Your last shocker shocks me too! im a Singaporean and I dont pick my nose in a public place! My family and friends have never done that before too. Are you sure the person your wife seen picking his or her nose is a Singaporean?
I’m not positive, but we saw them doing it in the Tekka Hawker Center in Little India mostly - it’s possible they were tourists, because I suppose it’s impossible to know if someone is Singaporean unless I ask or get their ID 😅
@@WanderlustWellmanI see. If it was indian she saw, very likely they are indian nationals working here. Once in blue moon I also saw people digging noses publicly. But I have not seen it for a long while, they probably have assimilated into the culture. Once in a while I am annoyed with people cutting their nails in buses and bus stops too. Welcome to Singapore and i hope you enjoyed yourself. I am a Singapore born Singaporean and thanks for describing and introducing Singapore. I see that many have commented on your nose picking part and i also would like to add on a little bit. Singapore is a small island nation that comprises of many races and cultures. Predominantly, of the Chinese, Malay and Indian origin and others. Singapore being Singapore, it attracts not only tourists but workers and talents from around the world. We do have an extensive numbers of Chinese descent that are not born here and they do not necessarily come from China, they could be from Indonesia or Malaysia or even from Europe or America. Similarly, the Indians may not necessarily be a Singaporean Indian but an Indian from India, Malaysia or other parts of the world. For the Malays, most of them are tanned skin just like any South East Asian origin and Singapore is in the middle of S.E.A. And we do have lots workers from and around South East Asia as well. I'm not defending the popular comments in here if the ‘act’ is not from a Singaporean or otherwise. All I'm saying is who knows?! Unless you really ask the ‘perpetrator’ for their ID. As an example, if you go to Esplanade on the weekends, especially on Sunday, you may encounter a crowd of people around the area and it seems like a gathering of picnikers, I can assure you they are definitely not Singaporean and they are not tourists either. But outsiders may think…ahh this is what Singaporean do or go on the weekends. Thanks anyways for the video of our tiny Singapore, a hub of many things that makes it prosper and progress as it is and I end with ‘Majulah Singapura’. 🎉🎉🎉
Actually, we went to Kuala Lumpur right after Singapore! I released my first Malaysia video yesterday, and I will make a video on Kuala Lumpur next. Hope you check it out 😁
The 6 points were great but point number 7 is a shocker to me haha! It probably happens but it is rare as far as Singapore culture goes. It could have been better if the producer asked around a bit. It sort of add a blemish to an otherwise beautiful video. But hey, no worries dude. 6/7 is a pretty good score card. If i may add, #7 would be the government - it is one of the least corrupt in the world.
Population of Singapore includes foreign workers etc. The actual numbers of local is only 2mil, approximately 1 genuine Singaporean in every 3.5 people you meet. We don’t dig our noses, the foreign workers from China does!
Interesting statistic, and I guess it's hard to say who picks their noses out in public - I didn't exactly check their passports after noticing them haha
As a Singaporean, theres a lot of things we could learn from the West and vice versa. A nice balance is what we should aim for. And yes, SG is hot AF, not so much the temperature, but its the damn humanity.
Haha yeah the humidity is pretty unreal, but I still enjoyed it to be honest! And there are many things to learn from all cultures, that's what makes the world such an interesting place :)
@@WanderlustWellman Agreed, I think at some point if people can afford it, they should travel. There's so much to see and do out there. It would such a waste to not travel.
You know all those petty laws and penalties we have? Fines for not flushing the toilet. Fines for littering/spitting/not returning your tray after eating at hawker centres? If the authorities sees this video, there will soon be a law against picking noses in public! Why? Because Singapore progressed from Third World to First in ONE generation! That means people who grew up with bucket toilets, spitting, littering, (unhygienic) street hawkers, and picking their noses (in the 1960s), found themselves (after just ONE generation - about 25 years) in the first world with flushing toilets, clean streets, sanitary hawker centres, and tourists who notice them picking their noses in public! After this, we will crackdown on people sticking inhalers in their noses and walking around like it is a fashion accessory. Those petty/silly laws were intended to drag the populi into the first world, and act like citizens of the first world. But seriously, I like the honesty in this video, and your willingness to share the last shocker. As a Singaporean, I am amused, embarrassed, and also a little defensive (hence the above). But it is a fair observation. But I hope you take my "defence"/explanation of our unabashed practice in the spirit it was given - a (hopefully) objective explanation of a people thrown into modernity, but having grown up in poverty, adversity, and scarcity. At least, we (most of us) don't spit openly in public anymore...? And we flush the toilet after use! (I hope!)
