Hi, this is truly the best video I have seen so far about Singapore. It really reflects the truth about living in Singapore rather than others lamenting the high costs of living (by not comparing the world economic situation) n a boring place to live in. You can be considered local citizens now! Thanks for your compliment of Singapore n continue to enjoy your stay here!
I like to add in one more…. Although Singapore is small , it is very close to many countries; Less than one hour journey to Malaysia , Thailand and Indonesia. Four hours to HK and China. And our currency is very strong and our income is very high and employment rate is very high . When we are bore, we can travel to other countries for a short trip. We are very proud to call Singapore our home.
As a local, I cannot disagree with proposal made. I have worked with many expats in the past and they practically adore the practicality to use Singapore as a spring board to make short tours to all our neighbouring countries whenever they have the opportunities. Of course, typically, you have to take all the precautions to look after your own affairs when you are abroad. That 's expected from anyone. Enjoy!
As a Singaporean living in NZ for 8 months now, I cannot agree more about how lovely the little red dot is. I feel so spoilt by Singapore. On the other hand, I love NZ - the nature and scenery is perfect and loving the tempo here! Both are awesome countries on their own!
New Zealand is much bigger country so it has more jungles than Singapore but Singapore has 4 races unlike NZ but overall both countries are friendly towards each other* 🫱🫲
Yes, even as a Singaporean who’s travelled widely, I truly appreciate the sense of safety in my country at any time of day or night, especially for women.
Actually, most locals like it when the weather cools to 24C or lower occasionally. We’re actually not really used to it being too hot because many places are airconditioned. Enjoy your time here!
Hope to see many more years of anniversaries of you both in Singapore! Continue to enjoy and explore more about the local interesting places, cultures and food...hehe
Happy anniversary guys! And glad you showed one of our wild saltwater crocodiles at Sungei Buloh, something you won’t get in Wellington or Perth or New York..😆
Fabulous photography! Thank you…and what a happy couple you are! Subbed. The food…ah the food! It has evolved into a special culture and is totally very unique! I love seeing people congregating, eating and just celebrating life and friendships!
great to know that Safety is ur No.1. 🎉 Not many ppl appreciate this intangible thing when they visit or live here and usually complain about less important things like “too many cctv, no freedom, no this no that”. I have traveled close to 50 countries and 150 cities (live and worked in 2), and has not found one that i could feel safe walking the street at 2am in the morning.
You only have to worry about people watching you if you are doing something wrong. Be a good citizen and you are fine. Simple right. We have done plenty of travel too and always relax when the wheels touch down at Changi airport.
Thank you for posting this lovely video about Singapore. My siblings and I were supposed to go to Singapore for a 10-day vacation, but we had to change our minds and go to Malaysia instead. Unfortunately, the Aussie dollar was very weak against the Singapore dollar at the time and financially it will make better sense if we visited Malaysia as our dollar stretched further. But we did have a wonderful time in Malaysia. I hope to go back to Singapore Feb next year for the Chinese New Year and it is true, that Singapore is extremely clean and safe. The food and the mixed culture make it an interesting and exciting place to visit. May you both continue to explore and enjoy Singapore.
Happy to hear how much you’re enjoying living here ☺️ Correction: We (Singaporeans) actually enjoy the rare 24°C weather. In fact, the cooler the better! You may see us putting on our jackets but we love it! 😁 Thanks for sharing. It was fun to watch 😍

