  • In India, hundreds of women in their 60s and 70s are defying age and having children.
    Elderly couples are turning to in vitro fertilisation (IVF) to have babies and avoid the stigma associated with being childless in India.
    India is now home to the oldest mothers in the world, and a fierce debate is raging over age limits for IVF.
    101 East explores the ethics of this growing phenomenon of elderly new mothers and asks, how old is too old to give birth? Are doctors exploiting vulnerable women and misusing science, or fulfilling the right of every woman to bear a child?

    Mhm. What I find a bit "odd", the first woman said she didn't want to adopt because it wouldn't be her child. But wasn't her child conceived, yes in her body, but with someone else's eggs and a sperm donor?

      Not only that, she found the task at her age overbearing.
      What will become of the orphaned child in a few short years?
      Sadly people are acting on their emotions instead of their witt.

    • @sabrinadunson6903
      @sabrinadunson6903 4 года назад +2

      Yes but she carried it nourished it grew it inside her and gave birth to it
      so what does it matter where the eggs came from?
      And it was her husbands sperm that fertilized the egg
      She gave birth to her husbands child
      So your way of thinking
      Is because the egg or sperm were donated
      Means the baby is not
      Theirs?
      What about adoption ?those kids don't belong to the people who love and care for and have
      Raised them either?
      Wow I certainly hope you don't have any problems having children if and when you want any
      The poor thing would

      Al-Ikram Chowdory No. If it's not her egg being used, then the baby isn't genetically related to her at all. We only receive our DNA from the egg and the sperm cell, no other source. Carrying the baby and giving birth do nothing to impact genetics. You should have learned that by 6th grade.

Let your life be a testimony. Not random comments on RUclips. Reach out to your actual neighbour. Befriend them. Don't preach at them. Just let them into your life. God is the one who does the miracle. Not us.

    That she bleed nearly to death isn't related to age of COURSE it can be - immediately after birth, the uterus has to contract so the woman won't haemorraghe - it's pretty obvious that a 65 year old uterus won't be as strong a muscle as the uterus of a 30year old.

    Young people who are not financially or mentally ready to have children do so all the time. Those children suffer so much during their childhood. These people are mature full of love and financially capable of bringing a beautiful soul into this world. These children are not going to suffer like those children who are born of the youngest womb. I say, if God allows them to bear a baby at that age. I will wish them nothing but peace and love to them and their family.

    I can totally see an Indian woman doing this, not any other race. Indian women the vegetarian ones are in such extremely good shape, not cosmetically but physically, they may have wrinkles and gray hair etc, but their stamina is unreal. Same with the men. I live in an area in Canada where its heavily populated by Indians, and the grandparents (grandmom too) in each household are the ones who do the pressure washing, snow plowing, gardening, rearing the children, etc. while the mother and father work and go shopping etc.

    • @soulsunshine108

      It's true many old indian people look very aged from working in the sun. Physically, they appear older than their age, but internally they are really fit. Able to remain active and never letting up on household work. It really is the condition of the skin, especially of rural villagers, that makes these mothers look a little shocking. My own grandmother looked in her 40s or younger until she was in her mid 70s. If for some reason she conceived through in vitro, she would look the part of a slightly older mother no problem. These ladies look very old but I can imagine they are robust.

The rules of nature, or of God if that is your belief, are that a woman can't conceive a child once she's reached menopause. What they're doing has nothing to do with anything spiritual, though I doubt the doctors ever tell them the facts.

      @TheYasmineFlower 6 лет назад +2

      Not really. For an older child, maybe, but most people don't want to deal with older children and the problems that they bring due to their troubled histories. Any younger child would be at the same risk that the donor-conceived children are: To be orphaned soon and be all alone if the parents don't have any relatives left to take them in. And for adopted children in particular, that would mean just another loss.
      At some point, people should just suck it up and die with some semblance of dignity.

      DoubleDogDare54 girls get periods at the age of 12, that means they should get pregnant?