U missed that that the religious buildings are actually situated side by side. Literally. Take Chinatown for example, u get the Hindu temple and mosque side by side, and the Buddhist temple 1 block after.
After reflecting, maybe it is more just Islamic culture than Middle Eastern - the neighborhood is nicknamed the "Arab Quarters", but I have never been to the Middle East so it's hard for me to say!
Thts new. It does happened anywhere in the world bt not to the extend tht everyone of us is doing it here. Only those uncivilised few will do it in the open.
There are lot of things that shocked me in America.Rude people, homeless ,violence ,going into store and just take whatever they wanted and get away with it, and homeless shit on pavement 🙄🙄I take looking at nose picking over homeless shit on pavement 🙄🙄
The way you pronounced bee hoon mee is quite accurate ! Yes i am one of those people who dig my nose but always in a fast and discreet manner ...and so i thought 😅
Please get your facts on your last observation. We are culture here in Singapore and that behaviour is highly committed by minimal workers hired from aboard. At least we don't carry guns or chew like cows constantly with chew gums as they do in the states!
Singapore is green and clean 🌴🌳🌿🌾🌱🪴 and hot spot for migratory birds from the far north during wintry months. Nose-picking is universal culture, your partner is simply trying to find bone in an egg. 4-day stay gives only superficial impressions and is grossly insuffucient for you to really get to know Singapore and Singaporeans.
Thanks for the comment, I agree that you can't dive incredibly deep into a place and its cultural in 4 days - these were only our impressions and experiences, and we definitely want to visit Singapore again to dive in deeper!
I promise I don't assume everyone does it, but my wife noticed a few people do it over our 3 days in Singapore in several different areas with many locals such as hawker centers - just speaking on our own experiences!
While there are 4 major religions in Singapore, there are actually more. During officer cadets' commissioning parades, there were always 7 priests from 7 religions to blessed the newly minted officers. I don't know whether there are more now. On the affordability of Singapore, just think of how your media have misinformed you. It is not cheap, but prices are fair by our income level.
Yeah I don't mean to say it's "cheap", but I had the impression it was going to be one of the more expensive countries I've visited. For example, I've eaten meals at markets in South America that were similar prices to Hawker Centres in Singapore. Interesting to learn about the religious history from you!
@@WanderlustWellman Don't worry about your use of "cheap". I know what you meant. Western free media have been misinforming the Western hemisphere about Singapore being the "most expensive" city/country. It is the most expensive because, westerners expect to still have ingredients not common in Asians' diet and the car. For basic items, Singapore is in fact it is cheaper than most, if not all, industrialised European countries and Japan too. In absolute terms, we are no doubt the most expensive country in Southeast Asia. But if you compare the after-tax salary-to-price ratio of goods, Singapore workers' purchasing power is higher than regional counterparts in their own countries.
Duuuude... that nose-pickin' one though First time I've heard of this! Born and bred here since '64. Methinks you must've bumped into some elderly folk in Chinatown or foreigners, or maybe the ocassional uncouthed individual who are guilty of this LOL
I rarely see Singaporeans picking their nose although I often see foreigners picking their nose. At least 40% of the people out there are not Singaporean.
I’m Singaporean & I even judge my husband for picking his nose INSIDE the car lol. 😒 thanks for making the video so he will know he could be one of those contributing to such impression given to tourists on behalf of all Singaporeans. 🫤
this is so true! I rmbr attending a Maroon 5 concert last year in Nov 2022 and there were westerners in front of me and another one to my left. They werent related but somehow they strike a convo. One asked the other “youre not going back home for christmas?” And the lady replied “NO!!! i’d rather stay in SG because of the heat than enduring the cold!!!” 😂😂 i was so shook by that convo hahahah
When I went to the US I was shocked by the poverty. Homeless people & drug addicts everywhere, dirty streets, dirty & unreliable public transports.. It really looks like a 3rd world country!
I don't blame you, it really is a massive problem here - American cities for the most part are all like this. I would rather visit Singapore any day of the week!
