It’s amazing to me that all the NFL films and other tribute videos highlight how terrific a pass rusher LT was and how offense was played differently after him, but no mention is ever made, nor any highlights shown of how incredible a defender he was playing the run and stuffing runners at the goal line. To me, some of the stops he makes in the video are even better than his sacks. Other pass rushers get taken off the field when the other team decides to stick to the run. LT remained out there as the best against the run too. It was pick your poison. He also turned teams over more against the run. It’s amazing. He is literally thought of as one of the top 5 players ever and only one part of his game is being taken into consideration. Let’s see an NFL films video of him that includes the highlights here and more against the run and let’s see if people will finally think of him ahead of Jerry Rice, Jim Brown, and whichever QB you want to throw in the mix. Have you ever heard trusted pundits call an OLB the “best player in the entire league” before? Madden says it in this video. The BEST player in the entire LEAGUE! Not best defender; PLAYER. Meaning this man impacted the game more than any QB in the game, and those guy have the ball in their hands every play!!!! I guess he wasn’t playing in a great QB league back then. You know, those guys (Montana, Elway, Marino, Aikman) weren’t all that.

He was not human and he dominated in Pass Rushing by far most feared legal modern tackler.ever. He dominated on runs away from him by flying down the line from the backside and consistently making tackles for losses. He dominated if you ran straight at him.which is why he has so many plays scraping down the line on plays designed to go away from his side. Best QB best Running back wide receiver ever ......That's Open to debate. Best Linebacker LT by a country mile and that's from a Cowboys fan
BINGO! Watching these goal line stands made me think of Ray Lewis. Ray couldn't line up in a 2-point stance as a DE in a 3-man defensive front and take on two blockers on the way the QB in the offensive backfield like Taylor could. Derrick Thomas couldn't defend the run the way Taylor could.
Also look how many interceptions he had for a linebacker and how many touchdowns Reggie white nor Bruce Smith can do the other things LT did they have more sacks but they can't play goal line defense defend the pass make Interceptions nor score touchdowns he was much better than both of them plus won more superbowls than both of them
So glad to have been in my prime as a fan when LT and the rest of that AMAZING set of LBs was in theirs. Not just Taylor, Carson, Banks and Pepper Johnson, but even the 2nd tier guys from those years were great. Byron Hunt, Andy Headen, Johnny Cooks, Steve DeOssie and of course Gary Reasons. Had Reasons played on any other team he would have been a defensive superstar. Watch his goal line hit on Bobby Humphreys from the 89-90 season. LT was out with a broken bone I believe and Reasons played the game of his life in his spot. If memory serves me, had the Giants lost to the Broncos that year, they don't make the playoffs and no SB 25 win.

all the aaron donald stuff needs to stop...LT simply did more...this uploaders videos make it clear as day that there more or less was no situation in which LT wasnt a consistent threat...his weakness was pass coverage and he was so "weak" in that category that he had a pick6 on Joe Montana in the playoffs...this run stuffing at goalline is insane, his run stuffing skills against the entire baseline variety of running plays employed during that era by his opponents is the platinum standard-his ability to read get off the block slide inside and help finish at that 2nd level on runs up the middle, his ability to set edges get off blocks and make tackles on runs that go directly at him and his ability when left unblocked to chase the rb down from behind time after time on handoffs/pitches towards the opposite sideline...Hed be a HOF LB just for his ability against the run and in pass coverage, but he was also the greatest pass rusher the position has ever seen...and a nightmare as a gunner on STs...That combo sets him far above the rest including alltime gold standard level players at other positions like A.Donald and Deacon Jones...
Amazing plays! But look at the play of his d line up front. Guys like Erik Howard, Jim Burt, Leonard Marshall, George Martin penetrate and keep those blockers away from him. LT is the best but don't forget to give the boys up front credit!
That worked both ways. The amount of attention LT garnered freed up his teammates to also be effective. Plus he led by example, and not one of his defensive teammates wanted to not pull their weight, so he inspired them to raise their game.
