I get what you are saying, but I think it is just asking for trouble. I have been sitting in traffic for 38 years and they are already reporting more accidents this year involving motorcycles than any other year since they legalized lane filtering here. Fist off the roads really are not wide enough here they weren't built with doing that in mind.
yes I do I have been riding for a long time the law here says you can lane filter if traffic is stopped and you must filter at a max speed of 15 MPH or less, but what that has done now is people are taking advantage of that law and are lane splitting at high speed now because they think that the cops can't catch them and they never did that before. You give these A-holes and inch and they will take a mile. If all people were doing was lane filtering, that would be fine, I personally don't feel the need to do that, so it's a choice if someone want's to that is fine, but as soon as the law went into affect, people started lane splitting on the interstate and all sorts of crap. Now this video was about filtering not splitting. I personally don't see any sense in lane filtering either. But that is because in all the years I have been riding I have never lived in one of the 5 states that allow it.
@mymotorcyclelifestyle as others have said, it's for safety, then only 5 states understand motorcycle safety. If a car doesn't stop in time or misjudges a distance and hits you from behind it's a fender bender, if you're on a motorcycle and a car does the same it's a funeral ⚱️. Whether you choose to do it or not is definitely your liberty, but don't for a second justify in the comments as to persuade others to do the same. As the top comment said, you CHOOSE to not wear safety gear, fine, but you're an IDIOT not an expert riding with no gear and no helmet most of your riding experience... you're the same as those high speed lane splitters.
Thanks for all the insults and making a decent conversation into a drama. Look I'm not trying to convince others not to lane filter, I am simply saying I am not going to do it. As far as someone not stopping in time, that is why we have mirrors, we don't just stop and start staring at our phone or something. I pay attention to everything including my mirrors, if people are coming up behind me I can tell if they are slowing down or not, there has been a couple times in my life where I have had to accelerate and hit the shoulder or go between vehicles so as not to get squished, but that was because I paid attention to everything around me. I have never lane filtered because I have never lived in a state where it was legal, and just because they made it legal here don't mean I have to do it suddenly. I am fine riding the way I ride, and if you want to call me names and think you are better than me that is your choice and you have a right to your opinion.
Filtering is whole point of having a motorcycle. Here in Europe it's completely normal and expected by cagers, they move over even if you don't want to pass 😆
In Australia you can only filter if 1. You have a full motorcycle licence 2. Traffic is either stationary or travelling no faster that 30 klm/hr 3. Not allowed between buses and trucks
Lane filtering is only allowed in Five states here in the US not the entire country. Most people that lane filter here Live in California, and they don't know or understand that only 5 states allow it. Our state just started allowing it this year and I have to say I don't like it. Don't need to do it and won't do it.
At 67 years of age, living in Southern California all my life, I’ve had more motorcycles than I can count, and still ride to this very day. Sitting in my garage is my 2018 ultra classic And my 2023 KTM 890 adventure. I started riding when I was 18 years old, have clocked more than 1,000,000 miles on motorcycles. Three years ago I finally got hit by a car in Southern California. Broke bone side of my body. I had no visible contusions or any tore up skin my body armor Jacket worked flawlessly., My gloves saved my hands, and my full face $800 Shoei saved my life!! My GoPro camera recorded the accident, and won me a six figure award from the Car driver that hit me. From the sound of your video content it sounds like you have all this world class riding experience. Good for you, hopefully you’ll never get hit by a car riding around in your T-shirt, with no gloves and your three-quarter helmet but hell, even if you get your full face helmet continue to ride around without all the other protections, at least you can say you saved your head. Anyways, enjoy the ride. Be safe out there hopefully you never get hit by a car. PS I will keep splitting lanes in Southern California versus sitting in suck ass traffic roasting in the sun, waiting to get rear ended.