Enjoyed your video. Glad that you go for hawker food because so many ex pats spend all their time only in restaurants or cafes. And liking Mala is an achievement. Only thing is we all actually LOVE it when the temperature drops so we get a chance to put on our cardigans and scarves. Good to see u all enjoying yourselves and adapting well to SG. There’s also other outdoor activities such as canoeing through the mangroves swamp at Seletar River. Wonder have u learn to understand and speak Singlish, & the lingo for ordering local Kopi at hawker centres and coffee shops.
We need to do the kayak experience. We are terrible with our Singlish. We only know a few terms. Definitely not enough to come off as locals at the local kopi or hawker 🤣
Surprise to hear that you love the heat! Even we locals gripe about the humidity every now and then. By the way, MRT is Mass Rapid Transit and not Mass Rail Transport. The trains run every 2 minutes during peak hours and 4 minutes during off-peak hours.😊
Mass Rapid! Oh dear. 😅 Coming from a cold climate like NZ. The heat means everyday you can do something outdoors without having to check the weather forecast 🤣
Not all locals. I, for one, hated snow, winter and extreme summer. Most of us pick the "right" weather to go for holidays. Wait till you live there. I keep hearing people saying Tokyo weather is nice, like the mushi atsui summer never exist.
I was expecting to see ‘Gateway to SEA or Asia’ from expats. 😂Singapore is an aviation hub. Being in the centre does also make it easy to hop over to Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines etc for cheap. It’s so affordable to do a weekend trip over to any of the above countries.
30 degrees in Singapore is considered luxury because most of days, the dry and humid weather felt like 38 degrees Celcius. This is one of main reasons for shopping mall with full blast aircon always crowded.
Clean is subjective. Before troubles with terrorists, we used to have even more squeaky clean streets and outdoors. I'm a senior Sporean. I ought to know. There are less trash bins around. You'd know why.
Even as locals , the weather here can be unbearable some days. Thanks to connecting shelters and underground link ways, we get some nice shades and air con to cool us down.

Singapore has One of the best and most advanced healthcare system in asia. It's posing itself to be a preferred destination for medical needs in the Asia-Pacific region (rich people from Asia do not need to go to US for advanced treatments). Foreigner residents can participate in SG's universal healthcare, which is not free, but relatively inexpensive compared to private insurance (for inpatient hospitalization & surgeries). Non-Singaporeans/PRs do have to pay quite a bit more than "locals" because they do not get govt subsidies. And since Singapore is so small, the ambulance's trip to major hospitals do not take long 😂
NYC, London and Toronto have way more diversity in food than Singapore. You can't get good Caribbean, Latin American, Mexican, African, Soul Food, Texas BBQ, Pizza etc in Singapore whereas in NYC, London and Toronto you can get literally everything from every continent in the world simply because of the cultural diversity of these 3 cities. My favorite food in the world is Trini cuisine like Roti, Doubles, Aloo Pie etc and you can't get that anywhere in Singapore. The food quality in Singapore is good, but definitely heavily leaning towards Asian food.
I think thats normal though. I have never been to NYC but it won't have the authentic Asian food experiences that you get here just because it is so far away. The cuisine you mentioned is mostly in the America's which you will naturally find more of in that part of the world.
@@ACoupleOfKiwis Well you can get Trini food in London, which is far from Trinidad. Plus sone of the best Asian food in NYC and California is on par or better than Asian food even in Asia. Don't forget that there are 30 million Asians in the USA, many of whom are good cooks and they all demand good Asian food. The US can import the ingredients from Asia no problem. Some of the best omakase sushi restaurants in NYC get fresh shipments of fish from Japan everyday. Whereas in Singapore, it's just not diverse enough to have everything cities like NYC, LA and London have. Yes there is Western and Asian food there but a lot is missing - Portuguese, Jamaican, Brazilian BBQ, American fast food brands etc. I am Asian American born and raised in NYC but have worked all over Asia from Singapore to Hong Kong and I definitely missed a lot of food from back home, including good Asian food. SriPraPhai in NYC for example is still better than any Thai food I've had in Thailand despite going to Thailand a lot when I lived in Asia.
Having done my teaching degree with you Matt, how easy was it for you to get work in Singapore? What are the pay comparisons? What are schools like for expat kids? What does a school day look like? Have you found it easy to get to know people in Singapore? Can you buy a house? What are the price comparison's compared to NZ? Or buy a condo? Would love to know (if you haven't already done it) comparisons between NZ and Singapore.

What you do not tell whoever is reading your vlog that Singapore is a rich man's country. The ordinary person does not order groceries to be delivered. You may have lots of money to live in Singapore compared to New Zealand. Today 2 million people who moved to Singapore are either expatriates or in the upper income group
Agree. But that is our audience. Expats and people thinking of moving to Singapore. We are incredibly grateful for the opportunities we have had living in SG.
I think it really depends. Since COVID, I know of many locals who have turned to food and grocery delivery sometimes and many companies now have more decent subscription plans. Also, they did mention food delivery is something they like to do once in a while. And they mentioned them enjoying hawker food and its affordable prices.