Best player in the league history. It’s comical when the masses say guy like Brady is the greatest player of all time. He just throws the ball and he’s barely athletic. He might be the best QB, but not the best player. That’s absurd.

All they are doing is saying is, 'LOOK! LOOK AT ME! I AM GREAT BECAUSE I MADE A ROUTINE FU**ING PLAY!!'
Lawrence Taylor celebrated his TEAMMATES when they made a big play!! This is why watching highlight clips of the 1980 Giants is so enjoyable. These guys were dialed in trying to do their jobs playing for their teammates, their coaches, and not to the cameras.
“Let’s go out there like a bunch of crazed-dogs and have some fun” Lawrence Taylor. Nuff said.
People today think LT was just a pass rusher. They should watch the tapes he was a beast against the run. Playing inside LB on short yard situations reading the game bring big fullbacks down he was a better inside LB than Ray Lewis .
Also look how many interceptions he had for a linebacker and how many touchdowns Reggie white nor Bruce Smith can do the other things LT did they have more sacks but they can't play goal line defense defend the pass make Interceptions nor score touchdowns he was much better than both of them plus won more superbowls than both of them
This guy was a freaking beast!
All of these tackles are text book. LT isn't trying to knock someone out, but instead trying to wrap up.
Great compilation- we had an awesome defense!
damn..I wish he still played for the Giants .
You cannot deny this dude was the best ever hands down.... The greatest to ever play the game no matter the side of the ball....
Great video. This 4 minutes is about all you need to see to vote someone into the HOF.
Incredible video....great work...thanks for posting....(I very happy to re-subscribe)
I miss John Madden.
antibland.... Me to
yea Pat Summerall was like instant warp back to being a kid I need that som bithc in my life!
Me too😭😭😭😭
Dang that is cold how he just walks back like a pro to get the next call.
Love this kind of Football! !!
I’m so glad I had season tickets at giants stadium in the 80’s
That hit on the Cardinal RB was fierce.
Launching at Herschel Walker at the 1:50 mark of this video is great great play!!! And no showboating after like today's players
@Marvin Santana ....showboating is for unprofessional jackasses who lack couth.
The original Big Blue Wrecking Crew was Carson and Brian Kelley at ILB, LT and Van Pelt at OLB.
Good ol football days. Voice of madden and pat priceless. LT THE GREATEST DAMN DEFENSIVE PLAYER EVER!!!!!! NFL is WHACK now

G Manning.....please..let's mention that Lawrence Taylor was the first, and so far only, player voted DPOY his rookie season.......not to mention his second season in the NFL as well. So.....Lawrence Taylor was the BEST NFL defender his first TWO YEARS in the NFL.
Hell......he was probably the best defensive player in the NFL his final season at North Carolina.
Unprecedented.
LT is the real GOAT of the NFL!
HE IS A BEAST THOUGH
all the aaron donald stuff needs to stop...LT simply did more...this uploaders videos make it clear as day that there more or less was no situation in which LT wasnt a consistent threat...his weakness was pass coverage and he was so "weak" in that category that he had a pick6 on Joe Montana in the playoffs...this run stuffing at goalline is insane, his run stuffing skills against the entire baseline variety of running plays employed during that era by his opponents is the platinum standard-his ability to read get off the block slide inside and help finish at that 2nd level on runs up the middle, his ability to set edges get off blocks and make tackles on runs that go directly at him and his ability when left unblocked to chase the rb down from behind time after time on handoffs/pitches towards the opposite sideline...Hed be a HOF LB just for his ability against the run and in pass coverage, but he was also the greatest pass rusher the position has ever seen...and a nightmare as a gunner on STs...That combo sets him far above the rest including alltime gold standard level players at other positions like A.Donald and Deacon Jones...
he may have been as good a middle linebacker as an outside linebacker
He was fast enough to be a strong safety, too.
The Greatest ever
Owned the league.
If you watch these highlights & you can't see why many regard him as the best ever you need to go back to the start and play it again.
