- Ice Cream trucks are on almost every street corner in New York City, thousands of New Yorkers and tourists eat off of them all summer long. But do you know if those trucks are even serving clean ice cream?
We tested and what we found might make you lose your appetite!

This is awful. I worked at a place that had soft serve, and we all went to great lengths to clean it every night. When you feed people you have a great responsibility to them. This makes me so mad.

When I was a kid in the early sixties, we had 5 Mr Softee trucks. All the icecream was emptied out and the machines dis-assembled. They got cleaned with bleach every night as soon as the drivers got back to the warehouse. You didn't put them back together until the next day when everything was dry. Our father never got home before midnight and usually later.

Fernandez218 supposedly theres a certain amount of bleach that is safe for consumption. I read it somewhere. Also i just started at this culinary school and we wash the dishes then we rinse the dishes, then we put the dishes in a sanatizing sink which contains bleach then we put it on the drying rack. So i think his fathers practice was pretty safe

People have to understand the carts and trucks all over New York may be less expensive than brick and mortar stores (in some cases they have the same prices as brick and mortar stores), but they're SO DIRTY compared to stores. They don't get inspected as restaurants do, and they're mobile so they can just disappear to any corner of the city they want.
People won't catch me dead buying something from these food trucks and corner carts...
I personally never bought ice cream from these trucks even rarely eat from outside also i can't trust this report.some food shops clean their kitchen a day before inspections but otherwise its so dirty and gross.

I have been fixing restaurant equipment for nearly 20 years. I have been in Mom and pops, 5 Star, hotels, Chinese, buffets, and every fast food chain. And I never see anyone wearing gloves, just very rarely maybe 1% of my visits. And believe it or not most of the time the health department gives the restaurant a heads up before they come.