Right on I am glad that you were alright after getting hit by a car and ended up with a six figure settlement from that. Hope you didn't spend it all in the same place...lol
Bought the KTM after the accident.. Bought a 360 Camera…. Insurance bought me all new motorcycle riding gear….. Invested the money 😎😎::: BE safe out there and enjoy the ride👍👍
right on. Sounds like the camera did the trick for you. I normally have a camera with me at all time just not recording at all times, but I may have to change my way of thinking on that. These cameras can be put in Dash cam mode and they will simply record all day if I want them to, if was to do something like that even thought these batteries last a long time I would most likely down grade the video to 1080 or 720 just to get more time out of the battery as well.
You are 100% right about the battery issue… I’ve thought about mounting a automotive dash cam hard wired in🤔….. It’s all about evidence should you ever need it…. Had my camera mounted to my bike when I got hit by the car. The camera actually got ripped off its mount but survived the crash.👍👍😎… AAA Insureance of Southern California really took care of me…
The drift ghost xl can be plugged in and run all day long if you want it to if you are going to mount it on the bike, that way you can unplug and take it in with you when you go in somewhere and someone won't steel it. you can get two of them one facing forward and one backward and put one as the master camera and the other as the slave and what ever settings you put on the master camera the other one will automatically accept also, then when you start recording on the master camera the slave will also start recording at the same time, so the videos will be synchronized.

First time I've ever heard a biker say they don't like splitting/filtering. Wow. The only thing I like about CA is the splitting. Wish we had it here in Florida because the traffic is way, way bad now.
it's funny that most of the comments on here are from people in California and they all think lane splitting or filtering is great, there are only five states that allow it and Utah is the fifth state so far, so that means that the majority of riders int he country have never done it because it's only allowed in 5 states
I have been sitting in traffic for 38 years on a bike, and yes there have been a few times I had to get the hell out of the way, but that is why you pay attention to everything and give your self an out. I never just sit there staring at my phone or jamming out to music. I am always looking at everything around me including in mirrors, and there have been a couple times where I had to hit the side of the road or jump in-between vehicles, to get out of the way of a vehicle that wasn't stopping, but again that is why I pay attention to everything.
@@mymotorcyclelifestyle I'm wondering how many times you've had a bike slide out from under you as you spent the majority of the video riding exactly where every rider should know not to ride, in the centre of the lane. When cars leak oil it's always down the centre of the lane. You should always be riding on the inside or outside of the lane.
38 years and I have never had a bike slide out from under me. I ride where I am comfortable, most of the time I will stay in the tire tracks but sometimes I want to be right in the middle. it just depends on the day.. and NO I have never had a bike slip out and I have never gone down on a corner and I have never been crushed between vehicles...lol
@mymotorcyclelifestyle Ok lets take a ride on the logic train together. Are there constant accidents on hwy.....yes. Do vehicles get hit from behind when stopped ar traffic.....yes. If there is enough force to crumple a car will it rearrange your organs.....yes. Do drivers get distracted and re-end people all the time....yes. Are motorcycles less likely to be seen.....yes. I'm in my late 40s been riding for 30yrs or so mix of dirt, trials, flat track, trails, street, track days. I can't count how many times crashed in dirt, at least 5 good wrecks on track, 6 accidents on street with 2 lifeflight rides. Only one accident on street was on me playing around in mountains all others were other drivers. Two types of riders those who have been down hard and those who will. It is a numbers game the harder you rider and longer you ride your chances go up. Sure the guy riding to coffee shop on Saturday morning may go 40yrs with no accidents while the guy putting down 500+mi during weekend tearing cayon up will be more likely to go down. That all being said sitting in traffic waiting to get hit is just pure stupidity. The only advantage motorcycles have is mobility. By sitting in traffic you are putting your life in someone else's hands.