Amazing plays! But look at the play of his d line up front. Guys like Erik Howard, Jim Burt, Leonard Marshall, George Martin penetrate and keep those blockers away from him. LT is the best but don't forget to give the boys up front credit!
John Sepulvedo not always, lt did receive good amout of help.
Its a team sport after all
That worked both ways. The amount of attention LT garnered freed up his teammates to also be effective. Plus he led by example, and not one of his defensive teammates wanted to not pull their weight, so he inspired them to raise their game.
as LT once remarked to his fellow defenders..there would not have been an LT without them
True but there are very few who straight up shutdiwn any runner at the point of impact. Taylor was a fucking beast
True but there are very few who straight up shutdiwn any runner at the point of impact. Taylor was a fucking beast
The one thing people never talk about is his football instinct !!!
His football IQ is severely underrated
Best player in the league history. It’s comical when the masses say guy like Brady is the greatest player of all time. He just throws the ball and he’s barely athletic. He might be the best QB, but not the best player. That’s absurd.
Even Off The Field Hes One Of The Greatest!!!
LT Baddest dude ever
LT was the greatest
Made all the big plays.
Fullback Riggins from the Redskins was about 225 lbs. LT routinely stopped him in his tracks at 245lbs. Enough said!
Saying that Jerry Rice was a better overall player than Taylor, is an insult to what's right. No one was better than LT - the REAL LT.
BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF ALL TIME
This is more impressive than all the videos I've seen where he is sacking the QB. Real 🐐
Due to LT I became a Giants fan😎
Me too. The night he ended Theismann's career. Literally that night.
watch Carl Banks #58 absolutely dominate the line of scrimage at 0:38
If I could start my own football team the first player I would choose is LT and the next would be Jimmy Brown. All the rest would be filler.
He was, indeed, a Giant.
Too bad the greatest NFL Defensive football player only has a few hits on RUclips
He has about 15 10+ minute long highlight videos and in total probably about 2 million views still low but not that low
+atiboyful : I think he is the greatest NFL football player (yes, Defensive or ofensive player)
Does anybody have Lawerence Taylor's last play, when he injured his heel, I believe against the Redskins? I can't find it anywhere.
The 4 dislikes for this video had to of been from players who weren’t able to do their job against LT
LT LT LT !!!
At 1:17 who saw the dude go flying 😂😂😂
Unbelievable
THE BEST!
He was fast even in slow motion
LT dominated the NFL
When LT hit you, YOUR ASS WENT DOWN. No exceptions. Even John Riggins couldn't truck him
John Riggins was a beast but LT was beastier...Case closed!
It’s like watching something out of Madden. The guy was just fucking unreal.
And yet there are still those who misunderstood the claim that the best way to deal with LT is by running at him thinking that he sucked against the run.
John Smith is this sgn?
LT would snatch your heart out of your chest.
LT has got enough goal line plays alone for the hall of fame
I love it when teams get stopped at the goalline
Look at those wrap tackles.
Go ahead, show me a better Defensive player. I double dare you
you win
I can't.
The most impressive player in his position by a way. People who didn’t see him play think he was just a pass rusher. The best I have seen play and that’s from a Cowboys fan
Quoting Ron Jaworski "He would hit you hard. But he never hit you dirty."
Awesome! He was the best! Giants should change uniforms back to this maybe they would get better
This ought to be good. EDIT: YES!
LT's SEALANT INC
Guaranteed to seal any holes airtight. Got a hole?
LT was the man
If I had to pick the greatest D player ever it would be LT.. and that is saying a lot.
1:52 Tay became Superman
LT was rough.
LT its all your fault that i cant and dont enjoy football anymore. you set a standard that these punk MFs cant reach, prima-donna skirt wearing wanna be football players, its a joke, so when i have a itch for watching football i turn on the firestick and watch old reruns of real football
Anything better than the legend John Madden (RIP, Coach) calling LT's plays?
SUPERMAN
LT crazy, LOL