    • @DoubleDogDare54
      @DoubleDogDare54 7 лет назад +4

      Bishal Das
      There is a difference between the word "should" and "can" - one means "must" the other means "possible".
      A 12 year old girl *can* get pregnant - it is *possible* for her to get pregnant at 12, but it is not the best for her if she does.
      On the other side a woman *cannot* get naturally pregnant after menopause - or, for that matter, immediately prior to menopause, while in peri-menopause. It is NOT natural for her to bear children after she stops cycling.
      So, it is no more natural for an elderly woman past menopause to bear children via hormonal treatment and other unnatural interference than it would be for a 10 year old girl to bear a child if forced into menarche via hormonal treatment just to be able to impregnate her.

    • @bishaldas4916
      @bishaldas4916 7 лет назад +2

      DoubleDogDare54 I know the difference between 'can' and 'should'. I may not speak english fluently but I understand.
      second point even I think this is not a good idea, at this age they cannot take care for themselves. How can they raise a child
      third point when a girl gets her menstruation , when her body signals her that she can get pregnant doesnt mean she should get pregnant. In the same way when a women's body signals her that she cannot get pregnant , menopause doesnt mean she should destroy her dream of having a child. if science is helping, why not?

    • @bishaldas4916
      @bishaldas4916 7 лет назад +4

      DoubleDogDare54 there is nothing wrong if a women after menopause wants to have her own child.
      but I agree not at the age of 80 or 70

    • @DoubleDogDare54
      @DoubleDogDare54 7 лет назад +10

      >>> there is nothing wrong if a women after menopause wants to have her own child.>>>
      The thing you have to keep in mind is that with virtually all these post-menopausal pregnancies, they are accomplished with donor eggs harvested from younger women. So the kids that result are *not* the biological children of the woman. And if the husband is not fertile either (sometimes the case) then donor sperm is used as well.
      The result is a child that is not biologically related to the woman and/or the man who are then called the "parents" (?) of the resulting kid. So although the woman may physically give birth to such a child, it is no more related to her - "her own child" (?) - than a kid she would adopt or foster.
      So the whole thing about "have her own child" is nothing but an expensive farce as these kids are not "hers" genetically at all.
      These women are of an age if they want to mother something it should be grandchildren. If they don't have grandchildren, I am sure India is overrun with babies and little kids who need nurturing adults to care for them and provide them with a home. Take in those kids instead of what they are doing with these dangerous pregnancies in old age, which is unnatural and uncalled for.

    It´s not right I think 47 should be border fo IVF. I am 43 and I enjoy being young grandma. I can read stories and do grandma things, just like computer and other modern thing with my young grandsons. I could still have a child of my own, bu honestly I feel old for having a baby of my own. Perhaps it is that I live in the industrial middle Europe, but I got myself a mini doggie and a cat and yeah a camera. I live full and nice life.

    "We don't see as much risk with the older ones" Honestly, take just one look at that baby boy- in what world can you say he's healthy?!? I mean he's beautiful, but there's just no way that was a full-term baby. And the girl's dad was saying she was 1 kilogram at birth- 2.2 lbs. And sure you can say, "Well at least they got a baby, it's okay if they're disproportionately likely to be premature" but prematurity is NOT something to play around with. It can lead to brain damage and all kinds of stuff, many of which involve pain or diminished quality of life, multiple surgeries, that kind of thing. A baby that is 2.2 lbs at birth is NOT a good outcome- you're putting a baby in harm's way. Having a baby and then by bad luck having it turn out to be born prematurely is one thing, but knowing the risks to the child before there is even a child to speak of, saying, "Yes, I will bear a child knowing that child will have a 99% chance of being premature" is quite another. Unethical because of the medical risks to the mother, but also unethical because of the medical risks to the child.