Precisely, if Singaporeans are well known for picking nose i bet this will not be the only youtube video talking on this. Let’s not forget the fact that 1/3 of the population here are foreigners…
@jeny7177: Singapore has 4 official languages. We do learn some of them as mother tongues in school though. The National language is Malay and the working language is English.
You just come here few days you know nothing. SINGAPORE is a lawful country. Not like a big country with no law they can steal and have daylight robbery and go supermarket without paying as long belong 800 dollars and still get away scot-free. You should do a video about this and share with us .
I might not be an expert on Singapore, but I'm not claiming to be one - I mostly came to learn about the country as a tourist firsthand through my experiences. I do love how crime in Singapore isn't prevalent like how it is in America, and the safety is one of my favorite things about it.
Watch out for those people, especially men who have very long finger nails on their pinky. They will dig nose and ears all day. It's mainly the ah beings and ah seng 😆😆😆
Every Singaporean here needs to chill, I won’t be so quick to criticise the immigrants only. In my opinion, it’s not common that you’ll catch a sensible Singaporean engaging in such openly. Cos nose picking is a deviant behaviour on the same level as farting loudly in public. Those who do it let them enjoy it, to their hearts’ content, they clearly don’t give a care. Let me tell you, I kno..it’s ducking disgusting!!! So, always carry wet wipes and sanitizer on you.
There are no racial implications, I don’t have any videos of people picking their nose so I chose two random free stock videos on the internet to use. Sorry that it offended you
There are many foreigners and tourists in Sg. The people that you encountered may or may not be Singaporeans, especially those at tourist attractions.
That’s very possible, good point! 👍
I went to many countries, even the states, people picked their noses too. Bruh, it’s like everywhere.
Those who openly pick noses are a minority. The rest who feel the need to pick, normally have the social etiquette to do it privately.

Thank you so much, we love this country! :)
It is useful to bring a spare T shirt to change and a small, wet towel in plastic bag to wipe when you are out.
Good advice! I just accepted that I would be hot and sweaty 😅
@@WanderlustWellman , Rinse the towel under the cold tap water when you visit the toilets. Wiping with the cold towel will refresh you.
number 8 is Safety????
I could definitely have included safety, and cleanliness onto this list! Those aspects impressed us too
Hi sir . Great video and great explanation . 👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏🥰 thanks for sharing .
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
Singapore is high living cost country life if u live...as tourist u never fill the heat.......😊
Interesting point!
The underground train/ MRT are just horizontal lift .
Oh really?
8:10 best moment of the video. I was wondering where she was. I didnt know she is already your wife. So nice
Haha she was going to be in the video speaking about her experience, but she decided not to. I’m glad she has a fan!
@@WanderlustWellman it was both sweet and bitter at the same time. All the nice ladies so fast became wives
Thank you for the comment, you bring up many interesting points! I loved visiting Singapore and hope to return again one day
I bet the nose pickers he saw were Chinese.
Hi, thank you for visiting Singapore and I am happy you had a great time here. 🎉❤ Cheers. 🎉
Hello, thank you so much - we had an unbelievable time in your country!
You should visit Kuala Lumpur n then Putra Jaya in Malaysia as well...
Actually, we went to Kuala Lumpur right after Singapore! I released my first Malaysia video yesterday, and I will make a video on Kuala Lumpur next. Hope you check it out 😁
Hello,
Great video !
I am planning to visit Singapore and stay in Clarke Quay.
What do you think about this area ?
Thank you very much.
Hello, thank you so much! I don't know too much about that area unfortunately. I hope you have a great visit!
I can't say you should be "shocked" by the first 6 shocks. Rightfully you should be shocked only by the last actual shock.
I guess for me there can be different levels of feeling shocked, and each of these things was a shock/surprise to me!
I LOVE your video, I had just subscribed to your channel and like your video. I will keep support your channel.
Thank you so much, I'm very happy to hear it. I appreciate the support immensely :)
I don’t see that everday peoples picking nose..😂 you guys are lucky..
Haha that's one way of putting it!
He should hv gone to buy 4D or Toto on that day!
Welcome to Singapore
Thank you, I couldn’t have had a better experience in your country 😁🇸🇬
The 6 points were great but point number 7 is a shocker to me haha! It probably happens but it is rare as far as Singapore culture goes. It could have been better if the producer asked around a bit. It sort of add a blemish to an otherwise beautiful video. But hey, no worries dude. 6/7 is a pretty good score card. If i may add, #7 would be the government - it is one of the least corrupt in the world.
