  • Portugal is filled with so many amazing places to travel and visit, one of which is The Algarve. Filled with so many different towns, all of which offer something a bit different, it's easy to find your favorite destination to vacation while in Portugal. Being a popular summer location, the Algarve can be fun and active during these warm months, but also equally amazing year-round. With the wonderful winter climate filled with sunshine most days of the year, we continue to see why people choose the Algarve Portugal as a place to holiday and vacation year-round.
    In this video, we explore the small fishing village of Ferragudo and Portimao, both of which are on the west end of the Algarve. We found that Portimao has a wonderful boardwalk lining the river with many bars, cafes, and fantastic views across the river to Ferragudo. After exploring Portimao we walked over to Ferragudo and loved how quaint this small fishing village was. In Ferragudo, there are many restaurants to choose from and if you like seafood, you can watch the fresh catch from the day be grilled right in front of you. There is also plenty of cute stores to walk through and do some shopping, buying some local goods

    Portimao and Ferragudo are sometimes over looked when people visit the Algarve. Let us know in the comments below - have you visited either of these towns or do you plan to when you come to the Algarve?

      Portimao is hugely popular. Not sure where you got your information.

    When we started our full time travel in 2020, Ferragudo was our first destination! We ended up spending 5 months there and where we stayed we had a beautiful view of the castle, which by the way is a private residence. We loved walking down to the square in the mornings and having a pastel da nata and a portuguese coffee. Then we would hike the cliffs which had the most amazing views of the ocean! Afternoons were spent at one of the beach bars resting with a cool one in our hands. In Portimao you were just steps away from the sardine museum! This area is rich in history regarding the sardine industry. The red brick chimineys are all that's left and are now home to the abundant population of Storks. So glad you finally found the perfect hat!

      Hey guys! Love your channel on Italy, we will be checking it out for sure. We plan an Italian tour within the next three years.
      Minus the three-plus hour wait for the train, we had a great day exploring Ferragudo and Portimao. It is nice to know the castle is private and we didn't just miss the entrance. Apparently, we did miss the sardine museum. 🙄 Thanks for watching!!
      Cheers!!!🍻

    I was wondering if you guys ever make friends on your travels through all these counties? It can be a little lonely if you are only hanging out with each other all the time. Just curious since I know you guys have spent some time in the Algarve before.

      We have made some friends! We have met some people that follow us here on RUclips that is in the area. We have also met other vloggers and locals as well. We welcome a chance to have a beer and meet new people. Great question!!

    Portugal and southern Spain are on my list. Like you being in one place could be limiting. However, you are spending lots on travelling and setting up, even if you use Airbnb. Be good to know how much your costs would be including travelling around

    Nice area! Good for you getting all those steps in too! Have you guys rented a car yet since you've been gone? If so, is it a simple process? I'm aware of getting an international permit before leaving the states, but I've looked at some car rentals online & some require a huge deposit! Glad you finally got your beer...and, your hat!

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  2 года назад +1

      We have not rented a car yet, not only is it expensive but the gas is crazy-expensive. We will be covering that in our cost of living video coming up in a couple of weeks.
      Cheers!!!🍻

      Uber is a good option or bolt. Much cheaper than hiring a car which is really expensive. Gas (petrol) is about twice the price in Portugal than the US

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  2 года назад

      We would say if you had the means renting a car would be a great option. So many places west of Lagos to explore but you need to take the bus and be on a schedule. The freedom of a car would be nice.

      @@BrianandCarrie my husband & I love to go on road trips, but with the price of gas here in the states, we are being very selective as to where we go. He has this grand idea that we can just rent a car there and travel across countries to explore. Seems those days are gone, at least right now! Oh well, thanks for the advice/info, we are still a few yrs out, so hoping things change for the better!

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  2 года назад +1

      Things will change at some point. Right? When they do you can absolutely rent a car and drive from country to country. That would be amazing!! Even better in a small motor home!!

      The challenge in "understanding" a community is one needs to really spend time there, meet locals and long-time expats. As they say, "you can't judge a book by its cover."

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  10 месяцев назад

      We spent two months in the Algarve and had a fantastic time meeting locals and expats. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.

    • @gregorydunkling5067
      @gregorydunkling5067 10 месяцев назад

      We are here for 6-weeks, based in Tavira. Two years ago we spent a week in Lagos. However, driving from town to town, and city to city there is so much to see and experience here. It's fine to get an initial "take" on a community through day visits, but I've found one can't get a very good feel for a place unless one stays there for a period of time. Yes, few of us have the flexibility to do that.
      Not meant as a criticism, simply an observation.
      It's sort of the equivalent of how to select a college. A day campus visit hardly gives an accurate assessment of the place.
      So how can people watch RUclips videos, make quick forays into a place, then engage with Expats living in a location to figure out where they might want to live (even for a few months)?
