    Thank you. 💐I have learned how to draw the arch in 2D, what I'm struggling with is how you draw the other side of the arch as you look through it. Somehow that disappearing line at the top always looks wrong and I keep looking for a formula or technique to get it correct.

  • @2112Dahlia

    wonderful! it helps so much! This could be applied to a tea cup rim for example also? I alway struggle with that. I like to paint in watercolor but although I've wanted to paint a beautiful tea cup, the drawing of the tea cup rim always comes out looking wrong so I've stayed away from it. Thank you!

    Hello Lijn!
    Thak you very much for the beautiful work, just keep it up like that please!
    I have some notes:
    1- Look at the thickness of the wall of the door "for booth": The arch disappear from the left, that's okey but why the door not disappear from left also? "you have wrong perspective door center point" you have to see almost "half the door".
    2- You did not draw right square perspective dimensions and that's why the square looks like rectangle.
    I'll give yo a hint! To get the logical and realistic square perspective you need the third vanishing point to have the right dimensions up to the vision's angle "by the third v. point."
    3- There is one othere thing but I'm very sorry, you have to find out because not easy to me to explain by text only.

    • @LinekeLijn
      @LinekeLijn  7 лет назад

      Hi Imad,
      Thank you so much for your compliment and feedback.
      I was aware of the thirth dissapearing point but had no room to show ^.^ Furthermore it is mostly drawn on sight and not very mathematic but you are totally right!

    Very helpful, but how do I determine the ground line direction if the vanishing points to the left are not visible?

    • @LinekeLijn
      @LinekeLijn  7 лет назад

      Thank you King! and I determined it by placing that second one way beside my drawing paper (so kind of in my mind) and then tried to direct those lines that way.

    • @tarantulady
      @tarantulady 7 лет назад +2

      One thing you can do is tape down your page with masking tape, then tape a paper to the left and one to the right. Then you can mark your vanishing points if they are off the paper. You can use crappy newspaper or old cardboard if you want to be better for the environment. I use a drawing board that stands on the desk, and this is wide enough to hold many sheets side by side, but you can tape it all to any smooth surface like a table (a drafting table is better for your neck and prevents skewing). Also, you can put a sheet below, if you are doing 3 point perspective. This allows the vanishing points to be far away enough that your drawing does not have warping (I think it is called Cone of Focus).

    • @LinekeLijn
      @LinekeLijn  7 лет назад

      These are very helpful tips King! We did this at the academie to get the feel and later on we had to do it by mind. But this is the best start to get the correct angles.
      Thank you so much for sharing!

    So, is the ratio always going to be 2:1?

    • @LinekeLijn
      @LinekeLijn  7 лет назад +1

      Not always William, this is depending on the angle of witch you are watching from. So if you where closer to the building this could also be 3:1 and so on.

    Brilliant video, I cant believe I'm watching it two years late!
    Lineke, if you are drawing en plein air, say sitting in front of a church, on a busy road, lots of traffic, lots of other buildings, lots of trees...how do you determine the vanishing point in this busy environment? I really struggle with drawing from life, deciding how many vanishing points there are, and where they are.

      Thank you for this big compliment Safi! ^^
      And actually, you had best practice first by making pictures and start searching for the vanishing points, sitting on a bench or at home. Then, later on, you will soon recognise your points while being outside.
      Do pick a spot as less busy as possible though!
      Good luck with your art studies ;)

    As the arch moves away from you to the vanishing point how do you know how wide to make each successive thinner arch?

      Good question and I do this by observation and then look for the dissapearing point to dicide the angle. Hope this is helpful for you Bear ;)

      This is a great video. There is a way to determine the width of receding objects. See here: www.craftsy.com/art/article/dividing-space-in-perspective-tutorial/
