I keep remembering a story I heard Michael Jordan tell a long time ago about Lawrence Taylor. Both went to North Carolina, and on the weekend there was an outdoor court they used to play basketball on and they were playing. So at some point, LT approached and called next game. Problem was no one wanted to play with Lawrence cause he had earned a rep, he was hyper competitive and played dirty as hell, he'd foul the hell outta anyone, and insist you stayed & played again if he lost, so they told him they were playing just this game then they had to split. So, he says Lawrence stood there staring at everybody intimidating as hell, then he walked over to the goal, & jumped up and pulled the rim & net both down, & said y'all ain't playing no more then you won't be needing the damn goal. So he took it back to his dorm room with him. Mike said we just looked at each other and laughed......

I can confirm this anecdote, as I was there. At the time I was a redshirt senior on the football team, second string placeholder for the kicker. 6'0", 169 lbs and not just an animal in the weight room but a flesh-and-blood inspiration to teammates like LT. Would put up 185 on the bench for 5-6 reps, no problem. Yup. Any event, I had taken an interest in MJ during that time period and was attempting to teach him how to do a fadeaway jumper. He stuck his nose up at me back then but I noticed years later he employed that very move, to the elongation of his HOF career.
But, yes, I can confirm this LT-MJ connection, true story.

To have your mentor talk about your greatness holding your shoulder while you can’t speak because of the grief and regret, was one of the most human moments I’ve seen. Someone who has seen your highs and lows standing up for you during your moment of need is a truly human moment of great significance.
I think looking back at things Lawrence was a very hurt and wounded person. But he could only express these feelings with anger, and facilitated this anger on the football field to a point of MVP status. It’s crazy that such an incredible athlete could be so vulnerable emotionally. Really shows the human aspect of everything, he’s just a wild person who can’t express energy and emotion verbally, so he does it physically to great applause from unaware onlookers, who don’t understand the true nature of this wild, but human athlete.

8:25-8:54 Great wisdom given from one great player to another. And #52 soaked it all in…💯

AAF was definitely real football. Lots of big hitting, very VERY few flags. Maybe the XFL will give us that, too.

Lavar Arrington was one of my favorite linebackers. I wish he stayed healthy.

@daAnder71 Haha hope you're feeling good about yourself. Technically, since QB is short for quarterback (a made up word for a sports position) and not quarter back, even though my original comment was a typo I'm fairly certain it's still not wrong. Thank you for adding so much to this comment thread