Appreciate the comment my friend, I could have definitely added many more positive things (government, cleanliness, safety, etc.).
Your positive vibe is contagious. Thank you!
You mean the highest paid govt in the world. And even that failed to eliminate corruption
Y u complaining about humidity? I’m an sg and I’m wearing THICK, LONG SLEEVED clothing out
Not complaining to be honest, it was just a shock! I like the heat, especially more than my wife haha
I thought the heat was normal as a Singaporean
I guess most places do have very hot times of the year, but I’ve never felt heat and humidity to that extent so early in the day!
Felt the humidity even in the cool mornin' & in the shade ?
WHERE do U come from ?
Newfoundland *?* Alaska *?* 😅
Haha I come from Michigan in the USA!
Very nice upload my friend. Greetings from Germany.
Thank you!
Are you for REAL?
Learn from the WEST.
What HUMANITY, you on about?
Do you want Singapore to turn into a
IMMORAL CESSPIT?
learn from the west ?? maybe america start banning guns and learn from sg
Excellent
Thank you so much 😀
You know all those petty laws and penalties we have?
(I hope!)
Thanks for the comment, you bring up many interesting and insightful things that help shape my perspective on Singapore!
U missed that that the religious buildings are actually situated side by side. Literally.
Take Chinatown for example, u get the Hindu temple and mosque side by side, and the Buddhist temple 1 block after.
That's a good point!
Singapore do have tons of foreigners; From non English-speaking China nationals to Indians labourer working here...
Ah I see, many people have said similar things
When you said middle east, did you mean middle eastern culture or just islam? I didn't know there's middle eastern culture in Singapore
After reflecting, maybe it is more just Islamic culture than Middle Eastern - the neighborhood is nicknamed the "Arab Quarters", but I have never been to the Middle East so it's hard for me to say!
You should come to Taiwan next time, you will experience same things or better, looking forward to your vedio : )
Thanks for the suggestion, we might visit Taiwan next year!
🤔Those people u see in singapore picking nose may not be a singaporen. As here we have too many foreigners working here. 🙄🤨😨😵
Ah I see, good to keep in mind!
The high price is the rental of room to stay 😅
True, that can sometimes be expensive!
Thts new. It does happened anywhere in the world bt not to the extend tht everyone of us is doing it here. Only those uncivilised few will do it in the open.
I see, that makes sense
There are lot of things that shocked me in America.Rude people, homeless ,violence ,going into store and just take whatever they wanted and get away with it, and homeless shit on pavement 🙄🙄I take looking at nose picking over homeless shit on pavement 🙄🙄
Yes , 100%
Same here, Singapore blows American cities out of the water in terms of safety, cleanliness, public transportation, and many other things.
The way you pronounced bee hoon mee is quite accurate ! Yes i am one of those people who dig my nose but always in a fast and discreet manner ...and so i thought 😅
Haha thank you, I try my best to stay foreign words correctly!
Please get your facts on your last observation. We are culture here in Singapore and that behaviour is highly committed by minimal workers hired from aboard. At least we don't carry guns or chew like cows constantly with chew gums as they do in the states!
I certainly don't have facts on the last observation besides our own experience, and yes Americans definitely have some negative traits too!
That's a London train!
Yeah, I just used some stock footage for the train because I didn’t have any
You know why Singaporeans hate 9-5 work shift? Cause its the same timing as the sun when its heats officially started and ended :)
Ohh so you're saying Singaporeans like to be outside in the heat? Interesting...
@@WanderlustWellman Whether being inside a building or outside.. The sun still hits you like you at a beach. Haha
@@briancheong3319 haha that’s a good way of putting it!
Blames the foreigners for all faults. Take the credit for all positives. Welcome to Tonny's Karenland.
You shd include the zoo too
Never been to the zoo, typically I don't support zoos due to the treatment of the animals
@@WanderlustWellman You and your wife are welcome to revisit Singapore anyime for cultural immersion. See you guys soon 🌻 🇸🇬
You saw one or two people picking their nose in public and a assume the all Singaporean does that. 🙄
I promise I don't assume everyone does it, but my wife noticed a few people do it over our 3 days in Singapore in several different areas with many locals such as hawker centers - just speaking on our own experiences!