Let me just say this since you decided to go off on a rant about the entire thing, There are only 5 states in the US that allow lane filtering, so for 38 years of riding I have been sitting in traffic, and yes I have had more than a few times had to throttle out and get the hell out of the way, but that is because I pay attention to everything around me at all times. 5 States is all that allows some sort of lane filtering or lane splitting, People on here are just acting Like it's a normal thing that every rider in the country does it. NO only five states out of 50 and only the fifth one this year Utah. that leaves tens of thousands of riders in the other 45 states that have to sit in traffic. I have never lane filtered because it has never been allowed, 38 years riding on the street, plus dirt, and I am not comfortable with lane splitting, however I am fine sitting in traffic and paying attention in case I need to get out of the way, and I always leave myself enough room to get out of the way whether that be hitting the shoulder or going to between vehicles. But only if I need to do that. So you can lane filter or lane split all you want that is fine, I will sit in traffic and be just fine as well. I have never lived any where that allowed lane filtering, so it's not something I am used to doing and not something that I am comfortable doing, Therefore I am not doing it.
I use a Ghost XL and I would say the footage quality if pretty good and battery life is amazing. The XL Pro must be top of class. Lane filtering is necessary though, I do it every day....so far, I got hit by another motorbike...😀
the XL pro has great stabilization, other than that it's pretty much the same camera. Only difference other than that is you can record in 2160 with stabilization on, but not 4K.
yea their allowed to have their opinion, they just don't realize that only 5 states allow filtering they think its allowed every where and that everyone should be doing it. But when you do the research those five states, including Utah now are reporting way more accidents involving motorcycles now than all the other 45 states that don't allow it...lol
The word you were trying to say when referring to the fat just under the skin is called subcutaneous fat which is what I need to lose along with the visceral fat that most people who diet need to lose. I'm glad you are seeing results from your diet and have regained the strength in your muscles. I need to get my butt in gear and lose 35 pounds. I lost 30 pounds from getting COVID twice last year and having low Vitamin D, but I recently regained 10 pounds of it back and it's been causing me to have some stomach issues from poor eating. I work 10 hours a day starting early in the morning 4 days a week and when I get home, I eat and then go to bed which I need to stop doing. I need your mindset and basically stick to a low calorie restricted diet which I know I can do with a lot of will power. I think 1500 calories will be manageable for me because 1000 would put my stomach in shock and I don't need my stomach trying to eat away at my ass just to keep from starving lol. Bikers lane filter and lane split all the time here in Clarksville TN and a lot of them end up killed because other drivers don't pay attention to them and like to speed and change lanes without looking.
we have never had that here till recently and already they are reporting way more accidents involving Motorcycles than ever before, I guess it's good for the insurance companies though because they can just keep raising the rates on people like me that ride responsible and have never had a ticket or anything in 38 years. I did have a little fender bender when a vehicle pulled out in front of me this year but it didn't hurt me or the bike really and the guy got the ticket for it so that was the first time in 38 years.
Whether it should be legal or it should not be legal is irrelevant for this question. Does a motorcycle rider face increased risk while in the process of filtering that is the question?
I never like fighting in the comments, here in Utah they never had lane filtering till this year and already they are reporting a lot more motorcycle accidents than ever before, I would rather just not be a part of that. Also there are only five States that allow it, and I am willing to bet that those other four states just like Utah are reporting more accidents than they did before it became legal there. Even if all you do is his a cars mirror it's still an accident and that goes on your record and insurance goes up. and now they are going to raise the rates for everyone because of that. So it's a win for the insurance companies for sure.
