. Rest easy Ray! We'll see you in a little while!
,@@urijahyisrael188 I'd heard the same, but that it was by that musician, writer name of Hoagy Carmichael, & Stuart Gorrell and that it was about his sister Georgia. Turns out, according to Wikipedia that: "It has been asserted that Hoagy Carmichael wrote the song about his sister, Georgia.[3] But Carmichael wrote in his second autobiography Sometimes I Wonder that saxophonist Frankie Trumbauer told him he should write a song about the state of Georgia. He jokingly volunteered the first two words, "Georgia, Georgia..." Just thought it was interesting.
The craziest thing about it ... he wasn't always blind .. this song was his memories from when he could see... beautiful... we named our daughter georgia then I found this song ... I work away alot so it hits home for me ... how beautiful it all can be ..
This was my fathers facorite song because it reminded him of his mother which he could not visit when she died he was studying in slovenia (yugoslavia at that time) but before he got the news he felt a spirit wake him up and he always said that that was his mothers spirit saying goodbye. Now i know he can rest in peace with his mother. He passed away a day ago and i have been in pain every second since i got the news as i feel like i could’ve helped him by visiting him more often but i also feel happy because of the fact that his suffering ended (he was in a coma for a week) and that he can be at peace. He was the most positive person ever he always said nothing but positive things his smile always lit the room with joy and good feelings. I will never forget him and i shall always cherish the moments we spent together❤❤
Also he always had so many plans that i wish we could’ve done together but i will try to continue his plans and countinue his legacy his life meant so much to me he achieved so many things in just one lifetime and i always inspired to be like him. He was always so humble and never boasted as he was the youngest one in the family. I feel bad for my younger brother (age 8) and mu younger sister (age 11) as they have to go through all of that sadness and grief at just those young ages. It is sad but sometimes you cant do stuff about things and i believe God chose this time as he saw all of the things my father has achieved and decided that my father deserved rest which he can enjoy with his mother in heaven ❤️🇪🇹❤️

I call the 50s, 60s and 70s the three decades of music. It didn't get much better than that - and I lived it all! I've been practicing this song with my alto sax and recording over a backing track. I needed to hear Ray sing it again.
Don't forget the '80s. We had great soul and R&B in the 1980s too. :) Rock Steady by the Whispers comes to mind.

@@christiansean2222 during the Soviet Union days they used to have pirated versions of American music vinyls because western culture was under censorship. Music and culture is a beautiful thing.
Thank you Georgia! You're on my mind! THANK YOU! PARTY TONIGHT!!
If you live in Georgia you know this song has so much meaning to you. It’s such an amazing tune. Whoever is listening to this I hope you keep Georgia on your mind.🍑
American or post-soviet country?

Cette chanson est toujours aussi magnifique et magique ! La voix de Ray toujours aussi envoûtante 🥰🥰
First listened to this when it first came out. Ray recorded many versions of this and he never sang them the same way . His magic on this studio version shines as bright as ever. I can truly say without a doubt Ray Charles made my life a better place to live. Thanks Ray you remain my hero.
Ray was blind, yet he could see how beautiful his home state was.
After he so graciously forgave them
So much soul and life in the song. I'm Puertorican but this song makes feel so Georgian. Beautiful Georgia!!!
The definitive version of a great song. No one
tops Ray's version.
One of the most deeply felt and moving songs, with a voice like no one else. A masterpiece!