Because it is humid, i guessed boggy gets formed up easily therefore i guessed it is an immediate response for that uncomfortness.
@@windsorus ahh makes sense!
hi i am singaporean
Hello, welcome to my channel! 😁
# 8 No chewing gum
What’s wrong with picking our nose? It’s a joy! haha.. jkjk.. u sure u saw us doing it in public? Or maybe it’s just Phua Chu Kang on tv???
Haha to each their own! And we saw several people doing it in the Tikka Centre
no wonder.. I have been living here for 25 yrs, only been to tekka mkt 1 time
Sorry for letting you caught our folks picking their nose in the public
Hahah no problem, it really wasn’t that big of a deal
@@WanderlustWellman but you will get used to is once you guys discover Asia 😂
@@lkkben haha good to know! We plan on traveling throughout Asia a lot more 👍
@@WanderlustWellman have fun! And remember to try out all the different local cuisines!
He won't say its cheap if he eat at restaurant instead of hawker centre
I'm Singaporean, proud of our nose-picking heritage, gold ain't gonna mine itself
Haha you're the first person to go along with #7, funny way of putting it!
Add a 7a: "consuming ur own booger after picking in e public..."
Haha yikes!
Duuuude... that nose-pickin' one though First time I've heard of this!
Interesting point, because Singapore is diverse it's hard for me to maybe tell who is a local and who is a foreigner
Digging nose definitely not culture of Singapore. Your many times seeing them likely not locals.
Good to know, thanks!
oh but did you get to see people walking/hanging around with a vicks inhaler jammed up a nostril as if showing off to everyone "look, no hands!”
I did not unfortunately
I’m Singaporean & I even judge my husband for picking his nose INSIDE the car lol. 😒 thanks for making the video so he will know he could be one of those contributing to such impression given to tourists on behalf of all Singaporeans. 🫤
Haha my wife is the same - and thanks for checking out the video, just speaking on my own experiences!
I love digging my nose. I kept my last finger nails for digging
Haha you do you, I just hope you clean your hands before shaking someone's hand!
If the climate of Singapore is better, the British will migrated over like Australia and New Zealand. They will not gave it to the Singaporean.
That's possible
this is so true!
The National Language is Malay tho.
Good to know!
Well I live in Spore for 22 years and legit never once see people picking nose in public..🤔
Maybe I was just lucky then - or probably unlucky haha 😅
Precisely, if Singaporeans are well known for picking nose i bet this will not be the only youtube video talking on this. Let’s not forget the fact that 1/3 of the population here are foreigners…
English is official language. The rest is known as mother tongue
Is that the case? Either way, it's still impressive that many languages are recognized and understood within the country
Malay,English,Chinese and Tamil are official and equal languages in S'pore.
Singapore national language is still malay... its just we use a common language call english
@@yilongd that makes sense!
@jeny7177: Singapore has 4 official languages. We do learn some of them as mother tongues in school though. The National language is Malay and the working language is English.
Last time is less hot.
I saw japanese and american pick their nose.
I've seen it before to, I guess people from all parts of the world do it
You just come here few days you know nothing.
Picking the nose is just gross. As a Singaporean, I can vouch that that is not a normal occurrence and I’d be just as turned off and surprised as you.
Okay, well thanks for letting me know!
Picking of nose? Hmm....interesting, as long as they don't pick and put into their mouth I am cool with it 🤣🤣
Hahaha well I agree with you there!
Hahaaaa when someone picks their nose in front of me, i'll tell them to stop. And they will, out of embarassment.
Haha makes sense, but some people might not care and continue to do it anyway (at least in the USA)
But we don't have gun issues
Very true!
Throw a pebble and chances are you hit a foreigner.
Haha just don't throw it in my direction!
Watch out for those people, especially men who have very long finger nails on their pinky. They will dig nose and ears all day. It's mainly the ah beings and ah seng 😆😆😆
Haha ok, thanks for the tip!
Wait until you visit China....the first tier cities is Singapore ×10 or 20 !
I hope to visit China in the near future!
Haha love this comment!
Why did you purposely post a Black and a Chinese guy showing them picking their nose? I find it very racial offensive and am disgusted.
There are no racial implications, I don’t have any videos of people picking their nose so I chose two random free stock videos on the internet to use. Sorry that it offended you