@mymotorcyclelifestyle you didn't say anything wrong you're 100% correct. I will reiterate this filter means you move from one lane to the next that means you get your ass in the next Lane as soon as possible because your lane is ending that doesn't mean you run to the goddamn front of Lindsay oh hi this land is filtering f*** you
Ok well this is the law here in Utah you can read it word for word and see what they consider to be lane filtering. What you describe is just switching lanes from one to the next, anyone can do that any time. here is the law In Utah, read this and then figure out what you are so upset about calling me names and tell me Fuck You.... Utah recently passed a bill that allows riders to lane filter in very strictly described conditions. The State of Utah now allows "lane filtering if a motorcycle is overtaking a vehicle that is stopped in the same lane of travel and there are two or more adjacent traffic lanes in the same direction of travel.” For the State of Oregon's recently submitted bill, lane filtering is allowed when "Traffic is stopped or has slowed to a speed of 10 miles per hour or less." Unlike lane splitting that allows a motorcycle to navigate between rows of vehicles circulating at regular speeds, lane filtering allows the motorcyclist to trickle down between rows of stopped/slow-moving vehicles. This maneuver is usually observed at stop lights and allows riders to navigate towards the front of the line, which in turn allows them to take off swiftly and safely without being sandwiched between two vehicles. Lane filtering is usually forbidden between an ongoing traffic lane and a row of parked cars or a curb. Each State has its requirements and its definition of lane filtering (for instance, Utah clearly states the vehicles have to be stopped while a wider definition of the concept also suggest slow-moving vehicles.) The difference between splitting and filtering all comes down to the speed of the surrounding vehicles and the context in which they are best practiced (rush hour traffic versus intersections). In both cases, it is up to the rider to analyze the situation and engage safely. A rider needs to make sure they have enough space between the vehicles to travel without ripping off mirrors along the way, and it is their responsibility to travel at a speed that affords them enough time to react should a car suddenly change lane in front of them. A rider is not obligated to lane split or filter if he doesn't feel at ease doing so. Lane splitting and filtering are privileges, not God-given rights, so use these advantages wisely and above all, be safe doing so! Happy riding. Now you have been educated on the law here in Utah and know what lane filtering is here. it's not just switching from one lane to the other or filtering into traffic when a lane is ending.
Having a motorcycle and sitting in traffic, is just crazy to me. Filtering done properly, is a life changer. I'm glad is legal in California.

Not legal in Texas.
Only legal in 5 states...
Got some smart ass know it all's in the comments. Lol
yea their allowed to have their opinion, they just don't realize that only 5 states allow filtering they think its allowed every where and that everyone should be doing it. But when you do the research those five states, including Utah now are reporting way more accidents involving motorcycles now than all the other 45 states that don't allow it...lol
Was there a Wendy’s on the right?
there probably was...lol
Waiting in traffic= KING HIT
Filtering= push over
Try off the bike to see what hurts more👍
we have never had that here till recently and already they are reporting way more accidents involving Motorcycles than ever before, I guess it's good for the insurance companies though because they can just keep raising the rates on people like me that ride responsible and have never had a ticket or anything in 38 years. I did have a little fender bender when a vehicle pulled out in front of me this year but it didn't hurt me or the bike really and the guy got the ticket for it so that was the first time in 38 years.
Whether it should be legal or it should not be legal is irrelevant for this question. Does a motorcycle rider face increased risk while in the process of filtering that is the question?
it's a risk either way, but I would rather just sit, because I don't need someone switching lanes or opening their door on me just to be dicks.
@mymotorcyclelifestyle Insight that's all I was looking for not a fight appreciate your feedback
The State of Utah now allows "lane filtering if a motorcycle is overtaking a vehicle that is stopped in the same lane of travel and there are two or more adjacent traffic lanes in the same direction of travel.” For the State of Oregon's recently submitted bill, lane filtering is allowed when "Traffic is stopped or has slowed to a speed of 10 miles per hour or less."
Unlike lane splitting that allows a motorcycle to navigate between rows of vehicles circulating at regular speeds, lane filtering allows the motorcyclist to trickle down between rows of stopped/slow-moving vehicles.
Each State has its requirements and its definition of lane filtering (for instance, Utah clearly states the vehicles have to be stopped while a wider definition of the concept also suggest slow-moving vehicles.)
The difference between splitting and filtering all comes down to the speed of the surrounding vehicles and the context in which they are best practiced (rush hour traffic versus intersections).
