      If is THE Leonard, congrats on being part of 1 of the greatest Defenses ever. As a Packer Fan during that time and a lover of defenses, watching Bears and Giant defenses was absolutely magical and most NFL fans look back at that time in awe of how great they were.

    I'm a lifelong Redskins fan that enjoyed football at its peak, in the 80s and 90s. And this... this was awesome. In our hay day, there's no team we had to respect and fear more than Bill Parcells, LT, and the New York Giants.

      I'm a lifelong Redskins fan. We were the 2nd best team in 86' (crushed the bills in that regular season) and lost to the Giants 3 times that season. I remember Jay Schroeder needing help to walk to the locker room and all that paper swirling in the windy Meadowlands. Redskins fans know more than any other team's fans how great that Giants Defense was.

    Parcell's understanding of the personalities of his players, and his awareness of what makes people tick, is the unmentioned skill here. His intuition regarding motivation and reward for his players is his greatest skill, in my opinion. Outstanding intelligence regarding evaluation, motivation and discipline, in the proper doses. Genius.

    • @michaelbelfer1069
      @michaelbelfer1069 6 лет назад +2

      dnice575 Laundry did not invent the shotgun. He started using it in the early 1970's as his line couldn't protect his QB at the time ( Morton or Staubach, I forget) As far as the 4-3 defense, he sure did invent it. Do you know why? Everyone used to play the Oklahoma 5-2 but the Giants had more good line backers than down lineman and Tom wanted to take advantage of the talents of a young Sam Huff. Tom Laundry knew his stuff for sure. How NY ever let him leave (Vince Lombardi also) ?????

    • @michaelbelfer6513
      @michaelbelfer6513 4 года назад

      Nick Viola I felt the same way about those Eagle teams (1986-'92 or so) except for your scumbag head coach Buddy Ryan. When a coach puts a bounty on a player and encourages your guys to intentionally injure star players, well you become a piece of shit. It's indefensible!!!!!!? BTW, do you watch Golic & Wingo or did you watch Mike & Mike when they were together? Funny how Golic never said a single thing about the Giants even though no team in the NFL gave NY a tougher time then that group of Eagles. Their defense was every bit as good as the Giants and Cunningham gave the Giants fits!!! Why, I'll tell you why. Golic didn't want to have to defend the crap that Ryan was doing, cheap shots, intent to injure etc, etc. Hey, when a class act like Mark Bavaro says he was looking to run your head coach over on the sidelines, well, you know there's something seriously wrong with him. The saying goes, when you have nothing good to say about a man, say nothing so, Buddy fucking Ryan, here's nothing to a nobody

    Bill Parcells choice at the time of this interview to coach one team would be the 49ers. Man I would have taken him in a heartbeat. As a Niner fan growing up in the 80's I hated the Giants, but the hatred was more of a respect that that team would do in match ups against the Niners. So many epic grinders in those games. Gotta love Parcells and LT for all the great memories I had on those Monday Night games in the late 80's against my 49ers!.

    •  6 лет назад +1

      HitsTownUSA,
      I believe Bill Walsh did just fine. Not to mention the other coaches who coached under him, still using the West Coast Offense. Before Jerry Rice even arrived in San Francisco, San Francisco was winning Super Bowls. Then they took off to another level with him. And this is coming from a life long fan of the Dallas Cowboys since 1970. What Bill Walsh did with the 49ers, through the 80s when only one AFC team, and by the same one, won the Super Bowl, (Raiders, 1980, 1983). And the 49ers hasn't been able to do anything close since.

      WAYNE CADDELL How true! If you remember, the AFC dominated the 1970's led by Pittsburgh & Miami and only Dallas was able to seriously compete year after year. The 1980's we're all about SF, Washington, NYG & Chicago. Two things fuel such domination, defense (great defense) and strong QB play. Great coaching has a bit to do with it too!!!

      Good comment and you can certainly make that argument. I like Vince Lombardi. Belichek was 43 wins and 57 losses, got fired in Cleveland and was 5-11 with Drew Bledsoe before Brady took over.
      Vince Lombardi's first season with the Packers he went 7-5 with a team that had won on 1 game the previous season. Lombardi won 5 NFL championships in 7 years and never had a losing season. Lombardi's Packers won the first 2 superbowls. He left the Packers after the second Superbowl win.
      When Lombardi took over the Redskins he totally turned that program around immediately. Sadly Lombardi got sick and passed away at 57 so he didn't get a chance to coach longer.
      George Allen took the Redskin team that Lombardi largely built and went to the Superbowl losing to the Miami Dolphins in 72.
      Belichek is good but Lombardi won and won the right way. He was never accused of or fined for cheating etc.
      Lombardi was unbelievable but in the end lcan't expect people to be historians and every generation is allowed to have their favorites.

    Even though it's been ten years. I still say Lawrence Taylor could probably still scare offenses enough and play good defense. You just have to be careful of his shoulder and his knees though. He's getting fairly seasoned. LOL

    It's amazing how LT is the alpha even in the presence of the big tuna (Parcells is never #2 especially not to one of his players) and always gets the last word. LT is without a doubt the greatest defender in the history of football and went to the same college as Michael Jordan around the same time

    It’s a shame Coach Parcells left the Dallas Cowboys when he did. Coach Parcells would have taken that team to another Super Bowl. Jerry should have put him in charge of all football decisions and operations. Tony Romo would have entered his prime years sooner and BP would’ve drafted the right players to keep the team dominant for a long time.

    Lombardi was another coach who treated or coached everyone differently.
    Coaches that can't compete on a regular basis are usually phoneys. A player will always see this. Pete Carrol is an example of this.