    it DOES matter where the eggs and sperm come
    from... i’m adopted and it was a closed adoption so i know very little of my biological parents. i’m dealing with mental health issues and have been since i was around 7. i would like to know if it runs in my biological family. i want to know what i might be dealing with when i choose to have children with my future wife. i would also like to know what physical health problems run through my family as well. it’s important to know these things to avoid bigger problems down the road. i understand feeling that your child is yours, no matter where they came from but if something happens with them, it wouldn’t hurt to know why it might be happening and if it has to do with the health and family history of the donors or biological parents. idk, that’s just my opinion though 🤷🏾‍♀️

    That doctor dismissing these serious, dangerous problems in these elderly women is crazy! It's insane how these people allow their neighbor's comments to affect them so badly, that they are willing to carry babies at 70 years old. No one is thinking about the child who will have no parents at a young age. They're only thinking of themselves and idiotic comments from their neighbors. This was uploaded 6 years ago; I wonder if these kids still have parents. This is so selfish and ignorant.

    I honestly do not think that the women are infertile. If the man took her sister as a second wife and they STILL had no children, speaks to the fact that HE may have a sperm issue. The man can take another wife but the women are stuck with an infertile man. If they are not getting pregnant, they both need to get tested and I am sure many of these women will not waste their fertile years and get treatment at a safer age with better results.

    Does anyone know if there is a specific reason why all the girl children have short hair?

    • @lina8316
      @lina8316 7 лет назад +1

      A Hindu boy has his first haircut in his first or third year of his life, while girls get their hair cut when she is 11 month old. Traditionally, this is the only haircut a girl gets. After that her hair is supposed to be not cut again. And generally only boys get their hair shaved off completely but nowadays some familys also do this ceremony for their girls instead of only cutting the hair.
      Shaving the hair off means to get rid of your undesirable traits from your past lives and to signify your freedom from the past and being ready to move on into the future.

      lina8316 wow interesting to know of similar customs. It is tradition to cut and preserve our hair at year 1; both girl and boy. It is representative of extra sensory perception which we gain after that age, an introduction into spirituality and flow of life. Cuts are forbidden after that unless in sickness or death.

    She never wanted to have another persons child, so she had another persons egg fertilized with not her husbands spermicide, and had it put in her body but then delivered it through C section. Makes sense.
    So like... whether they wanna admit it or not, they’re going to be dead before this kid even hits high school. The doctors who agreed to this should have their licenses revoked because this is setting this kid up for a lot of grief and sorry at a very very young age. Did they ever stop to think that maybe there is a reason why our bodies stop being able to make children after a certain age?

  • @angelag7992
    @angelag7992 6 лет назад

    All these comments talking about them being too old to have kids, but there are so many grandparents raising babies because the parents won't. What's the difference? I almost died with my last child, I was 33. Death stalks every one at every age, it doesn't discriminate. So even if they were in their 40's and died who would take care of the baby?? Only one couple in this documentary had family that could help the little girl; the other two had no one so their age really doesn't matter does it?

    I know married couples in every woman wanted to have babies / children. But when you getting older up then 70 years and you have a baby , who's going to look after you? And who's going to look after the baby? I think it will be very sad when the baby grown up later. Very sad because they can't look after her, as their mother. When the time for the story about their childhood it will be very painful for them, for their lives. Sorry to say that.

    This is awful I feel sorry for the ladies who donate eggs and die leaving their own babies orphans or motherless. If there wasn’t this demand those women could still be alive, the doctors don’t seem to care about these women after the donation of the eggs. PROBLEM: Poverty, Greedy doctors, Selfish OAPs and lack of education. So sad 😭God Bless All Who Are Suffering From These Issues (Orphan babies, poorer people getting poorer and otherwise healthy women dying from giving eggs for money) 😭
    Also “ what do people know where the egg comes from?” Says elderly mum ..... Well the family who are missing a mother, wife, daughter, etc because the demand for eggs and babies caused them to make an uninformed decision resulting in their deaths. R.I.P.
